For the first time, the World Athletics Championships will be taking place in Budapest, Hungary which will be the nineteenth edition of the World Athletics Championship. It will be taking place from 19th August to 27th August.

 

The coverage of the championships will be live on the BBC in the UK.

I think I bought into the fact that it was over for me," says Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

 

The 30-year-old has endured plenty of heartbreak since being crowned world champion four years ago.

 

First came the career-threatening Achilles rupture, eight months out from an Olympic Games postponed a year by the pandemic.

 

"With an injury that big, there are whispers around whether you can come back from that or ever be the same again," Johnson-Thompson tells BBC Sport.

 

"It's one of the worst injuries I could have had, on my take-off leg, when I thought I was gaining momentum and I was finally on to something after winning the Worlds.

 

"Given my strengths in heptathlon are the high jump and long jump, I felt I had lost my superpower - which is my spring

This has crept up quickly! I'll be on holiday for all of it but hoping I'll still be able to catch a decent amount.

I'll watch some of it. Is that the full men's team? I'm surprised there are only 13 of them (apart from the relays).

KJT way off the pace there.

Just caught the Mixed Relay at the end of these championships now - really sad to see Femke Bol fall at the end just at the cusp of fighting for gold! I guess it means that Team GB get a silver medal gifted to them though.

And a few minutes earlier Hassan did the same thing in the 10000m.

Those two falls must be heartbreaking. I wonder how Bol’s teammates felt after putting them in the hunt for gold

KJT leading the heptathlon after her best ever javelin throw. Just the 800m to go now.

Five out of six Brits through the 1500m semis, with Giles being the only exception, which is a decent result. Giles just didn't have the change of pace required.
