A little factoid - Coldplay are, surprisingly in my view, the second most streamed UK artist on Spotify of all time with over 27 Billion streams, according to kworb (25th biggest worldwide). Ed Sheeran is miles ahead at 5th and Dua is breathing down their necks at 27th (Adele is only at 56 but that's probably due to her delay in getting her catalogue up there).

and just as mentioned 'Arabesque' in the previous commentary, it now heads out here. This one can be found on the Sunrise disc of Everyday Life and picked up a 10 as the highest from Julian and Michael scoring it a 0 as the lowest. This one sounds an awful like something you'd hear on Jools Holland or something. At 25th in the rate we see 2003 single 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' which charted only at #100 due to just promo copies being issued. It appears on Now 55 and I am Kenough/Dot gave it the highest with a 10, Iz on the other hand gave the song the lowest with 2 although I nearly almost gave it a 2 as well but went for a 3 instead, was the least interesting song of theirs by far for me but that didn't stop it picking up good scores aside from that.

'Arabesque' is a pretty awesome left-field moment from them. I never would've expected Stromae to appear on one of their songs!

Oh that's a shame GPASUYF has dropped out pretty early. It didn't used to be one of my faves from Coldplay but has really grown on me in more recent times.

'The Hardest Part' was such an unbelievably odd choice of single when they had 'Square One', 'White Shadows' and even 'What If' available to choose from :/

Easily one of their best, and shoulda been a proprr single instead of Hardest Part. Politik, Square One and that AND White Shadoes all.shoulda been bonrfied singles.

Aw not a big gap between 'Orphans' and 'Arabesque' then - the latter was quite a bold choice to put out as a single albeit that being diluted by putting it out at the same time as a much more radio friendly song :lol: I didn't think all of the sound experimentation on 'Everyday Life' panned out into great songs but this was certainly one case where it did :heart:

Yep just listened to 'Arabesque' again now and pretty amazing especially the French language bit and the ending.

 

'God put a smile on Your Face' seemed to me to be one of the Coldplay songs non-fans liked most, and I was expecting it to be higher here, although personally not my favourite and way down my ranking of 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' tracks..

The first song from Ghost Stories that did make the top 40 drops out next in the form of 'Magic' and it peaked at #10. Amazingly it didn't pick up any 11 or 10 but 6 of us did give it 9 in the rate and on the lower end of the spectrum two people gave it 3. The video was of course based around a magic show but to make it look old school it was in black and white. We're 3 months away from Christmas but we do have Coldplay's Christmas single fall out too. Picking up pretty much decent scores overall but dragged down by two 3's while picking up a 11 and 10 respectively. 'Christmas Light's does it's job of making you feel all warm and cosy with that lovely piano playing you hear in it!

Found 'Magic' a bit dull tbh and was really annoyed that they didn't push the superior 'Midnight' as a proper single.

 

'Christmas Lights' is pretty divine and one of those festive tracks that deserves to go top 40 each year. Doesn't quite fit the feel of those US biased, more joyful, retro playlists on Spotify to do much better though.

The results certainly seem to reflect that re 'Midnight' being the should've been lead single of the two. 'Magic' did work for me too though but can see why it's bland for some!

All of that opening trio of 'Ghost Stories' singles were #1s on my personal chart - 'Magic' is definitely the one I feel least compelled to go back to but it's still a really lovely song whenever I do hear it so I feel like I slightly underrate it subconsciously myself! Not complaining at it being the lowest of the 3 though (I was definitely expecting 'Midnight' to be lower / out by now).

 

'Christmas Lights' is a lovely addition to the Christmas canon, it's a shame it never seems to get its flowers like Leona, Kelly and Ariana when people discuss recent Christmas classics despite it also having a pretty impressive chart legacy.

One of the best modern Xmas songs of ALL TIME!!!!

I'm really fond of Magic - find the lyrics beautiful.

 

Christmas Lights has really grown on me over the years - it's subtle but really captures that festive mood in quite a special way.

 

Arabesque is extraordinarily adventurous from them and I love it.

The highest of the singles to come from A Head Full Of Dreams lands up at 22nd here in the form of the lead track 'Adventure Of A Lifetime'. It was quite the adventurous song indeed accompanied by shots inside the zoo for the music video with monkeys and what not. 'Lost' also departs before the top 20, there was a version released featuring Jay-Z which I think may have contributed to it's #54 peak but not totally sure on that!

'Adventure Of A Lifetime' is the first of my 10s to drop out, which I suppose isn't too surprising! Such a joyous song though :wub: and gotta love the monkeys x

'Lost' is probably the weakest track on 'Viva La Vida' album and the addition of Jay Z didn't seem to do much to improve it (other than allowing for a few high profile live performances) or stop it flopping.

 

'Adventures of a Lifetime' I found annoying, a bit too chirpy. And to have monkeys so soon after elephants - no thanks! :hand: But I see it's got a few big fans.
