The song is cute but weak

I think that sums it up perfectly tbh.

Glad it provided a chart entry for Kylie which is more than I expected.

Dance Alone is not weak and the Offenbach and Malibu Babie remixes are excellent.

The original got another 200k Spotify streams on Friday. Its now Kylies 37th most streamed song on Spotify of all time and it was released 7th Feb 2024.

Love it and the video is solid too.

Kylie managed to give it a bit of sparkle but... I feel like it's closer to being weak than it is to being strong.

I mean the majority of the song is this:

I just wanna dance alone, I ain't ever going home

I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone, I just wanna lose my phone

I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, forever)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, forever)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, forever)

I just wanna dance alonе (Forever)

I just wanna dance alone, I ain't ever going home

I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone, I just wanna lose my phone (Ah, ah)

I just wanna dance alone (I just wanna dance)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, forever)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, ooh, forever)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever, forever)

I just wanna dance alone (Forever)

I just wanna dance alone, I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone, I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone

I just wanna dance alone (I just wanna dance alone)

I ain't ever going home (I just wanna dance alone)

I just wanna dance alone (I just wanna dance alone, dance)

I just wanna dance alone (I just wanna dance alone)

I just wanna lose my phone (I just wanna dance alone)

I just wanna dance alone (I just wanna dance alone)

 I don't think Sia stretched herself here! :kink:

But it's a repetitive dance song and it works. That doesn't make it weak.

I've never been a lyric person, I don't think about lyrics when I am out dancing

Agree it’s not supposed to be anything deep, it’s a solid dance pop tune and hopefully over time it’ll collect significant streams.

There’s so many tunes with gigantic streams that are painfully generic.

In other news CGYOOMH cleared over 640k on Spotify Friday, it’s going to pass 500million next week…plus it was a good day for Kylie generally almost 2 million total.

I appreciate it for what it is - it’s not groundbreaking and not a song I’ll revisit very often but it’s fun and nice to have.

I’m sure it’ll rack up decent streams even though GP connection is low (The UK is still the only country it’s charted in globally despite it looking promising at one point in France).

But it's a repetitive dance song and it works. That doesn't make it weak.

You can be so overly defensive sometimes, if someone criticises a song it's hardly the end of the world.

I'm not being defensive. I like the song, so i will add some positivity for it on the board rather than just listen to negativity.

Its doing well.

Nice to see it enter Spotify France at 198!

Everybody is entitled to say what their opinion about a song is, whether that’s positive, negative, neutral, and anywhere in between. The thing is, is that I feel some comments are being interpreted as being wholly negative, when actually they’re not - so when these comments are combatted every time, it does read defensively.

I feel like what I’ve written about Dance Alone recently is pretty mild criticism. I’ve given some reasons why I find it kind of average. Average doesn’t mean bad. There’s aspects to it I like/don’t mind (the instrumental, certain vocals, particular melodies) but others I find it lacking (the overly repetitive lyrics, a surface-level approach lyrically to what is a well trodden theme, and Sia - to me - sounding like she’s going through the motions a bit - vocally and lyrically). I think she’s set the bar high for herself on some past songs, so I cant help but sometimes think this when listening to Dance Alone, about how she can do considerably better than this.

All of which leaves me classing it as a bit average, something listenable enough but I just know isn’t going to stick with me forever as being an essential in Kylie’s catalogue. And that’s fine, there’s countless songs that I listen to a few times when they’re new and then move on from.

My post wasn’t to imply that lyrics are the number one most important feature of a song for me. There’s numerous aspects that brings together a song, and whether that’s successful or not is totally subjective. Some of my favourite songs of all time are totally bare bones lyrically. Some of my least favourite songs have beautiful/meaningful lyrics but I don’t like how it sounds, the production and/or the vocals. It’s just in this instance, the extreme repetition of “I just wanna dance alone” doesn’t work well for me.

P.S. Dance Alone is surely a pop song primarily, I wouldn’t classify this as being first and foremost a dance song personally (yes I know this is picky!)

Cool,

| love the lyrics, easy to remember and perfect for a song that doesn't mean to be deep and meaning full as the video doesn't either. Its going to end up being on of Kylie's biggest hits streaming wise and I think it is well and truly in her top 50 songs of all time. Love the beat, love the remixes. Hope it gets a few plays in the clubs of Ibiza etc in the summer and hope it is used somehow, even if just as an interlude on a Tour.

Do we need Sia to be the same all the time? Nope, i like her changing it up a bit. Its going to probably be in my top 3 songs of the year already. I play the original, Ofenbach and Malibu remixes after each other on a daily basis,

Hoping it can keep this 150-200k Spotify listens per day up until album release and then get a little boost for Kylie. Hoping for 50-75m Spotify streams in 2024

I agree with SmileyKylie, I do really like it. It serves its purpose as a fun pop song and I've had it on repeat since release! Ranks second behind Gimme Love on the singles so far for me, but it's certainly more catchy

This is interesting to me because imo Sia’s been serving similarly safe pop for a while now. I’d say it’s more her not changing it up a bit that is partly why I’m feeling how I feel about Dance Alone.

Anyway, it’s great that some fans do love it! It’s equally as valid if some don’t. So that’s why I’m sharing, just to express how I honestly feel, but it’s not intended to take away from however anyone else feels about the song.

So there’s a CD Single/ 12 inch vinyl coming. Bundled with the album on the Warner store.

12 inch is pricy but it’s the full remix package at least. CD single track listing not published for some weird reason.

Edit….^with the eggs already ha ha ^

£65 to get the vinyl and CD <_<

I bundled each one with a Sia download as it was the cheapest option - shame my sales for Dance Alone won’t count towards the UK charts as I’m ordering from Australia.

I wonder if they’ll remain as an Australian exclusive?

As much as I like collecting Kylie physical singles, there’s absolutely no way I’m spending £65
