Thanks to the 58 people who participated in the last poll before the impromptu hiatus :jump:

Official results from week 39:

[ 35 ] Kylie Minogue - Hold On To Now (#81)

[ 26 ] Troye Sivan - Got Me Started (#56)

[ 17 ] Tom Odell - Black Friday (#21)

[ 14 ] blink-182 - ONE MORE TIME (#28)

[ 14 ] Doja Cat - Agora Hills (#29)

[ 11 ] blink-182 - MORE THAN YOU KNOW (#99)

[ 5 ] Nines - Daily Duppy (#20)

[ 4 ] Headie One, K-Trap and Clavish - TRIPLE THREAT (#31)

[ 4 ] G-Eazy - Tumblr Girls (feat. Christoph Andersson) (#98)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 39 and auto-qualifying for the September monthly round is Kylie Minogue - Hold On To Now.

Helped by a bit of light brigading, this poll from a little while back now (oop x) was another comfortable win for Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue who continued to impress in the charts by landing a third concurrent top 100 hit from her 16th album 'Tension' upon the release of the album. I don't think 'Hold On To Now' was technically a single yet as of the album release but it did serve as the 'focus track' on the New Music Friday playlist and the likes, enough for it to make a brief appearance in the low top 100. This makes her 3 for 3 on poll wins this year following both of the pre-album singles 'Padam Padam' and 'Tension', her joining Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo in the 3 wins club. This track picked up support from just over 60% of voters and won by 9 votes over the closest competition, fellow Australian Troye Sivan. 6 out of 9 tracks managed to reach double figures, with third placed Tom Odell's big comeback hit landing another 9 votes behind Troye, blink-182 taking 4th and 6th place with their pair of singles and Doja Cat's most popular album track (since promoted to single status) also tying for 4th.

The also-rans are all the male rap tracks as per usual, with Nines having the slight edge and just about making it to the 5 vote mark with his track which is the highest charting Daily Duppy to date. The UK drill collaboration that I'm sure some people were asking for from Headie One, K-Trap and Clavish shares last place with the inexplicably viral old G-Eazy track which thankfully disappeared as quickly as it appeared.

Apologies for falling off the face of the planet for a while, time to catch up with these polls again - not going to try and catch up with everything at once as there are now 7 weeks of charts since the last one of these I did  so am going to cover 2 or 3 weeks per poll for a few weeks until we're caught up, which should be by the end of the year if I can stay consistent again now. I suppose the delay has given you all a bit more time to be more familiar with these songs, although I imagine quite a few of these are already quite long forgotten  but the extra familiarity may be a help to a certain song that's gone on to become a top 5 hit ~

2 weeks covered in this poll which are the first 2 charts from October, week 40 has 10 songs totalling 29 minutes and 7 seconds and week 41 has 14 songs (15 tracks included on the playlist as there was another Noah Kahan track which charted partly because of a new version with Kacey Musgraves - when we get to 'Northern Attitude' I'll probably only include the Hozier version as that was the overwhelmingly more popular one but I think it's a bit less clear with this one) totalling 49 minutes and 54 seconds.

I've got a bit out of the habit of making these threads so hopefully I didn't forget anything, let's stay back in the loop now xx

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

I'll aim to get the next round up on Monday evening which will probably just be covering the other 2 October charts. Also finally dropping the September monthly round alongside this thread and will plan to leave that running for 2 weeks then will be able to move straight onto the October round after that.

My votes from the last poll as I didn't post them yet ~

1 'Agora Hills' 9.5/10

2 'Black Friday' 9/10

3 'Daily Duppy' 9/10

4 'Got Me Started' 8.5/10

5 'ONE MORE TIME' 7.5/10

6 'Hold On To Now' 7/10

7 'TRIPLE THREAT' 7/10

8 'MORE THAN YOU KNOW' 6/10

9 'Tumblr Girls' 2/10

'Agora Hills' benefited greatly from me waiting so long to actually vote in the poll as it grew on me a lot with a few more listens (and watching the music video), went from being one of my least favourite songs on her album to one of my favourites, the bits I found jarring on first listen (the accent in the verses + the spoken word sections) have just stopped bothering me and I can appreciate it for the great chorus and production and just having a kind of intriguingly sinister vibe, very interesting song ~ A high quality week in general though, voted for my top 5 there, the Tom Odell song is quite a stunner (the verses remind me a bit of Radiohead's 'Creep') and I can see why the Nines track did so well compared to other Daily Duppys as I think it is probably the best release I've heard from the series, great bars throughout and really nice production too. I really disagree with people saying the sample in 'Got Me Started' doesn't work, I think it's integrated pretty seamlessly personally (helps that I do really like the original song so it's good to see it becoming a hit in some form and the song doesn't completely rely on it, Troye's original parts are great too). 'ONE MORE TIME' is not necessarily a song I'm racing to replay but for what it is I think it is a very well made and emotional track that fits the circumstances of its release perfectly. The other blink song didn't connect with me quite the same way, it's an ok high energy track but nothing amazing, the vocals do border on a little annoying at times. 'Hold On To Now' is my favourite of the 3 songs that charted from the Kylie album but it's still just a fairly good synthpop song, not really connecting with me too much. 'TRIPLE THREAT' has grown on me since first hearing it on the Headie/Trapo mixtape but still not quite vote worthy as it's heavily carried by an admittedly great verse from Headie and the production, K-Trap and Clavish both deliver verses that are just ok and that's 2/3 of the song since they didn't bother putting a hook on this one. G-Eazy unsurprisingly the stinker of the week, I did actually think at first it might not be too bad as I do like the instrumental but it went rapidly downhill and into cringe territory the second Gerald opened his mouth. And then it just becomes boring for the last minute or so.

:cheer: I actually went through the last few charts at the end of last week to catch up on all the songs I didn't know, so can vote readily!

Week 40: voted for Noah Kahan only

Week 41: voted for JENNIE and Joel Corry

My votes would have been the same if done the week these songs entered. 'You & Me' was surprisingly instant for me. I almost added the similarly named 'Me & U' although it hasn't left as much of an impression as I thought.

Week 40

Jung Kook - 3D (feat. Jack Harlow) (#5) - pretty catchy i must admit

Ed Sheeran - American Town (#27) - hook is ok but the rest is nothing

163Margs - Hide And Seek (feat. Digga D) (#38) - rubbish

Ed Sheeran - Magical (#49) - nothing magical about this whatsoever

Jorja Smith - Feelings (feat. J Hus) (#50) - nice silky vibe to this one

Dominic Fike - Babydoll (#63) - blink and you miss it mediocrity

Noah Kahan - Stick Season (#69) - beyond terrible, paperthin voice

PinkPantheress - Mosquito (#74) - good beat to this, better than most of her top 40s

Ed Sheeran - England (#84) - this whole project showed his versatility but the quality is severely lacking

Blanco - Brilliant Mind (#87) - sounds like a thousand other songs we've already head this year

Voted Jung, Jorja & PP.

Week 41

Drake - First Person Shooter (feat. J. Cole) (#4) - sounds like a bit of rehash of a lot of his other stuff with the predictable production switch in the second half

Drake - IDGAF (feat. Yeat) (#5) - powerful production on this one carries the song

Drake - Virginia Beach (#6) - this is amazing, the best track i've heard from the album

Lovejoy - Normal People Things (#27) - instrumentation is good, not keen on the vocals

Nines - I Do (feat. Tunde and Mugzz) (#35) - i don't

Nines - Toxic (feat. Bad Boy Chiller Crew) (#37) - this is a good'un

JENNIE - You & Me (#39) - a punchy pop effort, pretty nice!

Tems - Me & U (#41) - issa vibe~

Joel Corry - Hey DJ (#59) - such a shameless trendhopper it's actually funny, good trend though - surprised this never went top 40!

Digga D - TLC (#60) - nothing to it

James Arthur - Just Us (#81) - yawn

blink-182 - DANCE WITH ME (#85) - decent, but the olé's get annoying

K.A.D and Kak Hatt - Just How You Like It (#86) - we already have tom zanetti, we don't need another rip-off

Noah Kahan - She Calls Me Back (w/ Kacey Musgraves / solo) (#95) - actually the song isn't bad, but the singers are the problem

Never noticed You & Me and ME & U entering in the ame week at the time  voted Drizzy x2, Nines, Jennie, Tems & Joel.

Week 40

1. Blanco - Brilliant Mind

2. 163Margs - Hide And Seek (feat. Digga D)

3. Jorja Smith - Feelings (feat. J Hus)

4. Noah Kahan - Stick Season

5. Ed Sheeran - American Town

6. PinkPantheress - Mosquito

7. Dominic Fike - Babydoll

8. Jung Kook - 3D (feat. Jack Harlow)

9. Ed Sheeran - Magical

10. Ed Sheeran - England

I don't remember a lot about some of these. But I did rank them at the time.

Voting for the top 3. 'Brilliant Minds' has a great beat and I always enjoy Blanco's flow. 'Hide And Seek' is one of the better drill efforts of the year. You know what you’re gonna get from a Digga verse. 'Feelings' is one of the best songs from Jorja's album but I was still expecting a little more from it.

'Stick Season' is definitely one of Noah's more interesting efforts and 'American Town' is actually ok from Ed. It’s not my sort of thing but I’d much rather hear this type of song from him compared to the ballads with nothing memorable like most of what I heard from ‘-‘. The other Ed Sheeran tracks not so much.

Week 41

1. JENNIE - You & Me

2. Digga D - TLC

3. K.A.D and Kak Hatt - Just How You Like It

4. Tems - Me & U

5. Nines - I Do (feat. Tunde and Mugzz)

6. Noah Kahan - She Calls Me Back (w/ Kacey Musgraves / solo)

7. Nines - Toxic (feat. Bad Boy Chiller Crew)

8. Drake - First Person Shooter (feat. J. Cole)

9. Drake - IDGAF (feat. Yeat)

10. Drake - Virginia Beach

11. James Arthur - Just Us

12. blink-182 - DANCE WITH ME

13. Joel Corry - Hey DJ

14. Lovejoy - Normal People Things

Voting for the top 2 this week. I've been waiting for 'You & Me' to be released since Jennie performed it on the BORN PINK tour last year and the studio version did not disappoint. I'm also really liking the sound from Digga on 'TLC'.

'Just How You Like It' is what Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Tom Zanetti & HSTikkyTokky wish they were! 'Me & U' is pleasant but hasn't fully hit me yet. 'She Calls Me Back' is Noah's best so far and Kacey sound really nice on the remix.

I wasn't massive on 'I Do' on first listen but the chorus has got stuck in my head. 'Toxic' could have been worse with BBCC on it.

Out of the Drake tracks, Cole saves 'First Person Shooter' but it's still not the song I was hoping for. 'IDGAF' is just a Yeat song with a small feature from Drake. It sound like a boring Travis Scott song. 'Virginia Beach' is Drake at his most dull.

I find Lovejoy so cringy. It’s just some posh boys trying to make old Arctic Monkeys songs without any of the nuance.

Week 40:

1. Noah Kahan - Stick Season

2. Dominic Fike - Babydoll

3. Ed Sheeran - England

4. Ed Sheeran - American Town

5. Ed Sheeran - Magical

-

6. PinkPantheress - Mosquito

7. Jung Kook (feat. Jack Harlow) - 3D

8. Jorja Smith (feat. J. Hus) - Feelings

9. Blanco - Brilliant Mind

10. 163Margs (feat. Digga D) - Hide And Seek

Week 41:

1. blink-182 - DANCE WITH ME

2. Noah Kahan - She Calls Me Back

3. Lovejoy - Normal People Things

4. JENNIE - You & Me

-

5. Drake (feat. Yeat) - IDGAF

6. James Arthur - Just Us

10. K.A.D & Kak Hatt - Just How You Like It

New poll up later tonight, we have fewer voters than usual so hopefully a few more this evening  (I guess this isn't the most compelling set of songs tbf lol). Looks like based on the midweeks the coming week is at risk of having 0 new entries, or maybe just 1, that'd help with catching up I suppose

My votes:

Week 40

1 'Mosquito' 10/10

2 'Stick Season' 8.5/10

3 '3D' 8/10

4 'Magical' 8/10

5 'Hide And Seek' 7.5/10

6 'England' 6.5/10

7 'Babydoll' 6/10

8 'Brilliant Mind' 6/10

9 'Feelings' 5/10

10 'American Town' 3/10

Voted for the top 5. Whipping out a rare 10/10 (only my 4th of the year I think? although tbf this song has had time to grow on me as I've heard it a few times already, probably a few of my other 9.5/10s would be upgraded to 10/10 by now x), 'Mosquito' just feels like PinkPantheress perfecting her formula, a quintessential melancholy banger  Glad to have found a Noah Kahan song that I can properly get into now (and rightfully now becoming his biggest hit) as I did think his other hits showed potential. '3D' is a good Timberlake pastiche with a nice and fitting contribution from Jack Harlow, wish this was the one that had the success 'Seven' had but alas. Ed's album had its moments for me but only one of my standout tracks was among the ones that charted, 'Magical' was a really nice opening track for the album, 'England' is pretty by-numbers though and 'American Town' rubs me the wrong way a bit, it's quite cringe lyrically, it is an earworm but if anything I kind of wish it wasn't as I'd rather it just be forgettable :kink: 'Hide And Seek' is a solid short but sweet drill banger which Digga D doesn't embarrass himself on. 'Babydoll' is ok but it definitely does feel like a demo (which it literally is tbf), a bit of an odd one to go viral but why not. 'Brilliant Mind' also ok but nothing new. I thought 'Feelings' was one of the weakest songs on Jorja's album, it's pleasant enough but feels like it drags on a bit (and J Hus' hook reminds me a little too much of B Young lol).

Week 41

1 'First Person Shooter' 9.5/10

2 'IDGAF' 8.5/10

3 'Me & U' 7/10

4 'DANCE WITH ME' 6.5/10

5 'She Calls Me Back' 6.5/10 (6/10 for solo version)

6 'Normal People Things' 6/10

7 'Hey DJ' 5.5/10

8 'I Do' 5/10

9 'TLC' 5/10

10 'Toxic' 5/10

11 'Virginia Beach' 4/10

12 'Just Us' 2.5/10

13 'You & Me' 2/10

14 'Just How You Like It' 0/10

Pretty bad week, only voted for the top 2 - 'First Person Shooter' was my immediate fave from the Drake album, great production and Cole feature and I do actually think Drake does great on it as well especially after the beat switch (sure there are a few corny lyrics here and there but nothing that ruins the song for me). 'IDGAF' was more of a grower so like with 'Mosquito' it gets a higher score than it probably would have done if I posted these polls on time, I have always found Yeat's music to be commendably weird but this is the first time a song from him (and let's be real this is more of a Yeat song than a Drake one) has really clicked with me beyond that fascination. Drake's verse is whatever but at least he had the courtesy to keep it brief. Not that the chart show actually played it but I love that the intro sample appears on a UK top 5 hit as well. Those 2 songs were both highlights of a largely mid album which is more reflected by 'Virginia Beach' which has a decent instrumental but is otherwise really tedious and actually has got worse for me with repeated listens. 'Me & U' is a really nice vibe but not quite one that I'm rushing to come back to. 'DANCE WITH ME' has good energy to it but the chorus is quite underwhelming and the vocals are pretty bad at points, there was a great song in this somewhere but not in this form. Kacey Musgraves' contribution definitely elevates this Noah track but overall it's back to another one from him that's not fully clicking with me. 'Normal People Things' is a perfectly serviceable indie song which mostly doesn't make me cringe which is quite a feat for Lovejoy, and 'Hey DJ' is a decent enough if unremarkable crack at the trance revival trend so above average for Joel Corry too. After how much I enjoyed his Daily Duppy I'm a little disappointed that both of Nines' other charting hits of the era are pretty firmly mid, the verses on 'I Do' are ok but the chorus is very nothingy so not a good first impression of this Mugzz guy. 'Toxic' has more lively production but again a very mid hook and forgettable verses. 'TLC' is an odd one as it has both some good moments where Digga finds a compelling flow and some obligatory terribly cringe bars, but most of the song is just pretty bland so it all averages out to mid as well, not a great week for the UK rap offerings. Though they are all at least infinitely better than whatever the absolute fuck that K.A.D/Kak Hatt thing was which I don't even want to dignify, it really is like the worst of Bad Boy Chiller Crew except somehow amplified 10x, 'Don't You Worry About Me' I forgive you. 'Just Us' is the worst song I've heard in quite some time from James Arthur unfortunately, very plodding and with some painful vocals at times. 'You & Me' is mostly just boring but bumped down to outright bad territory for me as I find whatever the instrumental is doing in the chorus sounds really unpleasant and I'm not sure how I've not seen anyone else comment on that?

This double feature was hard work, hopefully we're out of the trenches for the next one. Voted PinkPantheress in the first poll and Drake/Yeat in the second one.
