I think those sales are accurate it makes sense but yes Alexa has power I never imagined that is hard to believe but ACR a big factor too. Given it’s basically non existent today to play either song 2k is a pretty big lead

I mean Wham did 2.8m on Xmas day and 1m something on Xmas eve so it’s not hard to believe Amazon could do near that?

Spotify is the most popular music service by a long distance after that I’m pretty sure it’s apple so for Amazon to match both combined or even better them when you consider wham was played on Amazon too it doesn’t really make sense to me. I’m not sure how they do it or what is going on. If you just have Alexa and not Amazon music or prime then Alexa playing the song barely counts anyway so how they come up with these numbers is hard to fathom. I’m just going to assume a lot more people have prime and Alexa’s than I knew of

Sam made a big mistake goin for the xmas no.1, when it was a foregone conclusion. He shoulda sent out the cds this week.
It’s Crimbo limbo, what is Sam doing? He isn't trying to get more downloads.

Sam is on SCR, everything else is on ACR.

The raw play count of Sam Ryder's song was mentioned in an article last week and at that point his stream tally on Amazon was about on par with how Brenda Lee was doing on Spotify, I guess it's done a bit better since then as Amazon pushed it even more aggressively as Christmas approached.

I mean if Amazon are making Sam’s numbers up they’re doing a terrible job of it making him (probably) miss #1 by a small margin twice. :P

This was last week for comparison:

Last Christmas has amassed 4,810,928 streams already this week, compared to the tally of 2,272,231 for Sam Ryder’s You’re Christmas To Me at the same stage. There are 503 streaming chart sales between them.

If Sam doe it sure at least the OCC would investigate and cancel Alexa's shenanigans in the future hopefully

Alexa does not act like a proper real playlist

Like they did when Ellie got to #1 with River? :P

As fake and unethical it is, at least it provides fresh new Christmas hits each year which make the festive charts slightly less stagnant, and it makes for a good story so I don’t think the occ would do much
If the Highlights ends the year as the best selling album of the year, it will be the first time where an album which hasn’t reached #1 is the years biggest seller. I also remember LTWYL becoming the biggest single of 2010 even though it didn’t reach #1

LTWYL was a more genuine occupancy given that people were actually buying that song.

According to a UK government report, in 2021 Spotify made up 50-60% of the market, Amazon 20-30%, Apple 10-20%. I'd imagine Amazon's lead over Apple has only grown since 2021 as well, so it's certainly quite comfortably the 2nd largest service in the UK.

For some slightly less concrete evidence, a poll of essentially "which service have you used" also had Amazon comfortably in 2nd.
