good he's working as a checkout girl :)

at least he’s not calling himself a lesbian like Drake did on a number two hit single Lol

not too keen on bittersweet goodbye either - the interpolation in the vocal melody is a bit overdone

Biography

Lizzo is here to let it out. Body positivity, queerness, the embrace of the self in all its possibilities: For her, the freer, the better. Yes, she’s a singer. And a rapper, and—wouldn’t you know it—a pretty impressive flautist. But she’s also an emblem for the idea that social progress starts from within, that her loving herself (and you loving you) is the first step to fighting the forces that keep marginalized people—Black, female, LGBTQ, and otherwise—down. “I think that there’s a wave right now in human experience where we want to feel good, and we’re seeking out the practice of self-care and self-love,” she told Apple Music in 2020. “I think my music just happened to ebb and flow with the way we’re evolving as a people and a culture.” Born Melissa Jefferson in 1988, she grew up between Detroit and Houston, making her way through the Minneapolis indie community in her early twenties. She worked steadily through the 2010s, forging a confident, outsized blend of gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and pop before breaking through with 2019’s Cuz I Love You. She could be funny (“I just took a DNA test/Turns out I’m 100% that bitch,” she raps at the beginning of “Truth Hurts”), vulnerable (“Cuz I Love You”), quirky (“Batches & Cookies”), and empowering (“Juice”). In every case, though, her music brings a muchness, a saturated sense of vibrancy and humor and soul and self-assuredness that just kinda makes you feel good. It’s hard to argue it when, upon accepting the 2019 Apple Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, she said emphatically, “I deserve it!” - Apple Music

Biography

Stormzy

Grime attracts big personalities, but even by the genre’s imposing standards, Stormzy isn’t so much a rapper as a force of nature: a 6’5” lyrical whirlwind boasting a powerhouse voice and one of the most impressive ascents in pop music, stepping up to headline Glastonbury within five years of his debut EP. Born Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. in 1993, Stormzy was still a boy when grime was in its infancy, and he came up battling fellow teens at youth centers in his native Croydon, London. By the time he was 20, he had launched his “WickedSkengMan” series, uploading freestyles over classic grime beats, and he swiftly developed a rep for his tough staccato flow and pugnacious attitude. Fittingly, Stormzy performed his 2015 single “Shut Up,” one of his earliest hits, at a heavyweight boxing match. “I set trends, dem man copy/They catch feelings, I catch bodies,” he raps on the song, and it’s true that when he throws down the gauntlet, he tends to make history: 2015’s “WickedSkengMan 4” was the first freestyle ever to break into the UK Top 40, and in 2017, his debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, was the first grime album to go to No. 1 in the UK charts, 14 years after Dizzee Rascal’s Mercury Prize-winning Boy in da Corner first carved out a space in UK pop for the upstart underground genre. But Stormzy quicky proved himself interested in more than just besting his rivals, instead using his platform to become the voice of conscience for young and marginalized people across the UK. At Glastonbury 2017, he delivered a moving tribute to the victims of that summer’s Grenfell Tower fire; at the 2018 BRIT Awards, he aimed a scathing freestyle at Prime Minister Theresa May, whose government he accused of negligence after the fire. Musically, too, Stormzy has shown a willingness to push beyond grime’s traditional limits, dipping into R&B and gospel as he vacillates between taunts and introspection. “I would be a bit fake if I just gave you pure grime albums,” Stormzy told Apple Music. “I’m going to embrace my musicality because that is true to me as well. I love melody and I love R&B and I love pop music. Bruv, I’m going to do whatever I like.” - Apple Music

RAYE

When RAYE speaks of her music, she doesn’t just talk of songs but of “stories”. And the South London singer-songwriter (born Rachel Agatha Keen in 1997) has quite the knack for writing them. Nominated for the Songwriter of the Year Ivor Novello Award in 2022, RAYE first broke through in 2014 with her star-signalling self-released debut EP, Welcome to the Winter, followed by the Stormzy-featuring Second EP two years later. A stream of singles and collaborations, including with Stefflon Don, Mr Eazi and Jax Jones, hinted at an artist who could shape-shift between musical spheres—and excel wherever she landed. But despite such successes (her name has also featured on the credits of songs by artists such as Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix and John Legend), RAYE felt trapped behind the scenes. In 2021—just months after the release of her chart-topping dance-pop anthem “BED” alongside Joel Corry and David Guetta—the singer-songwriter wrote on social media that she hadn’t been “allowed” to release her debut album and that she was “sick of being slept on” by her label, an allegation that sent shockwaves through the music industry. And it was then that RAYE returned to those stories, as she came to work on her long-awaited 2023 debut LP, My 21st Century Blues, as an independent artist. On it, she explores being a young woman in music and the trauma of sexual assault and substance abuse, but also the things any woman RAYE’s age might be moved to write about: climate change, relationships ending, falling in love with someone new. “This is about me telling the stories I want to tell, in the order I want to tell them, through the sonic landscape I want to tell them,” RAYE told Apple Music at the time of the album’s release. My 21st Century Blues, she added, wasn’t made with mainstream success in mind, yet that’s exactly what it brought. After the confronting “Hard Out Here.” and the made-for-repeat-listening “Black Mascara.”, she unleashed “Escapism.” featuring 070 Shake, a viral hit on both sides of the Atlantic and the biggest song of RAYE’s up to that point. It signalled, without doubt, that her time had come. “It is just the most beautiful validation,” said RAYE. “To know that you’re right to back yourself when you feel conviction and you feel passionately about something. I made this [album] battling and figuring out freedom, and I’m so excited for the artist I get to become. This has set the tone for me.” - Apple Music

Why exactly do people think this is a “bad cover” - I personally think it’s an excellent rendition

i just find it very boring tbh, theres nothing special about it and he doesnt really add anything to the original

First listen to Bittersweet Goodbye, I'd been looking forward to hearing it though. I'm not sure the sample is necessary but overall I'm liking it a lot!

Biography

The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. - Apple Music

Biography

“I think there’s a time in every artist’s life [when] they have to do something that isn’t for fans, isn’t for success, isn’t for touring,” Miley Cyrus told Apple Music in 2018. Cyrus could’ve been speaking about any number of moments from her profoundly varied career. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus—the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus—in Tennessee in 1992, the innovative artist has hardly stayed in one lane for more than a single album since she broke from the bubblegum pop that catapulted her to stardom as Disney’s Hannah Montana. Her 2009 summer anthem “Party In the U.S.A.” earned her a rapid ascent within the pop world, where 2013’s Bangerz—which showcased her musical maturity with “Wrecking Ball” and experimented with elements of Dirty South hip-hop—made her an icon. Vocal about her pansexuality and love for marijuana, Cyrus has worked hard to shed her wholesome teen image, and simultaneously defied odds by earning a reputation for an intense work ethic and an unshakable self-assuredness. She headed to left-field with the psych-tinged 2015 album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, a collaboration with members of The Flaming Lips, and with 2017’s Younger Now, a countrified pop offering that featured godmother Dolly Parton. And she's teamed up with rappers Mike Will Made It and will.i.am, Sarah Barthel of electronic rock group Phantogram, and, in 2018, Mark Ronson for the dramatic hit single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.” Those frequent partnerships have been major catalysts in the creation of Cyrus' diverse catalog and in the cementing of her status as a pop pace-setter by refusing to let it, or herself, be easily defined. - Apple Music

Biography

Pop star Troye Sivan voices the concerns of the internet generation. The Australian actor, singer/songwriter and YouTuber, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1995, already displayed a natural command of the stage at just 11 years old, when he delivered his first of a series of much-lauded performances at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Channel Seven Perth Telethons. His ability to capture an audience won him views on social media, a platform he used to both propel his singing career and as a confessional; he came out publicly as gay via a YouTube video when he was 18 years old. His 2015 debut LP, Blue Neighbourhood, effortlessly landed him in the spotlight, with songs like “YOUTH” and “WILD” serving as the perfect introduction to his brand of sleek, honey-coated synth-pop. His follow-up, Bloom (2018), proved that he could also play well with others, namely pop titan Ariana Grande for their mesmerising duet, “Dance to This''. This knack for collaboration would have him working with a constellation of the era’s most talented stars like Charli XCX on 2018’s iconic throwback anthem “1999” and Lauv on 2019’s “i’m so tired…”, a groovy and relatable anti-pop song where both artists boldly claim to be “tired of love songs”. An icon of queer representation, Sivan has been open about his sexuality and has graciously used his platform to support other LGBTQ artists and causes. - Apple Music

I've never really gotten bored of Anti-Hero, it still sounds just as great as it always did!

Rush hanging around

although im not really a fan of rush, im glad troye has another hit under his belt, and the fact its stuck around for 5 weeks is very impressive!
Still not a fan of Rush at all, the chorus ruins it.

Also Bittersweet Goodbye is a bop so I'm glad to see that enter!

yes same for me, i like the verses of rush but not a fan of the chorus :/
