Number.1 but they are adding her only to C-list,

Not surprising but I'd never understand their logic.

Anyway apart from that, boring week.

If it’s Taylor you mean they are obv not going mad immediately as it’s a TV album track so are holding off by C Listing it, it’ll make its way to the A List in the next two weeks!

Radio 1 playlisting will help The Beatles career immensely

 post of the year!

I don’t think this could be further from the truth. A lot of young people appreciate music from acts like the Beatles and other older artists. The kids I speak to in school who would actually list music as an interest listen to all sorts. It’s just not what Radio 1 think young people would be into.

I imagine there’s lots of young people that listen to older artists but R1s focus is on music for 15-30 year olds and it’s basis is in ‘new music we trust’ so The Beatles unfort don’t meet the second requirement there.

There is bugger all chance of Now and Then being playlisted (although I did say that about Padam Padam, however that was a dance track which they'd have been all over it if was by a younger/newer act) but hoping this gets enough spot plays/chart plays to feel like it's an unofficial part of the playlist anyway. Looks like it had another play this afternoon so that's four!

Technically it is new music though having only been released two days ago. This is a FACT.

The 'In New Music We Trust Stage' name at Big Weekend was last used in 2016, then it became 'Where It Begins' in 2017, 'Radio 1's Other Stage' in 2018, 'The 1 for New Music Stage' in 2019 and the 'Future Sounds Stage' in 2022!

Of course it’s new music but it’s the artists it meant to highlight as new and emerging artists.

Gosh 'In New Music We Trust' is a throwback, they haven't used that tagline since they revamped the C List

I always associate that tagline with Zane Lowe and he hasn't been at R1 for a good few number of years now!

I remember 'where it begins' #whooOOoo

Anyway, anyone who has been around over ten years is in the Radio 1 firing line unless they remain Sheeran/Swift-level HUGE. I wonder how long the Arctic Monkeys can get away with putting lounge music on Radio 1 now they're almost twenty years in. One flop era and they're gone! The Beatles split up 53 years ago. Still amazed they caved in with Padam Padam as they're normally as stubborn as feck with things like that. I reckon it will be unofficially playlisted/get a lot of spot plays like Kate Bush did last year if its streaming numbers don't go off a cliff. Friday's streaming numbers were huge but how many were curiosity plays and can they keep it up? They wasted a lot of physical and digital sales by releasing on Thursday afternoon. In any case, I'm upgrading my prediction from Top 20 to Top 10.

I do get the argument for playing things by veteran acts if they get particularly big though, people want to hear them alongside all the other chart hits and not just on Radio 2 next to a load of old songs. Especially in this climate where it seems young people are more enthusiastic about their parents'/grandparents' favourite artists than ever.

But they playlist older artists all the time. That’s what we get told whenever anyone complains that they don’t playlist older artists.

Look, I don’t expect them to playlist the Beatles. I’m just pointing out the facts and that is that lots of young people like the Beatles and stream them. It’s ageism to assume they don’t.

I wonder when Adam and the Ants were last played on Radio 1?! Actually I have last.fm pro so can actually find out within moments. It's more interesting than it sounds.

They were most recently played on Radio 1 on the 18th November 2020 at 3:22am with that very song! Radio 1 definitely prefers dance music when it comes to stuff from the 80s and 90s. When I do this with a Championship-level indie band that was big in the 90s or early 00s like Starsailor, it normally turns out that they haven't been played since about 2012. Which coincidentally is when Moyles left. Not saying there's a correlation, but...

It's always going to be a tough balancing act between supporting/reflecting the ongoing success of acts with lots of commercial longevity and promoting new ones, which is one of its main duties. I'd say they do well really.
