July 28, 20231 yr This could end up being my favourite project from her? When she gets it, she gets it. She just excels at exploring different pop/pop-adjacent soundscapes. Overall I find the production throughout to be a bit of a mess & quite clunky. Some songs it works but then others I'm not so sure it gels well enough. Surprised by this — I think the production is the strongest element over the course of the entire album. The production really elevates some of the songs that maybe wouldn't seem as fully formed without it.
July 28, 20231 yr I can confidently say after one listen that it's so much better than its counterpart, very experimental for the most part but an interesting listen. Of course 'Psychedelic Switch' is the big pop moment and I am loving it. Highlights after one listen: Kamikaze Kollage (I'm imagining listening to this relaxing by the pool already) Shadow (a vibe) Psychedelic Switch 🕺 So Right Stadium Love (love the big, bold drums)
July 28, 20231 yr This is a gem of an album, I love it so much more than The Loneliest Time and I enjoyed that quite a bit. Psychedlic Switch would be a giant hit for so many of the major pop artists, an effortless radio smash that inveitably won't be one. Some very intriguing production on here, for example on Put It To Rest, the percussion is immaculate. Aeroplane is good fun too and very different for her. I agree with most of the highlights mentioned above otherwise - a stellar collection that plays with melody a bit but still packs the big choruses.
July 29, 20231 yr Aaaah this is exactly what I've been hoping for from Carly for a while now! This is the album I expected to come after Western Wind, I love how she's continually amped up the weirdness with every release since Emotion. Based on just one listen my big standouts are Stadium Love, Anything To Be With You, Shadow and So Right.
August 7, 20231 yr I have finally got around to giving The Loveliest Time a full listen! I really wanted to give it my full and undivided attention and that’s been difficult for me to achieve recently. It was worth the wait! On first listen I feel confident in saying that this is her strongest project since Emotion! :o Which is high praise from me because I was obsessed with each and every album and Side B she’s released over the years. She never misses for me and it thrills me that she’s somehow still growing as an artist after all these years. I feel like “the Carly sound” has really been elevated in this new album. I understand the “experimental” comments I’ve been seeing. It’s not that she’s veered away from the pop she excels at, but she’s made some bold and interesting choices with production and melodies so that some of these songs aren’t just “standard Carly”. I’m not quite sure how to explain this but I feel like she has a knack for phrasing words in really interesting ways melodically. On my next listen I’ll have to pick out the moments which made me think this way. Carly just completely gets it, doesn’t she? Stand outs… Psychedelic Switch certainly warranted the hype :cheeseblock: There’s a very pleasing amount of bops, but it has to be said, Kollage is really stunning. Very vulnerable.
August 9, 20231 yr @1687906381897031680  A couple of days ago, Carly's gig at The Rooftop at Pier 17 had to be cut short because of thunderstorms: @1688713602201530368 Which prompted her to make very quick rearrangements rather than outright cancel: @1688729410709372928 At the Rockwood Music Hall she did three separate sets, with different groups of fans for different sets (because of the small capacity) https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/carly-rae-je...y-43a45f0f.html @1688786250491142144 She's just the best  Album is on repeat! I think it's easier for me to say which songs aren't my favourites rather than list the favourites: not too enamoured with Aeroplanes or Weekend Love. Shadow is emerging as a big favourite for me too! The "City to city, heartbeat to heartbeat, body to body / you got me, you got me" part of the chorus. I feel like Psychedelic Switch is like a long lost Kylie Minogue track, maybe circa Fever... I just love it!
