September 29, 20232 yr Tension may have lower sales but better legs than Disco? People seem to prefer the singles so far.
September 29, 20232 yr Also Hell N Back seems to have been reset again for no reason and is back at #49His album came out and has a new version of 'Hell N Back' on it featuring Summer Walker.
September 29, 20232 yr His album came out and has a new version of 'Hell N Back' on it featuring Summer Walker. Ah apologies, was not aware of that at all. Can't have had too much influence on its overall sales tho?
September 29, 20232 yr Tension's sales: 53,237 units (20,168 CDs, 19,159 vinyl albums, 4,825 cassettes, 5,122 digital downloads and 3,963 sales-equivalent streams) The streams are very low considering the market has been up since Disco AND she had a hit to back the album. BMG needs to find a way to market her better for the streaming audience, not just BBC2 and Graham Norton. For reference, Pink did 5.6k in streams. I’m disappointed by the sales, but c’mon - almost 4K streaming sales is amazing for an artist that debuted in the 80’s, Kylie is in her own league.

I was more referring to the disappointing growth since Disco even with the hit(s). Obviously she is smashing it as a whole with great overall sales. But streaming success is the key to longevity on album chart.
September 29, 20232 yr Kylie didn’t have streaming on her side for Golden (27 weeks on the chart), SBIT (20 weeks), and Disco (17 weeks) so hopefully Tension will follow the same pattern and be able to rack up some decent weeks in the album charts even with lower streaming numbers.

But streaming success is the key to longevity on album chart. Well, what do you suggest they do about it? P.S. I'm still waiting for you to quantify your claim that the market is up from when she released Disco.
September 29, 20232 yr I would be surprised if the remix of 'Hell N Back' from the Bakar album actually resulted in a 25% streaming lift (and the song isn't top 100 on the streaming chart) so I'd guess the label has just argued that the remix release justifies a manual reset - does feel like a very pointless one, at least it wasn't a sudden top 40 re-entry to mess with Joseph's prep I suppose! 4k is a pretty great streaming total for a semi-legacy artist tbh. Having one big streaming hit doesn't directly increase album streams but 'Padam Padam' (and 'Tension' to a lesser extent) do seem to have done the job decently enough to attract more streams for the album as a whole compared to her last one. Well, what do you suggest they do about it? P.S. I'm still waiting for you to quantify your claim that the market is up from when she released Disco. I assume he meant the streaming market, not the overall market.
September 29, 20232 yr Well, what do you suggest they do about it? P.S. I'm still waiting for you to quantify your claim that the market is up from when she released Disco. Obviously the streaming numbers can be anything on any particular week, but at least last week the Music Week report said "Overall album sales are down 1.34% week-on-week at 2,147,708, 15.60% above same week 2022 sales of 1,857,916". I would assume the streaming sales are now higher than they were in 2020, even if physical sales are down. At least they are higher than last year. In Tension's case, the cd sales were down from Disco but vinyl sales up, and that also reflects the general market trend.
September 29, 20232 yr Tension probably sold less because, Disco was basically battling confetti all week so was pushed a lot more , can see tension having more longevity though Edited September 29, 20232 yr by 777666jason

Streaming sales are higher than they were in 2020, but in album chart terms those "sales" are going all over the place, whether it's Rumours, This Is The Weeknd or Thin Lizzy's greatest hits or whatever, depending which songs people are streaming from the playlists they're using. If anything, streams are less concentrated to popular new releases than they were then ('GUTS' having a lower streaming opening than 'SOUR' could be another sign of that).
September 29, 20232 yr But, then again, Pink increased her opening streams from 4.4k (H2BH) to 5.6k (Trustfall), so I guess it depends where you come from and what was your previous effort like. That is in line with the increase from Disco to Tension, but somehow I expected Tension to have bigger increase than it did, considering the hype was much bigger than, let's say around Trustfall. I am using Pink as an example as her audience is also very "adult" and she is still having success on both singles and album charts. Edited September 29, 20232 yr by Sour Candy
