Welcome to the results of the last quiz of the current season, which consisted of a series of prediction questions related to the chart of 15/12. I'll try and rattle through these quickly!

We had 15 participants in the end:

jimwatts

Bjork

JulianT

Maestro

LiamSime

Roba

rio309

Dobbo

LewisGT

Riser

chrissmith276

paulgilb

PeteFromLeeds

Jord

But whose predictive powers were the most impressive? Let's find out...

Q1. Who will have the #1 single?

Unsurprisingly, Wham! was the unanimous answer here, and... unsurprisingly, Wham! have this week's #1 one single! Which means that everyone is off to a 10-point start :cheer:

Q2. How many sales will the #1 single get?

Wham! got 48,643 sales at #1 this week, and everyone was in roughly the right ball park here, but the scores are awarded as follows:

jimwatts - 49152 (509 out) - 10 points

Bjork - 48000 (643 out) - 7 points

JulianT - 48000 (643 out) - 7 points

Was almost sure I was gonna win that one half way through the week purely due to having the lowest guess, sales ended up being a bit better than I thought, still not too bad.

Q4. How many Christmas songs will be in the top 100?

There were a total of 52 songs in the top 100 this week (less than most people predicted), as signified by the number of Christmas tree emojis in the top 100 sales thread (count them if you need to!)

A couple of people were only 1 away from the correct answer but JulianT was bang on with 52!

Q5. What position will 'Houdini' by Dua Lipa be?

'Houdini' was a non-mover at #31 this week (although without the Christmas songs she would have been #7 so I fully expect her to return to the top 10 in a couple of weeks).

No one got this one spot on, so no one gets the full 10 points. We had a handful of quite close guesses but also some which were wildly out!

jimwatts - 32 (1 out) - 7 points

Bjork - 33 (2 out) - 7 points

JulianT - 33 (2 out) - 7 points

Maestro - 28 (3 out) - 4 points

Apologies for running this on a Saturday night when not many people are around, but I'm going to leave it there for tonight. I'll pick this up again at some point tomorrow, although I've got a few things going on, so I can't say exactly when!
I did initially have Killers down but stupidly changed to Bublé oops. That'll teach me and was kinda expecting most of the regular chart hits to keep tumbling for some reason hence the 42 for Dua guess oops. Nevermind!
  • Author
I probably should have had a go at doing this myself before the results came in but I was thinking the same for Dua, I definitely would have predicted outside the top 40!
I'd've stolen 4 of PeteFromLeeds' points and gotten 10 points for the Killers so far had I submitted on time, not terrible but not a tragic loss so far, did terrible on nearly every other question if I'm not mistaken

Yeah, I've scored your predictions separately, I'll let you know at the end where you would have finished.

Q2. How many sales will the #1 album get?

Answer: more than I expected. Or to be more precise: 25,360. Closest this time was rio309, who was only 140 sales away! paulgilb, on the other hand, was clearly a little too optimistic.

rio309 - 25500 (140 out) - 10 points

Bjork - 24000 (1360 out) - 7 points

chrissmith276 - 27000 (1640 out) - 7 points

Maestro - 27000 (1640 out) - 7 points

Jord - 27000 (1640 out) - 7 points

JulianT - 28000 (2640 out) - 4 points

Dobbo - 18000 (7360 out) - 4 points

LiamSime - 17421 (7939 out) - 0 points

jimwatts - 16384 (8976 out) - 0 points

LewisGT - 16000 (9360 out) - 0 points

Roba - 15441 (9919 out) - 0 points

PeteFromLeeds - 15000 (10360 out) - 0 points

Riser - 15000 (10360 out) - 0 points

conorw - 14955 (10405 out) - 0 points

paulgilb - 43765 (18405 out) - 0 points

(Incidentally, only two people pick up 4 points here due to a three-way tie for the second set of 7 points).

The #10 album was Stick Season by Noah Kahan and it sold 6,821 this week. This time the 10 points go to Riser, who was only a measly 16 sales away! Everyone's guesses were within a 3 digit number away, except for Jord, who clearly got a bit carried away with this one!

Bjork - 6800 (21 out) - 7 points

jimwatts - 6912 (91 out) - 7 points

And finally...

Q5. What position will 'Midnights' by Taylor Swift be?

'Midnights' dropped three places to #16 this week, which was correctly predicted by two participants! Unsurprisingly, almost everyone scored points here for being within 5 positions of the correct one, it's just Jord who was once again overly optimistic with this one!

jimwatts - 16 (0 out) - 10 points

JulianT - 16 (0 out) - 10 points

rio309 - 15 (1 out) - 7 points

LiamSime - 14 (2 out) - 7 points

Maestro - 14 (2 out) - 7 points

LewisGT - 14 (2 out) - 7 points

PeteFromLeeds - 12 (4 out) - 4 points

paulgilb - 12 (4 out) - 4 points

Riser - 12 (4 out) - 4 points

Bjork - 12 (4 out) - 4 points

Dobbo - 12 (4 out) - 4 points

chrissmith276 - 11 (5 out) - 4 points

Roba - 11 (5 out) - 4 points

conorw - 11 (5 out) - 4 points

Jord - 8 (8 out) - 0 points

And that's your lot as far as the answers go! Results coming shortly.
