Posted August 21, 20231 yr Immediately I can think of Duffy being a big example of this as Endlessly peaked at 9, 'Well Well Well' missed the top 40. It might have always been likely that Duffy could never repeat the success of Rockferry considering how huge that album was but you'd still think she would have continued success after that era putting her on the map.
August 21, 20231 yr Mika. Although he continued his success in Europe for a good few years. His second album was a bit 'more of the same' but I think it deserved more than it got. Commercially it was a big step back from Life In Cartoon Motion. I really loved We Are Golden as a lead single but I guess his moment had passed in the UK.
August 21, 20231 yr The Darkness - debut album sold 1.3 million and peaked at no. 1 People didn't think the joke was funny 2 years later and follow up made no.11 and only scraped platinum
August 21, 20231 yr Author Fergie I'd throw in too, she had hits all off one album and then it was back to BEP and no other solo success and if she did chart with anything later on it didn't make top 40!
August 21, 20231 yr The thing with Fergie for me was that the singles were SO good and the rest of the album was so pants! It didn’t make me keen to check out anything from her post The Dutchess!
August 27, 20231 yr Author Sonique is another. Massive era in 2000 and left it too long and returned with a 17 peak with her next era lead single and the album... #142 -_-
August 27, 20231 yr Fergie I'd throw in too, she had hits all off one album and then it was back to BEP and no other solo success and if she did chart with anything later on it didn't make top 40! She did have that random top three hit almost a decade later, La La Love or whatever it was called.
August 27, 20231 yr Author She did have that random top three hit almost a decade later, La La Love or whatever it was called. Oh yeah I forgot about that and tbh it wasn't very good oops lol.
August 27, 20231 yr Fergie I'd throw in too, she had hits all off one album and then it was back to BEP and no other solo success and if she did chart with anything later on it didn't make top 40! Check out La La La (L.a L.a)!!! Top 3 hit ;)
August 27, 20231 yr She did have that random top three hit almost a decade later, La La Love or whatever it was called. And it is an IMMENSE song and a rip off of Gypsy
August 27, 20231 yr Sonique is another. Massive era in 2000 and left it too long and returned with a 17 peak with her next era lead single and the album... #142 -_- I didn’t even know she had a second album/era!
August 27, 20231 yr Sonique has a cover version of the Hocus Pocus Put A Spell On Ypu sang in het discography, so that was probably the second era!
August 27, 20231 yr The Feeling! ‘Twelve Stops and Home’ is such a great indie-pop album. Went on to become certified 3 x Platinum. Their 2nd album went on to sell just 100k… the others? I’m not even sure?
August 27, 20231 yr Sonique has a cover version of the Hocus Pocus Put A Spell On Ypu sang in het discography, so that was probably the second era! I always associated that with the first album, was it not on Hear My Cry?
August 28, 20231 yr Possibly these names; ClSVzlObxSc PtU5IvYK8Wc wUOcQnWbk_U t8dZgf6uBOU rQjh9H-ymK4
August 28, 20231 yr Author Oh course The Feeling didn't even enter my head with this one lmao. Just one top 10 hit and that was it for their second era, mind you they followed up 'I Thought It Was Over' with their worst track for me and that was 'Without You' :(
August 28, 20231 yr Lene Marlin Sitting Down Here is such a cute and slightly heartbreaking song! Edit: I didn’t know until I just looked her up that the pressures of fame led her down a dark path. I won’t state further due to triggers but I’m glad she’s in a happier place now.
