Thanks to the 36 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

Official results from week 36:

[ 23 ] Kylie Minogue - Tension (#19)

[ 18 ] Kenya Grace - Strangers (#20)

[ 17 ] Måneskin - HONEY (ARE U COMING?) (#75)

[ 13 ] Jungle - Back On 74 (#73)

[ 10 ] Nicki Minaj - Last Time I Saw You (#46)

[ 8 ] Doja Cat - Demons (#53)

[ 8 ] Griff - Vertigo (#84)

[ 7 ] Tion Wayne and Nines - AMEN (#43)

[ 6 ] ZWE1HVNDXR and yatashigang - LOVELY BASTARDS (#96)

[ 6 ] Paul Russell - Lil Boo Thang (#97)

[ 5 ] Travis Scott - I KNOW ? (#63)

[ 5 ] Tunde - Not Guilty (#95)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 36 and auto-qualifying for the September monthly round is Kylie Minogue - Tension.

No surprise this week as Aussie legend Kylie Minogue goes 2 for 2 on poll wins with 'Tension', the second single and title track from her forthcoming 16th studio album, landing a higher debut chart position (just inside the top 20) than the surprisingly big lead single 'Padam Padam' but so far not looking likely to have the same staying power. It also has a weaker result in this poll, attracting only half the number of voters who came to bar for 'Padam Padam' (though to be fair there was also only just over half the number of total voters in the poll - where was the Kylie brigade? - so in percentage terms it's not that far off, winning the support of 63.9% of voters compared to 'Padam Padam' getting 70.7%). Coming in a fairly close 2nd place, 5 votes behind, is the sudden big viral sensation Kenya Grace with her chart debut. Rounding out a strong top 3 just one further vote behind is the latest hit from Måneskin whose Eurovision / TikTok clout still hasn't totally run out yet, and two further songs also crack double figures, the second and biggest charting song to date from neo-soul band Jungle coming in 4 votes behind the top 3 and Nicki Minaj's return to pop rap a further 3 votes behind and just about reaching the mark.

Everyone managed to get to at least 5 votes this week, midlly impressed to see Tunde just about pulling it off (and Tion Wayne/Nines a couple of votes clear, an ok showing for the usual UK rap also-rans) as well as Travis Scott continuing to pull in consistent if unimpressive vote numbers as his revolving door of chart entries continues. Shame to see Doja losing the battle of the rap girls with an imo far better offering than Nicki but hey. Also a bit surprised to see Griff struggling here, I would have expected her to come 2nd tbh...!

10 songs on offer this week totalling a brief 28 minutes and 36 seconds - the more popular version of the SUICIDAL-IDOL track is actually a slowed version that stretches it out a bit albeit still under 2 minutes, I've stuck with the original on the playlist though. I also considered including the rest of V's EP as I'm still kinda convinced the EP downloads counted towards the chart position of 'Slow Dancing' but who knows, it might have just been some other shenanigans, also I doubt anyone here really cares about V EP tracks.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

I got the thread up more or less on time this week hooray, hopefully we are in a new era of good timekeeping. We shall go for a Sunday night deadline for this week once more x

And here are the results from the August monthly round... (with thanks to the 24 people that voted in that :magic:)

Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:

10 98 Bebe Rexha and David Guetta - One In A Million

9 114 Jazzy - Feel It

8 116 Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye

7 129 Billy Gillies - DNA (Loving You) (feat. Hannah Boleyn)

6 135 Calvin Harris and Sam Smith - Desire

5 141 cassö, RAYE and D-Block Europe - Prada

Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...

4 149 Doja Cat - Paint The Town Red

Which means our next 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Chase And Status/Bou et al., Fred again../Obongjayar and Olivia Rodrigo :cheer: Unsurprisingly Olivia dominated the field here (I wish I liked it more myself but alas), her second monthly round win in a row thus banking her 2nd appearance in the yearly final and again cracking 200 points despite fewer voters this month. It was again much closer for the other qualifying positions but not quite the nailbiter it was for July, 17 points this time separating 2nd from 5th. Chase And Status and their cast of thousands had very polarised scores but enough people on the positive side that they ended up in the silver medal slot albeit 43 points behind Olivia. Fred again.. nabbed the bronze medal a further 7 points behind (securing a place in the yearly final after falling short with 'Rumble', as does Flowdan on 'Baddadan' of course) and 2 points ahead of Doja Cat's UK #1 which goes to the playoff. Only 8 points further behind is cassö, RAYE and D-Block Europe - the world may have ended if we voted a DBE song through to the final here but thank the lord we didn't. It's a bunch more dance songs making up the lower half, I kind of expected Calvin and Sam to make the top 3 here but not complaining that they didn't x With 'Baddadan' and 'adore u' both qualifying, this is the first month to have multiple male vocal songs in the top 3, bringing up to 5 the total number of songs booked in the final with male vocals (following Nothing But Thieves, Post Malone and Käärijä).

3 151 Fred again.. and Obongjayar - adore u

2 158 Chase And Status and Bou - Baddadan (feat. IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga and Takura)

1 201 Olivia Rodrigo - bad idea right?

Click here for the full voting breakdown of the month if that interests you.

Voted Olivia (continuing to impress with the rock sound this era), The Rolling Stones and SUICIDAL-IDOL (although Rose Gray's correctly spelt 'Ecstasy' should have been a chart hit instead)
not a great week, I don't love any of these but I'll pick my top three anyhow which are Leigh-Anne, Tyla and Campbell/Alcemist

1. Olivia Rodrigo - get him back!

2. Leigh-Anne - My Love (feat. Ayra Starr)

3. SUICIDAL-IDOL - ecstacy

4. Skrapz - Normal

5. The Rolling Stones - Angry

6. Cardi B - Bongos (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)

7. Tyla - Water

8. Clavish and Aitch - Tip Toes

9. Campbell and Alcemist - Would You (go to bed with me?)

10. V - Slow Dancing

Voting for my top 2 this week. 'get him back! is another banger from Olivia and 'My Love' is a second solid, if not spectauluar, entry from Leigh-Anne.

I quite like the normal version of 'ecstacy' but I'm not even going to bother with the slowed down version. Not a fan of that trend at all. The lyrics aren't up to much in 'Normal' but I really like Skrapz's flow.

'Angry' would be ok if someone other than Mick Jagger was singing it. Not enjoying his vocals there. Sydney Sweeney in the video though

Bongos is another one that could have easily been decent with one small change. The 'bong' repetition is very annoying.

The rest are just meh. Nothing awful, but not worth commenting on.

1. The Rolling Stones - Angry

2. Olivia Rodrigo - get him back!

3. SUICIDAL-IDOL - ecstacy

4. Campbell and Alcemist - Would You (go to bed with me?)

5. Tyla - Water

6. Leigh-Anne - My Love (feat. Ayra Starr)

7. Cardi B - Bongos (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)

8. Clavish and Aitch - Tip Toes

9. V - Slow Dancing

10. Skrapz - Normal

Olivia Rodrigo - get him back! (#7) - extremely immature and annoying song, guess it was all downhill after Vampire then

V - Slow Dancing (#24) - that 2000s boyband need to sue! the song is a jam though

Leigh-Anne - My Love (feat. Ayra Starr) (#28) - this is much better than her debut, really quite good!

The Rolling Stones - Angry (#34) - decent, not much else to say really

Cardi B - Bongos (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) (#35) - rapping is alright but the continual bong in the background ruins the song mostly

Clavish and Aitch - Tip Toes (#52) - nice vibe to this one, steel drums are always a winner

Tyla - Water (#55) - production is tight, not sold on the vocals or melody yet but could be a grower, it's a pass for now though

Campbell and Alcemist - Would You (go to bed with me?) (#79) - no thanks

Skrapz - Normal (#83) - this isn't the one

SUICIDAL-IDOL - ecstacy (#97) - and this week in the random ALL CAPITALS niche top 100 scrape... don't like the vox here

Voted V, Leigh-Anne and Clavish/Aitch.

Went for The Stones and Leigh-Anne (really nice song though not sure how much she actually contributes LOL).

1 'get him back!' 8.5/10

2 'ecstacy' 8/10

3 'Water' 7.5/10

4 'Normal' 7.5/10

5 'Slow Dancing' 6.5/10

6 'Angry' 6.5/10

7 'My Love' 6/10

8 'Tip Toes' 6/10

9 'Bongos' 5/10

10 'Would You (go to bed with me?)' 4/10

Voted for my top 4 (and looks like I may have prevented another 0-voter by doing so ) I was a little worried about 'get him back!' as I'd heard it was in a similar style to 'bad idea right?' which I've really grown to quite dislike now but this one is actually doing it for me much more, finding it a lot less cringy lyrically (the play on the double meaning of the title is quite clever actually) and I think it has a really strong hook this time. I look forward to her next plagiarism controversy when enough people realise how similar it is to 'Pepper' by Butthole Surfers though :kink: but that is a great song to draw inspiration from x Some of the lyrics of 'ectacy' are a little much and I have heard that it's got popular thanks to a pretty unsavoury crowd on TikTok but putting that aside it is still a really cool sounding song albeit far too short (I refuse to listen to a slowed down version just to get close to an acceptable song length xx), I'm loving the greater variety of electronic music that's making the charts recently albeit not so much crossing over to the top 40 yet. 'Water' is a really lovely track and Tyla has a beautiful voice, showcased much better here than on her BJSC entries I think. Skrapz kind of sounds like a cross between Giggs and Nines (the latter even being namedropped in this song lol, sounds like he wants to get out of Nines' shadow so soz for bringing him up x), 'Normal' lives up to its title really but it's got a good beat and infectious enough flow that I just about thought it was vote worthy, not too surprised that I'm the only one so far though. 'Slow Dancing' was better than I expected, nothing amazing but very pleasant and particularly quite liking the instrumental section near the end. I love that 'Angry' was a top 40 hit and also a solid if not spectacular song, basically just sounds like something that would crop up as disc 2 track 20 on a Now! album lol ~ 'My Love' was somewhat saved from mediocrity by the Ayra Starr feature, she sounded great on this song so I wish we got more of her, Leigh-Anne's parts are fine too I guess but overall definitely preferred her first single. 'Tip Toes' had a pretty good hook, one of Clavish's better songs I guess (I'll take another 00s hip-hop throwback over his usual style) although can take or leave both his and Aitch's verses. I was never really all that into 'WAP' as a song (enjoyed it as a ~phenomenon~ but the song was always just ok), 'Bongos' just feels like an even weaker retread so not surprised it's not connected as well with the public, it's not bad per se but it just bores me a bit. Megan definitely outperforms Cardi but I don't think there are many memorable/quotable lines from either of them this time. And the Campbell thing... I don't really even know what to make of the original Touch And Go version honestly but I definitely don't think we needed a remake of it, especially as it's basically just adding in a lazy dnb beat under the original instrumental and overusing the sampled vocals (I feel like the vocal is used more in this than the original despite it being only half the length lmao), the instrumental is still kinda fun I guess but I think I'll pass on this.

Very close between the top 2 currently, hoping we'll still get a fair few more votes in today though!

01. SUICIDAL-IDOL - ecstacy (#97)

02. Olivia Rodrigo - get him back! (#7)

03. Leigh-Anne - My Love (feat. Ayra Starr) (#28)

04. The Rolling Stones - Angry (#34)

05. Tyla - Water (#55)

06. V - Slow Dancing (#24)

07. Skrapz - Normal (#83)

08. Clavish and Aitch - Tip Toes (#52)

09. Cardi B - Bongos (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) (#35)

10. Campbell and Alcemist - Would You (go to bed with me?) (#79) ~ omg this sample *_* what a headache
