April 11, 20241 yr Poor Jade with 5 in a row dropping out though! :o Oops   'Girl' is definitely one of my favourites from Rubber Soul so I'm glad it was included on the compilation - a pre-cursor of interesting soundscapes that would be more prominent on future albums.
April 11, 20241 yr Girl was probably the closest to making my votes out of those that have dropped out recently. Siouxsie's version of Dear Prudence is vastly superior to the original imo and it's not often you can say that about a Beatles cover.
April 11, 20241 yr Fully on board with the love of Siouxsie's take on Prudence, which is one of my favourite covers ever.

Darling erMgpfiOMSU Voters: Notorious D.O.T. 34 Brer 26 Chez Wombat 22 jimwatts 8 …ready for it 6 gooddelta 4 WhoOdyssey 4 A song written and led vocally by Paul, included on “Abbey Road”. It was a single in some countries but not the UK or US. It has more of a bluesy New Orleans inspired feel to it than most Beatles songs. Paul said he actually wanted the vocals on this to sound hoarse, and so he came into the studio every day for a week until his voice was tired. I think the end result works well - I like the contrast between his gruff style in the chorus and his smoother style in the verses.

A cover by Scottish band (The) Marmalade reached #1 in the UK. The Paul penned track has a Jamaican ska flavour. John reportedly disliked it, and it has been dismissed as a rather lightweight Beatles song. I loved this as a child and I still think it’s good fun although it didn’t make my votes.
April 12, 20241 yr Dear Prudence is a big loss Agree siouxsie did improve it but the original is still great
April 12, 20241 yr Author 64th: 125 points Got To Get You Into My Life r95-7zfgtLw Voters: WhoOdyssey 44 dandy* 43 popchartfreak 34 steve201 4 Another Paul track here, from 1966 included on “Revolver”. It’s a homage to the Motown sound with horn accompaniment. A cover by Cliff Bennett And The Rebel Rousers reached #6 in the UK. It’s certainly a very soulful song, and I like the contrast between the warm and lyrical verses and the agitated chorus. It had 3 very big fans here but very little else.
April 12, 20241 yr I quite like Oh Darling, even if not one of the best tracks on Abbey Road. Got a great doo-wop sound, Oblah-Dee Oblah-Dah isn't quite as bad as it's reputation suggests but definitely not an essential from them x
April 12, 20241 yr Ob la di a childhood fave and still fun. Got To Get You Into my life a resl loss though. A usa hit in 1976 while the uk opted for back in the ussr and the Motown vibes made it sound pretty cool even in the mid 70s

It was included on “Rubber Soul” in December 1965, and The Overlanders reached #1 in the UK with a cover in early 1966. I was fascinated by the French lyrics as a child, and I still think it’s a lovely wistful ballad with bursts of emotion in the “I love you…” sections.
April 13, 20241 yr NO WAY did Got To Get You Into My Life do so badly  It's so long since I voted that I couldn't remember whether some tracks were in this rate or not, so I was thinking 'When I'm 64' would have been a more appropriate song to leave at that point

On hearing the original lyrics Paul had written for the tune John dismissed them as “too soft” and they came up with the quirky car themed tale. The track combines a hard rock style vocal in the verses with an otherwise quite jazzy track. This is the first song to receive votes from more than half the participants, but didn’t make anyone’s top 20.
April 14, 20241 yr Michelle so low :o thought it was in the 10 most loved Beatles songs but alas... :D

Like the accompanying A side it features Billy Preston on keyboard. The lyrics are a direct plea from John to Yoko Ono. The instrumental sections, which I think are the strongest feature of the track, are inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s “Albatross”. They certainly have a similar warm and luxurious feel to them.

April 14, 20241 yr don’t let me down being that low is ridiculous probably would be fair bit higher if it were more well known as it has grown on me from being one of my piano teacher’s favourite songs to play at events
