S Club to release first single in two decades in tribute to late bandmate Paul Cattermole

S Club are releasing their first single in 20 years in tribute to late bandmate Paul Cattermole.

I can reveal they will thrill fans by releasing new song These Are The Days this week, after being left devastated when Paul died suddenly of heart issues aged 46 in April.

The music video will show his bandmates Rachel Stevens, Jo O’Meara, Bradley McIntosh, Jon Lee and Tina Barrett emotionally reminiscing about Paul with a series of photos and clips.

A source said: “It didn’t look like S Club were ever going to make music again but Paul’s tragic passing has brought them closer than ever. They have bonded in their grief.

“The single has been written by the same team who were behind the majority of their No1s.

“It is a beautiful slice of nostalgia and fans will instantly recognise it as S Club.

“It sounds like a classic which will slot right in with their old tunes.

“It is about looking back at what an amazing man Paul was and the video was extremely emotional for them all.

“It celebrates his life and the amazing career S Club have had.”

They have signed a global partnership with Universal Music UK to put out the song, which will be released on Wednesday.

The group are now a five-piece after Hannah Spearritt’s decision to leave weeks after Paul’s death.

They announced their 25th anniversary reunion in The Sun in February and revealed they would be heading out on a nationwide tour.

That has now almost sold out and will go ahead in October under the new title The Good Times Tour — named after one of the tracks on which Paul had lead vocals.

The band were together from 1998 to 2003, selling more than ten million albums, with all 11 of their singles going Top Five.

Across their four studio albums they had four No1 singles with Bring It All Back, Never Had A Dream Come True, Don’t Stop Movin’ and Have You Ever.

Following Paul’s death, Hannah — who dated him from 2001 to 2006 — said: “It’s still so raw and I have these moments where I don’t quite believe that it’s real.

“I still can’t believe I will never see him again.

“It’s all the more tragic because he was looking forward to the tour the most out of all of us.

“He just wanted to have fun and enjoy it.”

S Club, it’s good to have you back.

Written by Simon Ellis and Johanne Ellis! Simon of course was the mastermind behind Don't Stop Movin' and Never Had a Dream Come True among others!

Oh wow this is so exciting, I cannot wait to hear.

Lovely to hear we’re getting a tribute for Paul.

I also love the photo of the 5 of them, they still look good as a 5 and it doesn’t look as weird/odd as I thought it potentially could have. They all look great.

Apparently it's a cover of this Now United song (aka Simon Fuller's latest band). Not going to listen (for extra excitement and anctipation for Wednesday!) but seen people say they can already hear who will sing which parts so sounds like it's a good fit.

Hmmm if it is a cover of that song and they are painting it as a song written and recorded in tribute of Paul, which that article was dangerously close to doing, it puts me off the whole thing. I'll await official news from the group before making that judgement though, fair enough if it is just the video.

They look great in the photo, feels a bit weird seeing them as a five-piece. I know they were also 3/4 pieces at different points but I've never followed any of those line ups, they have always been 6 or 7 to me.

I suppose the song can still be a tribute to Paul even if it wasn't written with him in mind? Often that's the beauty of music, songs can take on new meanings or be utilised in new lights.

Edit: apparently it's not a cover and doesn't sound similar but the chorus lyrics are quite similar, so guess Simon Ellis built a new song around an existing chorus

I mean to be fair using an existing chorus and planting it into a new song wouldn't be a first for 19 Management - if I'm not mistaken S Club 8's Sundown utilised some of the lyrics from another song by an Australian Popstars winner, did it not?

Still, a surprise but a lovely one to hear they're gonna give new music a go. They all look amazing in this photoshoot!

This is exciting! Really looking forward to hearing it and seeing the video.

Great new pictures - there is an initial weirdness seeing them as a 5 piece, but they do look great and natural together. I wonder if we’ll soon see updated promotional pictures for the tour?

Roll on Wednesday!

they should release some CDs to get extra sales, nice for collectors too with the stunning artwork.

Looking forward to hearing this!

Announcement has now been shared on the S Club Instagram story (as well as Jo and Bradley sharing it on their stories), hopefully an official post from them soon.
Will be nice to hear S Club on a new recording
Am very interested to see what this sounds like. Doubt it will trouble the charts but if they have a plan for an album following it, I could see them being a Steps like success if they play it right. Funnily enough I would never have thought that before.
