Giving Gracie a listen now - I'm quite liking it! I always like a hopeful guitar-led song and his voice is fab as well. Think it might grow as well so I'll stick it on my playlist.

Loving so many of the songs here so far! Always here for the Sugababes (especially Boys, such a fun bop!) and a few Ava Max tracks. Solo from Eurovision was iconic and Bizarrap/Shakira was pretty much inescapable for me!

my faves from the most recent sections:

231 David Guetta, Anne-Marie & Coi Leray - Baby Don't Hurt Me

236 Lady Gaga - Bloody Mary

238 Kenya Grace - Strangers

225 Bizarrap & Shakira - Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53

226 Alessandra - Queen of Kings

213 Leigh-Anne feat. Ayra Starr - My Love -> this deserved a bit more than what it got, the sound suited her more than Don't Say Love

203 Dua Lipa - Dance the Night

182 Peggy Gou - (It Goes Like) Nanana -> yayy! this will appear a lot higher for me unsurprisingly, what a tune.

180 Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday Girls -> this may well be Nicki's best in a while, quite a fun song here albeit very much helped by sampling one of my fave 80s pop hits

160 Coi Leray - Players

Thanks so much Dan!! Fully agree re My Love, Don't Say Love lacked an identity to me so more of the My Love sound please! Pink Friday Girls is definitely one of my favourite Nicki songs of recent times *.*

Glad you like it Pete! I think you'd probably enjoy a lot of Will's stuff, his music's often quite uplifting and chirpy.

141 Anson Seabra - Supposed to Be a Love Song | 7-10-14-21-30-39-x

142 Paloma Faith - How You Leave a Man | 20-9-19-22-37-40-x

143 Conan Gray - Winner | 4-8-19-28-39-x

144 JayXander - If We Don't Last | 5-11-19-28-x

145 Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage - Creepin' | 38-6-12-26-x

146 Powfu & The Chainsmokers - fault in the stars | 7-9-12-26-34-x

147 Meghan Trainor - Mother | 34-33-14-7-15-29-x

148 Billie Eilish - What Was I Made For? | 20-9-13-29-38-x

149 Dua Lipa - Houdini | 6-8-15-29-39-x

150 Mae Muller - Me, Myself & I | 3-12-27-x

I have to make a confession. I really enjoy Mother by Meghan Trainor. It's just too much FUN. The sample is ridiculous, and I can see why it defies opinion, but it's just too infectious not to love! Sneaking into the top half, Mae Muller managed to follow up her Eurovision bop with another fab track, albeit one without the same legs. Nevertheless, Me, Myself & I is a big bop. Dua Lipa served a high energy banger at the end of the year, which debuted just ahead of the team-up between Powfu and The Chainsmokers, but the latter held up a little better and ends up just three spots higher here. On the topic of bops, Anson Seabra is most known for releasing ballads, but dialled the tempo up for Supposed to Be a Love Song, one of the most fun tracks on his latest album, while Paloma Faith makes her first appearance of two with the majestic How You Leave a Man.

On the other end of the scale, we have the beautiful, touching Barbie ballad from Billie Eilish. I'm mostly cold on Billie these days, but What Was I Made For? saw her achieve a long-awaited top 10 in my chart. Four other songs from the Barbie soundtrack remain in contention. Conan Gray's Winner was a traditional dramatic ballad, sandwiched between the two bops he delivered in 2023. The bops were better, but Winner was great as I've come to expect from Conan regardless. Metro Boomin's moody rework of I Don't Wanna Know brought out the best in The Weeknd and 21 Savage, all of whom scored their best performing hit (or tied in the case of The Weeknd), and JayXander returned with a solid midtempo that returned him to the top 5. Later singles haven't performed as well though!

131 Arden Jones - fvcked up | 6-13-17-28-39-x

132 Troye Sivan - Got Me Started | 13-12-7-27-16-24-29-38-x

133 Cheat Codes & Sam Feldt - You Don't Even Know Me | 30-21-10-7-14-…

134 Lancelot - I dina armar | 32-10-14-16-25-29-39-x

135 Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves - I Remember Everything | 28-x-25-17-8-13-…

136 ROLE MODEL - a little more time | 5-12-18-25-31-39-x

137 Jutes feat. Royal & the Serpent - Punkstar | 8-11-15-17-19-25-38-x

138 Eddie Benjamin - Over the Moon | 18-31-32-21-8-13-17-28-36-x

139 James Smith - Like a Record | 7-13-21-…

140 Jordan Suaste - 100 boys | 6-12-27-x

We see a few slow-burning hits in this section, including one that's still going. I'll likely allow Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves' brilliant team-up to feature again next year, but it spent much of its time building through 2023, becoming both artists' highest charting hit (and it's gone higher since post cut-off). Eddie Benjamin returned to the top 10 for the first time since 2022's Weatherman, but Over the Moon took five weeks to make it there. Troye Sivan's Got Me Started wasn't love at first listen for me like it was for some, but it did grow on me a fair bit even if it's a fair way behind the other singles from this era. Cheat Codes returned to the top 10 in week three of You Don't Even Know Me's chart run for their first top tier hit in over three years, and Lancelot took a couple of weeks to get going with I dina armar, though it was his best performing track since #2 hit Lyckligt slut, from 2022's Melodifestivalen.

More common in my chart though is the immediate hit, particularly as far as established artists go. Jordan Suaste followed-up the misery heavy sleep with a bop in the form of 100 boys, while Jutes blasted into the top 10 with all four of his 2023 singles. Punkstar marked a first top tier hit for Royal & the Serpent, and is Jutes' first song to drop of four. ROLE MODEL achieved a top 5 hit at the start of the year with the lush a little more time, James Smith built on his previous slow-burner to get a top 10 debut with Like a Record, and Arden Jones kicked 2023 off with one of his best songs to date in the form of fvcked up.

121 Caity Baser - Why Can’t I Have Two? (2468) | 8-16-19-26-33-x

122 Adrian Macéus - Die for You | 3-10-21-31-x

123 GUS - I Don't Kill | 7-17-20-33-36-x

124 Cub Sport - Songs About It | 10-16-26-16-26-x

125 Olivia Rodrigo - Can’t Catch Me Now | 19-35-24-19-8-9-17-…

126 Powfu & Lil Peej - eleanor & bellami | 4-…

127 Knox - Not the 1975 | 8-16-24-29-x

128 Thomas Headon - i loved a boy | 4-14-25-37-x

129 Selena Gomez - Single Soon | 3-6-18-22-34-x

130 Tom Odell - Streets of Heaven | 12-24-x-4-13-22-40-x

Another section, another Powfu drop, with recent hit eleanor & bellami providing a first hit for the terribly named Lil Peej. It's a catchy track though! Caity Baser's Why Can't I Have Two? spent a lot of time lodged in my head too, totally deserved to be a hit following the success of Pretty Boys. Knox delivered a big anthem in the form of Not the 1975 (it speaks highly of them, Whoddy, dw xx), and though it may be a little throwaway as far as pop tracks go, Selena Gomez dropped the playful Single Soon in late summer to immediate success in my chart, shockingly becoming her first top 10 in three years. Olivia Rodrigo tops out in this section as her Hunger Games single outdoes everything from her actual album era (though it peaked just one spot lower than vampire in my weekly chart).

2023 saw Thomas Headon hit the top 10 for the first time. i loved a boy looks deceptively like a coming out song, when it's written from the perspective of a female friend, but its euphoric pop vibes hit just the right spot regardless. Adrian Macéus also broke through in 2023, with Die for You being the follow up to his previous chart-topper. It's definitely the lesser of the two but both are strong tracks, and far better than the cove of The One and Only that followed after...! Cub Sport achieved two simultaneous top 10 hits when I discovered them, and Songs About It was the lower peaking of the two, but I love its bouncy dance vibes. GUS also hit the top 10 twice in 2023; slow-burning hit Big Things Small Seeds peaked lower but is considerably higher here than the still very good I Don't Kill. Finally, at the bottom end of the section, Tom Odell released a new version of his 2021 album track Streets of Heaven, already a beautiful track made even more bleak and raw in this new version. It's written from the perspective of a child murdered in a school shooting in the US, and is one of his most hard-hitting tracks. It finally became a top 10 hit in this new version.

My three favourites from Eurovision have all been since I last commented (Solo, Queen Of Kings & Unicorn).

It's been a while since I've enjoyed a single from Zara Larsson or Shakira but I loved 'Can't Tame Her' and 'Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53'. I'm so glad they brought them back to the official charts for this first time in a while too.

Love the two Dua Lipa tracks in 'Dance The Night' and 'Houdini' too. I'm very intrigued to hear what direction she's going to go with the upcoming album.

It seems to be a largely unpopular opinion in most places but I think that 'Mother' is one of Meghan's best ever singles. It seems to be one of the only times that she seems aware of what type of songs she's making. It's fun!

My other faves are Satellite, In The City, Karma, My Love, All Of The Girls You Loved Before, Vampire, Exes, Can't Catch Me Now and Single Soon

Thanks so much for the comments Lewis!! I can't lie, Shakira's mostly fallen off my radar nowadays, but it's good to see she's still got it.

Another Mother fan :cheeseblock: I couldn't agree more!!

111 P!nk - TRUSTFALL | 7-11-21-26-38-x

112 Stephen Sanchez & Em Beihold - Until I Found You | 7-7-17-25-31-x

113 Knox - Girl on the Internet | 6-11-20-25-33-…

114 Paloma Faith - Bad Woman | 4-11-15-24-…

115 GUNNAR - Fuck a Broken Heart | 29-14-8-13-17-31-x

116 Arden Jones - parachute | 4-11-19-…

117 Sugababes - Summer of '99 | 4-5-20-29-x

118 Anson Seabra - Kryptonite | 33-x-31-31-x-9-11-16-23-31-37-x

119 James Smith - Common People | 35-21-16-15-8-12-18-28-37-x

120 Will Linley - Tough (The Girls Song) | 40-26-20-17-13-9-12-16-28-37-x

With his first ever top 3 hit at the very end of 2023, Will Linley took a surprisingly long time to climb to the top 10 with follow-up single. Tough (The Girls Song) did make it in the end though and completed a really beautiful chart run of climbing to its peak, before dropping gracefully back down! James Smith did much the same with Common People. Having risen to fame on Britain's Got Talent, I knew James best for My Oh My, which I remember hearing live when he supported New Hope Club in 2021. Common People fared better than the #14 peak of My Oh My in my chart and became his very first top tier hit. Stephen Sanchez hit the top tier for the first time too, and its chart run doesn't really indicate it, but Until I Found You was a slow-burner for me too. I remember hearing it months before I first charted it in January 2023 and not being hugely sold, but the more I heard it, the more I liked it, and it was the duet version with Em Beihold that really captured my attention (and scored her a second top 10 hit). Its use in season 2 of Ginny & Georgia only boosted its showing in my chart!

After what felt like a long wait for a top 10 hit during his One Second of One Day era in 2020, GUNNAR made light work of it with 2023 release f*** a Broken Heart. With a pop/rock direction this time instead of pure pop, Gunnar (Gehl) feels much more at home, and this was the best song from his debut studio album. Anson Seabra took a bit of time to get into his stride with Kryptonite, but hearing it in a live setting was the boost it needed, and it kickstarted his current run of 5 top 10 hits and counting. Knox's current single Girl on the Internet is proving to be one of his most enduring hits so far, and Paloma Faith's Bad Woman is my favourite of the two singles so far from this era, but I really like both, she's on top form once again. Summer of '99 was one of the biggest bops on Sugababes' The Lost Tapes album, and I'd love to hear it live one day, while Arden Jones hit his highest position to date with his most recent single parachute. Finally, P!nk scored her highest charting song since 2019's Can We Pretend with the slick TRUSTFALL, a surprising change in sound that paid off hugely.

104 Taylor Swift - Cruel Summer | 28-x-22-14-10-11-15-26-33-x

105 Tom Odell feat. AURORA - Butterflies | 5-10-14-23-34-x

108 Arden Jones - not afraid at all | 10-14-9-14-21-27-39-x

109 Freya Ridings - Weekends | 3-11-20-24-39-x

110 Knox - Man Down | 4-11-17-23-22-x

We say goodbye to a few regulars on this final section just before the top 100. Knox's biggest hit of the year was Man Down, the fourth single from his I'm So Good At Being Alone? EP, and it was the only track he released in 2023 that made the top 5. Will Linley's highest of 2023 also peaked at #4, and although Maybe was shunted harshly downwards by S Club's tour boost, it maintained solid longevity in spite of that in the lower region of the chart. Arden Jones spent two weeks in my top 10 with the lively not afraid at all at the top of 2023, and despite it not being his highest peaker, it's my favourite song of his to date. This section also contains Taylor Swift's highest performing song of the year, but it's a track from 2019! Cruel Summer spent one single week in my top 40 at #28 when it first came out - not bad for a non-single - but returned for a much better run as it took over charts globally, finally hitting the top 10 and becoming the fourth top 10 from the Lover album.

On the contrary, Michael Aldag shows up for the first time. His most recent track december is the first to fall, but his five other (main) singles remain in the running. Addison Rae's poptastic I got it bad was a big triumph for me, and it rewarded her with her first top 5 hit. Freya Ridings also soared into the top 5 with the majestic Weekends, by far and away my favourite song from her Blood Orange album (though Lost Without You's EOY #42 position from 2018 remains her best showing). Jutes kicked the year off with Fingers, a great introduction to the guitar-heavy tendancies of his Ladybug era, and it came out the same week as Tom Odell's stunner Butterflies, which ends up a little higher here despite Fingers outcharting it at the time. Just missing out on the top 100 is a #1 hit, the first to drop! The Kid LAROI began 2023 by releasing the intro track from his debut album, lasting just 1 minute and 35 seconds (not the shortest #1 hit I've ever had). It's still a powerful track, and debuted at #1 in its own right, but ended up shunted off the album so didn't enjoy the same boost his other tracks received when THE FIRST TIME finally dropped.

100 Anson Seabra - Heartbreak Souvenirs | 4-11-17-x-37-x

So here we are, the top 100 tracks that defined my 2023. There's a few chart hits in this first section that will hopefully be known to most of you guys. I'd never disliked PinkPantheress' music, but I wasn't hugely taken by it most of the time either until I heard Pt. 2 of Boy's a liar. The guest verse from Ice Spice gives it that final spark needed to be an excellent song, and it became both artists' first hit in my chart! PinkPantheress hasn't charted again yet, but Ice Spice has two more hits still to feature. FLO hit the UK top 40 for the first time, and also my own chart, with the Missy Elliott interpolating Fly Girl, also including a new verse from Missy herself. It's a great rework of an iconic song, and I wish it had been a bigger hit! Tate McRae achieved a huge viral smash with the infectious greedy, which feels under-represented by its chart run for me (falling out from #13 was caused by S Club's tour boost, one of the many victims of that particular week!), but it has a worthy EOY top 100 position regardless. Also seeing the UK top 40 in 2023 was Morgan Wallen, whose personality I can't say I have any time for from what I've read, but Last Night was too good to resist and it hit my chart top 5 on its first attempt.

Away from the chart hits, Anson Seabra's Heartbreak Souvenirs immediately cemented itself as one of his best tracks with a lush melody and one of his best, most versatile vocal performances. It's his second highest track of the year. Griff returned with a low top 100 hit that deserved much more, with Vertigo building beautifully throughout! It immediately became her highest charting hit in my chart, and is her second EOY top 100 hit (One Foot in Front of the Other got to #80 in 2021). Jutes scored his highest peaking track of the year with Quitter, the third single from the Ladybug album, but the title track is still in the running here. Two tracks from The Kid LAROI's album feature in this section, with promotional track KIDS ARE GROWING UP first out. The song peaked at #3 when released as a promotional single, but only half of the song was released, titled "Kids Are Growing Up (Part 1)". The album saw the full song released, which is superior in my opinion, and it re-entered in the top 20 from the album boost. I THOUGHT THAT I NEEDED YOU debuted at #5 that week as my favourite song on THE FIRST TIME that wasn't previously released. Just weeks before, American rapper Matt OX hit my top 5 for the first time. I must admit, I don't think much of most of Matt's music (I follow him mostly for his cool hair), but I gave HOLD ME BACK a spin and really liked it! One of the most unique hits in my chart's history for sure.

82 Frank Walker feat. Ella Henderson - I Go Dancing | 4-11-20-24-34-x

83 TuralTuranX - Tell Me More | 13-3-10-19-27-38-x

85 Sarcastic Sounds - Haunt You Forever | 7-5-11-12-25-21-26-35-x

86 Boy In Space & Spencer Ludwig - Ciao | 4-6-9-11-13-24-39-x

87 Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj - Princess Diana | 20-9-9-5-15-21-33-x

88 glaive - oh are you bipolar one or two? | 36-31-20-10-14-17-30-x

89 Bianca & Clara Fable - Mad Man | 6-6-11-16-29-35-x

90 Reiley - Breaking My Heart | 5-12-25-29-40-x-31-6-14-25-35-x

A couple of Eurovision flops drop out in this section. I was really disappointed when Reiley, from the Faroe Islands but representing Denmark in the contest, didn't qualify to the final. It was never going to win, but clearly didn't resonate on the night of the semi-final sadly. Breaking My Heart remains a great song, and returned Reiley to my top 10 after two years. He has a much bigger hit still to come. I was less surprised when TuralTuranX didn't qualify with their lovely track Tell Me More. I heard the song for the first time on the night of the semi-final, and coming immediately after Loreen in the semi-final felt like it was killing its chances even more. Nevertheless, I think it's a super cute track, and it leaves just two Eurovision songs in the running. As far as song contests go, there's also a BJSC hit, one of my final discoveries from the contest, in this section. Bianca and Clara Fable teamed up for a delightfully camp bop, which soared into my chart's top 10, become the first (and so far, only) hit for both artists.

Debuting weeks after the album's release, and taking another month to peak, glaive's suicide note turned album opener oh are you bipolar one or two? performs well as the lowest peaking song in my entire top 100. He has two more songs, both #1 hits, still to come. Jutes tops out here with his album's title track, just as Sarcastic Sounds begins his string of six appearances with his own album's title track (and the only one of his 2023 hits not to peak in my top 2). Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj teamed up for the first time this year on a remix of the former's Princess Diana, which proved to be a huge grower. I'd not heard the original version of the song, but Nicki is essential to it for me! Boy In Space enlisted trumpeter Spencer Ludwig for the breezy Ciao, which returned the latter to the top 10 for the first time in six years (but was more of a middling hit for the former). Two dance collabs close the section out, and though it wasn't one of her hits last year, I Go Dancing was my favourite Ella Henderson feature of 2023, and it gave Frank Walker a first hit. Rita Ora appears for the first time on Joel Corry collaboration Drinkin', which gave the latter his highest peaking song to date, and MK his first ever hit!

77 INNA & Stefflon Don - Yummy | 5-5-10-16-22-26-35-x

78 FIFTY FIFTY - Cupid | 23-22-5-4-14-17-28-32-x

79 Michael Schulte & R3HAB - Waterfall | 3-5-11-18-28-x

80 Charli XCX - Speed Drive | 38-37-x-10-8-11-21-32-39-x

Girl groups have dried up a little in mainstream pop music, but a couple still achieved big hits in my chart in 2023. Sugababes appear twice here with their best two tracks of the year. Victory was my first #1 of 2023 (and last of 2022 with a very late in the year release), and though it wasn't released as a single, it sees a good showing here in my EOY. It's just two spots above their actual new single from 2023, the lush When the Rain Comes, released to coincide with their O2 headline show, where I heard its very first live performance! I hope it's leading to a new album as I need more Sugababes in my life. From a veteran girl group, to a new one in FIFTY FIFTY who saw a chart breakthrough with the cute and irresistible Cupid after it went viral on TikTok. Globally, the "Twin Version" (entirely in English) was the hit version, though I personally prefer the original which contains a cool rap verse from one member. They have another song to appear from the Barbie soundtrack, which itself also has representation in this section from Charli XCX's Speed Drive. Initially I was lukewarm on Speed Drive, but after seeing it in the film, I just couldn't resist any longer and it still sounds so good to me.

Another #1 falls out from Robin Packalen, who topped my chart early in 2023 with his Eurovision potential track Girls Like You. It's no Hard to Love, but it's also underrated on here I feel! Michael Schulte scored his highest peaking single since 2014 #1 Rock and Scissors with the effortlessly catchy Waterfall (his first collaboration with R3HAB), and it's also his highest EOY position since Rock and Scissors too. INNA enlisted Stefflon Don for a remix of her song Yummy, and the result was pop perfection and the highest charting hit for the former. Anson Seabra also matched his personal best with Broken Boy, the lead single from his latest album, and after a slow start, Canadian artist GUS finally nabbed a top 10 peak in the busy summer period with the magical Big Things Small Seeds. Finally, Anne-Marie debuted and peaked at #3 with the divisive (but very fun) SAD B!TCH. It was her highest position of the year, but another #3 peaking hit remains in the countdown.

Will comment on the top 100 soon!

'boy's a liar' is the first PinkPantheress song I've loved too and 'greedy' was an amazing way to start this era for Tate.

'Speed Drive' felt like the perfect song for Charli to record for Barbie. The sample(s) work great!

I fully agree with you regarding 'Cupid', the original is so much better than the English version. It was great to see a K-Pop song hit the charts that wasn't by the two big groups or their members,

Loving 'i got it bad' and 'Cruel Summer' too

Thanks so much Rob!!

Cruel Summer definitely feels due for ACR now (for good), though I much prefer it to Is It Over Now? so I'm happier seeing Cruel Summer reset  totally agree with Pink Friday Girls being one of Nicki's best, I think it'll fare very well in next year's countdown!

Thanks so much Lewis!! I agree on all counts, especially glad to see another fan of the original Cupid. The Twin Version is fine but the rap verse adds that extra little spark!

70 david hugo - Strawberry Ice Cream | 3-3-26-15-25-33-x

This section's populated by artists who saw their biggest hits in 2023, which feels quite pleasing to see in a year where I feel like I didn't discover many new artists. I kicked 2023 off by finding Hate That I Need You by Adrian Macéus on New Music Friday Sweden. I checked it out on a whim and really enjoyed it, with it becoming my first new #1 of the year. He scored a follow-up top 3 hit and is very much on my radar still, but he's yet to release a body of work unfortunately. I charted david hugo on a couple of features in 2022, and checked out his own material which was fine but not amazing. The smooth Strawberry Ice Cream changed that in a big way in 2023, peaking at #3, outdoing both features with ease. David Kushner smashed into the top 10 with his global chart breakthrough hit Daylight, undoubtedly my favourite thing of his so far, even spending three weeks top 10 which is pretty great for a song that didn't make my top 5. After a minor chart hit in 2022, I stumbled back upon Italian popstar Albe, and the result was his then-most recent track, the boppy Così Come Sei, becoming his first top 10 hit, and the highest Italian language top 10 in my chart's history. After a breakthrough with Cupid, FIFTY FIFTY were quickly onto another hit with their Barbie soundtrack song which matched Cupid's peak, and gave Kaliii a first hit.

Among the more established names, The Kid LAROI completed a hat-trick of #1 hits at the top of the year with the long-awaited release of I GUESS IT'S LOVE?, a track that was teased as a potential single in 2022 instead of Thousand Miles. It was always confirmed to not feature on THE FIRST TIME, but its catchiness still led it to a #1 debut in my chart, even if it's not one of Laroi's biggest hits of the year. Powfu features two final times in this section, leaping onto KID E$s' depressing but vibey Troubles of Today to give the latter his first ever hit, whilst achieving his highest peak of the year with Ouse and Snøw on welcome to my world, one of Powfu's more uptempo tracks with some of his best production. Alec Benjamin returned with a top 3 hit (unluckily against two bigger releases), marking his first appearance of two this year, while Tom Odell's viral hit Black Friday returned him to the UK top 40 and to my top 3, his highest peaking hit of 2023.

59 Ryan Beatty - Ribbons | 12-22-3-8-14-23-26-32-x

60 Henry Moodie - eighteen | 2-6-11-20-27-39-x

A handful of artists in this section arrive for their first and only appearance in 2023's countdown. Ryan Beatty returned to my top 10 after an eight year absence with the stunning Ribbons, the lead single and highlight from his latest project Calico. His previous top 10 hit was a belated top tier peak for debut release Hey L.A., a much poppier and early Bieber-esque track, wildly different to this track. Miles Wesley only dropped one song in 2023, the unusually titled ButterFace Tiffany, missing out on the top spot to The Kid LAROI's LOVE AGAIN, but it continued his run of top 10 singles that now dates back three years. I'm not sure if Miles is actively working on music now, but I do hope he'll find his way back there soon. ButterFace Tiffany only just beat Latto's Lottery to the #2 spot, where it would've been her outright highest peaking song. Instead, it matches Big Energy's peak, but falls quite some way short of its #6 EOY position from last year. re6ce saw a last minute top 20 hit in 2022, having landed on my radar after a support slot on glaive's tour earlier that year. He returned in 2023 with a big hit, and an almost-#1 in the really catchy angels, his first (and so far only) top 10 entry.

After five previous appearances between #192 and #293, 44phantom's highest performing song ends up significantly above the rest. I'd checked out one or two of his songs beforehand, but hurricane was what really got me into his music. It became one of the year's earliest hits, peaking at #2 at the top of the year (behind Adrian Macéus' Hate That I Need You, which it actually ends up above here). Henry Moodie also tops out here with eighteen, over a hundred places above his next highest song (fight or flight, #183). I heard him play it live when supporting The Vamps in late 2022 and it was immediately my favourite of his, so it wasn't a shock that it's by far his highest peak in my chart. Delta Goodrem returned with a superb slice of 80s-influenced pop during the summer, peaking at #3 behind the unmoveable S Club and Sarcastic Sounds (who locked out the top 2 for four weeks), and Conan Gray was very much embodying that same decade of music with a couple of his 2023 releases, particularly the excellent Killing Me, another song unlucky to be released during a very busy period! It's over 80 positions above his other #4 hit of the year, but he still has a chart-topper to come. Michael Aldag bookended the year with #3 hits, both wildly different in vibe. iaw ("internet attention whore") is loud, even obnoxious on purpose, and the result is one of his biggest bops. Just missing out on the top 50 is the highest entry for Cub Sport with the magical Hold, their biggest hit in my chart so far. Don't mention BJSC to me though. Just don't x

50 Averagekidluke feat. Boslen - Fuck the World | 10-13-12-8-7-11-15-24-30-x

The final section before we hit the top 40 sees a number of chart toppers drop out. Two from The Kid LAROI don't quite make it into the top 40, and both are three-way collaborations. TOO MUCH arrived first, breaking Laroi's silence to restart his debut album campaign with the help of Jung Kook and Central Cee, the former of whom achieved his highest peak as a solo artist, and the latter achieved his first hit ever. It was a similar story with the collaborators on WHAT'S THE MOVE?, a promo track that came just days before the album release. Future hit the top for the first time (his previous peak was the #10 peak of End Game), and BabyDrill charted for the first time. Four Laroi songs remain in contention! Another chart-topper losing out comes from Michael Aldag, who finally found himself back at #1 in my chart over a year after he first made it with the insanely catchy girlfriends, a song quite simply about someone who wants to have a load of girlfriends. It's actually outdone by one of Michael's #2 peaking tracks, smoothie, which was held off #1 by Sarcastic Sounds' Hero. Despite a quick departure from the top 10, it had a good run in my top 40 and is unlucky to miss out on my EOY top 40! Benson Boone also loses his first of his four 2023 singles, with the Slow Hands-esque Sugar Sweet being the first to drop.

Some near-misses also lose out here. Rita Ora released You Only Love Me against new singles from Laroi and Ruel, who took the top two spots, heaving her comeback single to peak at #3. Nevertheless, it was a big hit, but she has two bigger ones still to come. Anne-Marie also topped out at #3 with the country pop bop UNHEALTHY, which marked a first hit for Shania Twain, while Kylie Minogue loses the first of two #2 hits from 2023 in the form of her album's title track Tension, which lost out to Fred Roberts' Say. Loreen is another Buzzfave who missed out on my top spot, to her fellow Eurovision competitor Mae Muller, but Tattoo nevertheless became her highest peaking hit in my chart since 2012's Euphoria. Mae remains ahead in my EOY, and is the sole Eurovision song remaining. Among the near-misses is the second highest track not to peak in my top 5, from Averagekidluke, a Finnish singer and rapper who broke through in my chart in 2022. Fuck the World became his biggest hit to date in 2023 with two stints in my top 10.

'Until I Found You' is my favourite since I last commented - I prefer the original, although the Em Beihold version still has the fabulous harmonies on the chorus!
