Austin must be close to entering right?

Yes must be around 120k with the bar at 122k, so we can expect that and Artemas next week.

Lewis Capaldi coming close to overtaking Mr Brightside on overall sales :o

Nah I don’t think so. Mr. Brightside is selling about 1-2k a week more so hopefully the gap will only get bigger.

Mr. Brightside has been ahead on the last two Year End lists now I believe.

Julian might be able to give a more accurate picture.

Hooray more new stuff replacing old stuff :cheer:

Feels like we are looking set for the ‘freshest’ year end chart in many years. Obviously a lot can change and I am sure those classics will maintain good numbers, but healthier sales at the top should give more current hits a better chance to stick around.

Agreed that this is looking like hopefully the freshest year end since 2020, hopefully the booting out of old songs can continue.

Almost a million for Stick Season already. Biggest YE #1 since Shape of You incoming?

I haven't checked previous years, but isn't it totally normal that older songs get kicked out early on in the year? They get by on steady performance (but also generally a strong January when there isn't much new stuff around) and can't keep up with songs that have a few months in the spotlight. As time goes by, those upstarts fall back down, while their newer equivalents can't catch up to the much higher bar that's being set. Like I think a lot of the stuff that's being kicked out at the moment is just gonna creep back in eventually.

(In saying all of this, I have noticed that the Australian Spotify chart this year has had way more current music than I've seen in the 12 months previous. Guessing the UK might be similar).

If that 6-9 section gets shunted by the oncoming likes of Djo, Hozier, Sabrina… we could have a whole top 10 of songs that actually peaked in the current year (or resurged in the case of MOTD) and it will have only took… nearly half the year.

At least we won’t be reaching the end of the year with a song that peaked 18 months earlier in the YTD top 3.

Yeah we’re doing OK for freshness this year. Prada, Greedy and Cruel Summer are looking to have pretty sticky longevity though. At least none of them have made the year end Top 10 before.

Lovin On Me, Yes, And? and MOTD are looking unlikely to retain their Top 10 positions.
