I think what Vance actually said was that children should have a vote but that, until they reach voting age, the parents (not sure which one) would get to cast that vote. Anyone see how that might cause conflict in families? And that’s before you begin to look at how utterly undemocratic that would be.

Kamala's campaign seems to be off to a good start but as far as the polling goes it's more like she's just reset the clock back a few months (i.e. back to when Trump seemed to be a slight favourite but it being possible for the Democrats to turn it around, whereas in the last moments before Biden dropped out it was really starting to look like Trump was unbeatable) rather than truly flipping the script. Hopefully she can keep up the momentum with the upcoming convention / debates (if they happen). And I think if she picks Mark Kelly as her VP that might be a great strategic move.

It takes a couple weeks in the US foe the polling to filter through, so most od what we're seeing from the polling is from BEFORE Biden dropped out.

Come on Harris, can you imagine a year with Tories out and trump beaten… would be the best year in politics since… ever?

A lot of disgruntled US democrats on the US political forums I frequent. They're annoyed that they've been denied a proper choice and she's been just installed. They don't see her beating Trump anyway. She may not take the important mid-West swing states for the 270 EC votes she needs, unless she chooses her VP well. Has to be a white male to balance the ticket and preferably from a swing state.

 

I think she may win the popular vote like Hillary did but not the electoral college.

Nah I think the Dems have won this now, there’s too many extremists on both sides - many right leaning voters don’t like trump either imo!

It’s very hard to call. Kamala seems to have enthusiasm and momentum but it all feels very buzzfeedy to me. Will the average person trust people giving mean girl energy and calling people weirdos with the economy I don’t know. It can still go either way for sure

Calling Republican politicians weirdos (which they definitely are!) is certainly a much more effective strategy than the vague liberal civility that Biden went for, it gets certainly American voters far more invested and makes them think about the character of Trump and other Republicans which is of course not very nice.

 

At the moment it still looks close but I think there's a lot of room for Dems to really bring this race under control now.

One of the most promising signs that I've seen is a set of polls taken in New Hampshire. The first was taken back at the end of last month after that debate and it indicated a Trump lead of 2% - a new poll came in with about the same amount of participants (over 2000) and Kamala is leading by 6%. I know that New Hampshire is typically a Democratic leaning state but isn't this a good indicator to the whole country's reaction to her candidacy?

 

On another promising note, some Pennsylvanian polls have come in showing Kamala leading but it is very slight lead. I do think she will eventually be able to have a comfortable lead there without the assistance of Shapiro tbh. Mark Kelly definitely seems like the right choice now for VP considering Josh Shapiro's stance on Palestine that Kamala hopefully disagrees with (he apparently compared Pro-Palestine protesters to the KKK eep).

I'm torn because as most of you know I'm a big Trump supporter but would love to see a female President before I die. Wish Joe would hand over now.

 

This year if Trump weren't in, it would have been Nikki Hayley vs Kamala... Hillary broke down that feeling of impossibility. At some point there will be two women running for it.

Would be amazing to see the fall of the tories, the surprise win by Macron in France's snap GE when the right/far right were almost 100% to win and to have Kamala beat Trump for US president!

I don’t think the far right we’re certain to win, the whole political set up in most European countries is so the extremes don’t win post 1945. I would have been more surprised if the centrists failed to win tbh.

Trump has now said ro evangelicals somerhing like, vote now. Then you won't have to again in 4 years.

Scary stuff coming from Trump now - talking about people not having to vote in 2028. He's going to try and become a dictator, thankfully US security services should be able to stop him. This crap also ties in with Project 2025. Very scary.

With his supreme court, he can do anything. The German secret service did not srop Hitler eh. Control the courts, have a desdlocked legislature, control the executive, and tou can do what you like.

My interpretation is that he’s saying he’ll get everything done they want in four years. No matter what he meant or he thought he meant, it's very scary rhetoric, Hitler said similar things in the lead-up to the 1933 election. I don't think it can be understated that US democracy is seriously under threat if he wins, he's got the supreme court on his side (one can only hope Biden's last act actually does something to reform that). It stuns me that there are actually still people on the fence...

He's just a thoroughly disgusting human being inside and out, it eternally baffles me what anybody can find likeable or appealing about him.
