I doubt Curse Of The Wererabbit will chart as like the other aardman films, M4J. It might chart if Cineworld drop the M4J and allow everyone to watch it

But honestly I think this is getting close to if not beating ‘No Way Home’ opening!

I definitely think it's debuting in at least 2nd place. It's just a question of "How high" can BND go for opening weekend...

I won’t spoil anything more before the final chart (which might be less detailed than usual as I’m on holiday) but Spider-Man has made just under £13 million in previews in the past two days

Current projection for UK could be £50,000+!!!

Also Odyssey is holding up well. This is gonna be a huge profitable weekend across the world in the box office.

£50 million? Is every screen in the UK just playing Spider-Man or something? Those are US #1 numbers.

Looking at the worldwide projections it cant be far off that looks like that £50m might even be a gross under estimate

Toy Story 5 about to lose their spot as highest-grossing movie of the year very quickly

I think Spider-Man will be more in the £40 million range than £50 million.

~6-9% if the entire country’s population going to see a movie in one weekend? Seems kind of ridiculous. I didn’t think UK partakes in such outrageous forms of tribalism outside of xenophobia x

Box Office Mojo is projecting $355 million(!) this weekend for the USA alone, and over $900 million worldwide, so £50 million may actually be on the cards.

What a time it is to be a cinema owner as we have two films putting up historic numbers at the same time with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ debuting at #1 with a huge £36,405,319; enough for it to become the third-biggest opening day of all-time, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (£43,400,000, #1, 2019) and ‘Spectre’ (£41,299,090, #1, 2015). And it’s 3-day opening of £23.5 million puts it 4^th in that metric (above ‘Spectre’ but now behind ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (£24.2 million) and ‘’Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ (£23.7 million). This is enough for it to already outgross six of the eight previous Spider-Man films. ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ (£37.3 million) will already be beat by end of play today and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ (£97.3 million) is the massive target it will be looking to beat. The biggest ever film in the UK is ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (£123.3 million) which will remain safe but could this become the third ever film to pass £100 million?

 

The only other new entry this week is ‘Ish’ (£31,172, #9) that takes advantage of the monopoly of the big releases to bag a top 10 debut on a low gross. This is a film set within the Muslim community in Luton and has Joy Crookes play a role.

 

But, despite falling to #2, ‘The Odyssey’ is continuing to perform incredibly strongly losing 43% in weekend two to add another £6.8 million. It’s the fourth film from Nolan to hit £50 million and is now less than £10 million away from overtaking ‘Oppenheimer’ and becoming his top film. It has nearly done enough to climb above the only other film to make £1 million+ this week, ‘Toy Story 5’ which drops 45%. The £66 million of ‘Toy Story 4’ looks like too big a challenge now.

 

‘Minions & Monsters’ drop 43% to leapfrog ‘Moana’ (-48%) but neither film has much to shout about. ‘Minions’ is slowly climbing to £15 million while ‘Moana’ has finally passed £10 million. ‘The Invite’ holds at #6 for a fourth week and has the best hold in the top 10 (-38%). With £3.5 million, it’s now entered Black Bear’s top 5 releases.

 

‘Obsession’ drops 45% but makes it an inside 12^th week in the top 10. By far the best run of any film this year. The other horror film in the market, ‘Evil Dead Rise’ isn’t having the same success with a 69% drop. Indian hit ‘Jana Nayagan’ gets a second weekend in the top 10 but this is with a 91% drop and only £26,373 added.

 

There are two further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Unmadham’ (#12) and ‘Wham!: 10 Days In China’ (#15).

 

Next week sees the openings of ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’, ‘Super Troopers 3’, ‘Ice Cream Man’, ‘The Summer Book’, ‘Fall 2’ and ‘Ateez: Light The Way In Cinema’. We also see re-releases of ‘Hunt For The Wilderpeople’, ‘Practical Magic’ and ‘Flushed Away’. Can any of them top the charts?

Maybe End Of Oak Street could topple Spider-Man. Ice Cream Man definitely won’t as most cinemas only have afternoon showings and it was tonight’s secret screaming. Spider-Man getting loads of sales because it’s taking up nearly every screen in the cinemas. I remember back in the day when they prioritised each screen for each film they were showing rather than one film taking up multiple screens. My local Cineworld isn’t showing Super Troopers 3 because of Spider-Man taking up most of the screens so gonna watch that at odeon

That’s because the demand for Spider-Man is there… it’s literally selling out every screen possible. So why would they opt for movies that won’t make anywhere bear as much? Makes zero sense to me, particularly from a business perspective.

Because most people visit the cinemas on the day a new film is released. If there’s no new films out, I won’t go. I was queuing at the foyer for half an hour yesterday and today because from last Monday to tomorrow, it costs £8 for non members to watch Spider-Man in 3D 4DX (£3 for members) and they see it as a bargain
