Big congrats to Oliver and that you to Kath for the wonderful hosting!

Super happy with 4th place! I had a sneaking worry that I’d underperform despite the big hype. So to be in the top 5 is more than enough success for me. Although I did want to win and host, this just gives me more time to come up with a better song to win and a better theme for my future hosting debut~

Math's votes propelling me all the way to 16th *.* which is actually higher than I was on any of the running scoreboards so way to finish on a high note! Very pleased with this result, solidly my 2nd best of the year (both being in Kath hosted contests so lucky charm confirmed!), I thought when I first sent the song that it is the kind of rap entry that might do decently but then really convinced myself it had fallen flat after the semi-final SyncTube listenthrough, it got a better reception in the final though and great to see that also reflected in the actual results, can't pretend it's one of my most ~deep and meaningful~ entries ever but it's just a solid 2 minutes and change of pure energy and sometimes that's all you need x 16th is actually the exact same result as I got with my anniversary BROCKHAMPTON entry so that's quite fitting that the same position awaited their would-be support act!

The Cadelicia entry was a way off my votes in such a strong contest but it did grow on me throughout the contest from initially going pretty much completely over my head to ultimately thinking it was pretty good (ranked 27th so not far off getting a commiseration), I can definitely see why it was such a favourite, not a bad winner at all and it's always brilliant to welcome a new country to the winners' circle, especially such a long running nation who's come 2nd a couple of times before!

Fun stats: Cadelicia winning for the first time on their 79th attempt which would be a new record... if not for Terra Avium having already broken that record earlier in the year by getting a first win on 109th attempt :magic: Kylienips were the record holder before that (taking 75 attempts, up to BJSC 75) so that record held for 7 and a half years before being beaten twice over this year!

Thrilled to see Fljótavík coming 2nd in the end, I would have loved to see it winning obviously but I'm really being spoiled this year with so many of my 18s doing so well (2 of them have won already and now 3 of them have come 2nd!) I really ought to check out more of this Headache album as this was a really compelling entry and definitely one that won't be soon forgotten - also on a selfish note it's good to see a Vegyn entry (albeit under a different guise) getting a much better result than when I sent him :teresa: Well done to Kath getting yet another smash too, was really sad to not be able to fit this one into my botes. The Addison Rae song was not bad by any means but I am glad it didn't turn out to be a runaway winner as I feared, not least because it was reeeeally borderline on the veto side. Operation talk it up to subconsciously influence people to not vote for it too highly a roaring success!! :teresa: (jk, or am I xx)

Loving that lower half of the top 10 too - I didn't call Sovarasma being so big but then techno entries often prove lucrative so makes sense in retrospect, brilliant to see a rare top 10 for Aelandor (only their third ever :o), and Dobago and Cumulonimbia both serving stone cold bangers so fantastic to see them sneaking into the top 10 near the end, especially the latter for somewhat coming close to justifying me naming it as a winner contender, ok I was a way off but at least it's top 10 x Bøtanikkä so close to making it in too! And more good stuff in the top 15 from Terra Avium and a couple more that were near misses in my votes from New Lexico and Hendinia.

Also good result for Suedeonia and decent for Abeltesfayeton (though I'm surprised they didn't end up having the highest of the rap entries! though my entry only got 1 more vote and 24 more points despite finishing 12 places higher so it's closer than it appears). Jadakissnia, Scotland 2 and Skall deserved better although the latter 2 (especially Scotland 2) were pretty surprising qualifiers in the first place so can't complain too much.

Yehesi being last even before the deduction oop  but it managing to solidly clear 100 points before the deduction, so not bad going by anyone really.

Was projected 32nd from the semis so quite an improvement, not surprised at that as I did get quite a few double figure points from people who were in semi 1! Almost an exact match between those who voted for me in the semi and those from my semi who voted for me in the final, just dipping from 1 point to a commiseration from POPHub, so just seems it was a bit of a wrong semi but thankfully not wrong enough to DNQ (kinda close though, only safe by 12 points!) Love to see Banshee winning the semi *.*

Thanks for another great hosting job Kath and have been enjoying the background choons from Kathaldazia FM x

Oh so the Halloween vibes were good enough for the Beaverdonians in the semi!! -_-

(oops dropped out quite a few people's points from semi to final but tbf I get the struggle it was a killer list of songs)

!!!!

tbf Michael did send a song that sent a big scare to the veto panel :magic:

ps Rich do manage my publicity campaign every contest please x

It was such a stunning discovery, It knocked me for six the first time I heard it in a way that so few songs do generally, let alone just songs from BJSC. I couldn't help getting carried away  Thanks for sending and not changing your entry!

Rich you naughty gal!!!!

Lady Buzzjack surely turning a blind eye.

Lady Buzzjack surely turning a blind eye.

Not all of us are ladies!!

A mid-table position in the final for a cover of a 1970s prog-rock song is a pretty good result in my book. The number of people who included it in their votes or commiserations at least means that very few (if any) people hated it.
What have I got to do to win your love? That’s what SHEE said.

I guess 25th ain’t too bad, and it’s a unique final position.

Thank you splendid Kathaldazia for your hosting, and I admire your playlist too which was a fun listen along!

Congratulations from Zanmatony to Cadelicia! :cheer:

Wow, I can't believe of all the results threads to miss live, it was this one. I just remembered before going to bed "oh damn it might've been results this evening, I'd better have a quick look."

First of all, this has been one of my favourite contests in a while, thanks Kath for the host and well done on entry picks to everyone! There were a fair few that didn't make my votes that would've in other contests. Congrats to Cadelicia- a cracking song that ofc made my votes, very catchy and a deserving winner. So so happy to see Fljótavík in 2nd, obviously I was hoping it'd win, it really connected with me and glad to see it did with so many other. It's got to the point where when I'm listening to it I mouth/ say the spoken word (if I'm alone at least  ), it's hypnotic.

As for my entry, I genuinely expected 30th or something, tbh I was 50/50 on whether it would even qualify, though the predictions were generally good. I didn't even make it into any of the higher or even middle odds- at least not the ones I saw, when I was reading through the early pages I couldn't believe I was top 10 and thought it'd fizzle out and the votes would dry up. So so happy to be 7th, (stats time xx) an unique position and believe it or not, my first top 10 since "Gloria" came 2nd in December 2018, despite entering all but 3 contests since then- as Bré says this is also my 3rd top 10 which makes it now my 3rd highest position (after The Midnight in 2nd and Lights in 5th) in 71 entries. Thanks for all the votes but especially all the 18s/ other medal positions, glad you liked "A Gallant Gentleman" as much as I did, it has a great emotional build despite having no lyrics, in a way only the best instrumentals can. I had it as a potential since probably May or June. For me it's the choir after the slow build that gives it that extra lift, taking it from a great track to an outstanding one in my eyes.

Yehesi falling 31 places from their projected position matches the all time record (previously set by Sandénia in BJSC 123 with Isaac Dunbar's 'makeup drawer' falling from projected 6th to final 37th).
Now to pick a song for the next contest out of my current 14 (!!!) potential options :music:

Amazing hosting again Kath, thank you! Another stellar result and got to be contending Hendinia for the EOY No.1 now surely?

Apols for continuing to not be very forthcoming with YTD data (I meant to post a quick update last month again but got distracted by a shiny object and never did) but Kathaldazia were in fact already #1 for the year after the last contest! So indeed cementing a bit of a lead after this month...

Here's this month's update before I forget again! (I promise progress is being made towards being in the position to resume the full threads and whatnot though I will still know better than to give an exact date for when this will happen, in the mean time if anyone wants any particular YTD stats feel free to request x)

Gotta bring the heat these next few contests to bring my country up to the top 20! Thanks for the update Bray, and slay Kath @ being #1!

Congrats Oliver! 'Don't Look Down' was a last-minute grower for me, I wanted to give it more points but glad I didn't need to. I wouldn't ever have expected BANKS to collab with Jai Wolf but she sure sounds terrific on it.

Oop I only voted for 3 of the top 10, but the other two were big faves in FILLY and Pharmacist, WD to both. And I'm very happy for Aelandor getting their long-awaited third top 10!!

As everyone has said it was such a strong contest, so I'll be forgiving but gosh, in no universe did Ojnoj deserve bottom 5. St. Burbia was heavily slept on too, 'MAMA EH' was among my favorite Arabic entries ever and I'm just relieved it avoided last.

Thanks again Kath for hosting, another smooth and seamless job!

Thanks Bré for that YTD update. Potentially coming for a strong finish if I can maintain.

It’s great to see 89 unique participants for 2023, and would have been awesome to hit 100 but unlikely to happen obviously. The one thing that doesn’t sit right with me here is seeing Freedonia last with three contests and three DNQ’s… I thought they were edging closer each time before they seemingly decided to give up again. I hope Dot doesn’t feel like nobody appreciated his entries as I did.
