To everyone saying The Killers will be #1 due to having a fan base, surely the whole point is a greatest hits doesn’t appeal to the fan base as they have all the songs?

Direct Hits only opened at #6.

'Direct Hits' still sold ~26k when it debuted at #6 though, the bar is lower this time.

Won’t all their streams double count for the original album and the greatest hits though? Like how The Weeknd and Elton John are always clogging the top 10 with their compilations

The streams of their catalogue are only enough for 'Direct Hits' to hang around in the lower quarter of the top 100 most of the time, the sales for 'Rebel Diamonds' should still be mostly physicals (then it'll probably just inherit the current run 'Direct Hits' has after a few weeks assuming the streams will now be allocated to this from now on, much like what happened with Foo Fighters swapping from 'Greatest Hits' to 'The Essential Foo Fighters').
There was a pre-sale tour code for albums bought as a pre-order! Killers will be no1 I’m sure.

I don't think it is a given The Killers will be Number 1 but will peak higher than Direct Hits which I believe is triple platinum

Unless I'm misremembering how it works, short of a sea-change, wouldn't "Direct Hits" re-usurp the streams in the long run? The new compilation doesn't have "Smile Like You Mean It" & "Shot At The Night" which kworb tells me are their 7th/10th most streamed songs on Spotify yesterday, with only "The Man", "Your Side Of Town", "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" and "Run For Cover" to compete with those (8th, 11th, 13th, 14th). Might be different on other platforms but "Smile Like You Mean It" is quite a way ahead of all those other songs.

Or is it just one of those deals where the label tells them which album to count for?

Unless the label's nominated one hits compilation to get the streams, they go to whichever has the highest pure sales in a week. The new one would likely be more well-stocked going forward so it should hang onto them for a while at least.
