Also, not an independent release as I think some people were saying before.

It is being released on his own Gingerbread Man Records label (or 'Gingerman Records' according to the iTunes pre-order lol), although appears that's still 'distributed' by Warner. Not really sure what the distinction is but I remember something similar to that being the case for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' 'Thrift Shop' and that was still generally considered to be an independent release.

No singles are being released ahead of the album apparently

I don’t see why not. He should at least release a single a week before the album

Main distinction comes from what the label actually does for the artist/product. It'll vary based on the contract, but a distribution deal mostly just comes down to the major label being responsible for pressing the album & getting it to digital/physical storefronts. The label might also have a hand in pushing singles to radio/streaming playlists but it's not a guarantee. The rest of the release is handled independently, so it'll come out of Ed/his label's pocket for funding/marketing, as well as general A&R. And of course, generally means that the masters are his. So obviously it's not fully independent (incidentally Oliver Anthony is a good example of how slapdash things can be without those standardised processes in place), but distinct to the usual major label situation.

If anyone's especially interested in the wonderful world of label semantics and bureaucracy like I am, there's a good (Australian) article I read about it a few years ago here

Is that because he can’t sign fake casseroles to get to no.1 anymore so why bother even trying?

What a pile of old SHITW!!

Folklore and Evermore weren't good and they were by someone with far more talent, and an original - though based off indie pop, churning it through the pop industry inauthentic machine - idea. He's eipping her off, but with less talent and with an obsession with sales and no.1. Flop!!

he's trying a Folklore but hard to emulate one of the best albums in the history of music when your songwriting skills are so limited as a songwriter like in Ed's case
Somehow I get the impression that if anyone (or most people) other than Ed released two albums within a year, they wouldn't get this reaction.

Because 'Eyes Closed' ended up getting a lukewarm reaction, originally (and probably killed all pre-order hype for subtract). He'll be better off getting curiosity streams from people by "going in blind". Whatever takes off, takes off.

Also, several artists have released 2 albums within a short space of time, but then also, those same artists aren't always rinsed on airplay or attached themselves to features continuously in between eras...

(Oh and some artists ARE getting slated for it...)

Come off it, you know Jess Glynne would get this reaction or worse.

Why has not liking an artist become such a crime on here?

There's not liking an artist and then there's the immature comments that make up a lot of this thread.

It’s just people expressing their feelings and it isn’t hurting anyone. Let people have their fun.

Did someone on this thread really say Folklore and Evermore were not good 😂 I give up.

Anyway, I was always an Ed fan but even I am finding him a bit insufferable now.

But with the seasons album, is he gonna pop up one album every 3 months, I mean to do the 4 seasons in 1 calendar year? It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I wouldn't take Michaels opinions seriously, he's just a troll..nothing he says is to be taken seriously. Everything is for a reaction.

You delete this... you delete this... RIGHT NOW! DON'T EVER throw this out there even as a potential troll post omg. :selena:
