December 8, 20231 yr Without knowing anything about this planned release or any of these people it strikes me that their audience might not be the sort to buy music, and presumably they’ll be chasing sales rather than streams, but we’ll see.
December 8, 20231 yr And everyone here cheered when Ladbaby said they weren't releasing, grass isn't always greener :P Well this would still be better than LadBaby x
December 8, 20231 yr The OCC have done a write up of Sleaford Mods' version of West End Girls being a contender. Proceeds are going to the charity Shelter. https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/s...stmas-number-1/
December 8, 20231 yr Will a bunch of TikTok influencers really do 60k+ downloads? I'm sure it will chart somewhere but will that many people actually care. LadBaby was tapping into a different market, I know the FYP has bias but from what I saw last year must people were dragging it on there. I still think it's one of the old classics by default and most likely Wham! unless an organized campaign behind the Pogues can be pulled off.
December 8, 20231 yr I wouldn't normally want a bunch of TikTok people to have a Christmas number 1 but if it happens, it will be a fourth Roy Wood written chart topper. The first one was in 1969 and then two more in 1973.
December 8, 20231 yr I've parted ways with TikTok as I was spending far too much time on there but Jess and Norma, The Famileigh, Yorkshire Peach, The Nursey Nurse, Ann Russell (queen), Rossi D Woods, Phil Carr, Richard Franks (DAAAAVIIIIDDD :kink:), John Reynolds and Gavin Wren are all names I recgonise. Some of these have millions upon millions of followers so I think if they're all going to collectively promote this release they've got the #1 in the bag.
December 8, 20231 yr Yeah they only just managed to surpass that on actual Christmas chart week last year, I have a feeling sales for all the old playlist hits are gonna be way up, could be above what LadBaby's total was last year. The Pogues 13k behind this week, so within reality that they could do it IF there was a big enough and well organised campaign. But I won't hold my breath. :(
December 8, 20231 yr Have to consider that Wham! will have physicals on Christmas week too. I think the Pogues could maybe do 25k downloads with a good campaign. Not sure if it’ll be enough tho
December 8, 20231 yr Depending on what you mean by 'worked' (not sure if you mean going all the way to #1 or just making any sort of chart impact), there was The Krown Jewelz' single that made the top 10 this year. The Sidemen did a decent job of it last Christmas. Didn't get the number 1, but Christmas Drillings already has more Spotify streams than LadBaby's entire career. What was really notable about The Krown Jewelz success was how much of it was fuelled by Bandcamp sales. They did very little on iTunes, but shifted thousands on Bandcamp! December 10, 20231 yr The TikTokers will reveal the pre-order link on Tuesday, but like LadBaby, they are misleadingly claiming that 'all proceeds' (not profit) will be donated to charity. It really irks me when wealthy people use charity as a way to butter up their own image. Edited December 10, 20231 yr by Chloe🎄
December 10, 20231 yr With that audience pushing their campaigns back and those who follow Kunts pulling their campaigns forward... makes me think they're all going to be rallying for The Pogues to be Christmas #1. Also... can they not target that week please? Coz I find the first chart of the new year to be the most exciting because lots of hits that get lost "in the Christmas shuffle" all come forward and become the hits they should legitimately be! A lot of "resets" of songs that don't need to be reset, sure, but also lots of songs that got denied what would be new peaks if there weren't so many Christmas songs around... I know it's just the one song but it's annoying when it's usually the chart I look forward to the most tbh. I always find it a boring week tbh as most of the returning hits are songs from Sept/Oct/start of November which seem ancient by the start of January! It’s usually the 2nd week of the year when genuine new songs start to gain momentum!
December 10, 20231 yr The TikTokers will reveal the pre-order link on Tuesday, but like LadBaby, they are misleadingly claiming that 'all proceeds' (not profit) will be donated to charity. It really irks me when wealthy people use charity as a way to butter up their own image. Saying "this song is for charity!" never screams quality in terms of the song, either. About 1 in 50 are actually any good.
December 11, 20231 yr Doesn't Mariah normally overtake Wham at some point? no it’s usually Mariah who starts ahead and gets overtaken by Wham this year Wham were just ahead all the time
December 12, 20231 yr It does feel fairly wide open at the moment because there's no real way of telling how the TikTok Creators will do, there's no way of knowing how much a download campaign can be whipped up for The Pogues (do they really only need 20k-ish extra sales, that does sound quite achievable??), and it's hard to know how many physicals Wham! will shift. Also, if an already high charting song got a high profile remix (e.g. a potential Olivia feature on Stick Season), then that could suddenly become a contender too. I haven't actually put any money on it this year yet because I'm not certain enough on any of the contenders.
December 12, 20231 yr Oh well, I've put three mini bets on now: £3.79 on Noah Kahan at 66/1 (William Hill capped my bet at this, I tried to put on £10??) £3 on Creator Universe at 13/8 £3.21 on Wham! at 9/2 Watch it just be The Pogues now, but I can bear a £10 loss.
December 12, 20231 yr I have £20 on Noah at 50/1 on Bet365. Putting all my eggs in his basket :P Edit: right after I placed my bet he’s now 25/1! Edited December 12, 20231 yr by No Sleeep
