All the current talk in the 21st Century Throwback forum this week has been about one hit wonders, as well as those who may have had one or more hits but are generally referred to as one hit wonders.

How about no-hit wonders. Is there an artist who’s been around for a significant amount of time, has recorded multiple albums but surprisingly has never had a UK hit in their own rights?

Who would best fit such a description?

Unknown T and Loski are both among the bigger and more commercial names in UK drill and have had plenty of low charting songs but surprisingly none of them yet cracking the top 40. Those are the first to come to mind for me although they've both only been around in the charts for about 5 years so I'm sure they still have time.

Royal Blood for a slightly more BuzzJack friendly answer although also a fairly recent one (they have had 3 #1 albums which all produced at least one charting song but no top 40s).

Would FKA Twigs count? She technically does have a top 40 to her name due to her part in Ego Death but none of her own solo stuff has ever got there.

Immediately thought of her. Considering how well she is promoted she must lose lots of money for record company? Shame as ridiculously talented.

Grimes hasn't had a UK Top 75 hit and I think her only Top 100 hit was on Bring Me The Horizon's 'Nihilist Blues'.

Tom Waits is one of the most respected and covered artists ever, yet doesn’t have a top 75 hit to his name in his own right.

Similarly, The Velvet Underground are one of the most influential bands ever, but never made the top 40 and their only top 75 single was a live version of “Venus In Furs” released in the 90s. Lou Reed did have a few hits as a solo artist though.

For no top 40s only, my first thought was also Carrie Underwood, apart from her feature on the Just Stand Up song that almost every female artist of the time was on.

In the 90s/early 00s there was an indie act called Gorky's Zygotic Mynci who were pretty well known at the time and had eight top 75 hits, none of which went top 40.

I think dodie qualifies too - she's had a top three album and is very well known online but never come close to the singles chart. There's probably a lot of similar Gen Z acts in this position, whose overall streams are impressive, they are well known online and sell out decent sized tours with ease, but they just haven't broken through commercially with any one individual song yet. I just can't think of any other good examples right now.

HRVY?

I thought this was a joke suggestion tbh! Certainly compared to some of the suggestions here so far. Has he ever been that big?

EDIT: Although mainly features, his streaming numbers are surprisingly good! I must have missed ‘Personal’, I’ve never heard it

Some arena-sized artists that come to mind without Top 40s:

Architects

Blossoms

IDLES

Maisie Peters

Nothing But Thieves

Skindred

YUNGBLUD (solo)

Goes to show that hit singles aren’t required to be really successful now.

Personal was a significant hit and he's definitely quite well known, I expect he would've had a top 10 album if his label had actually continued with its release. Not to mention him going on Strictly so he's quite well-known even if it's not as much for his music.

Personal was massive, I was shocked that missed the top 40! I thought he was going to be the next Shawn Mendes like when Stitches just took off out of nowhere.

Avenged Sevenfold, I guess. Their most well-known songs (apart from Hail To The King) did not even chart.

Rina Sawayama?

Sam Fender would be on this list without Seventeen Going Under.
