February 23, 20241 yr *NSYNC is the only omission that comes to mind. Bye Bye Bye is the only platinum certified single (26.11.2021). Top album unclear as but the 3 gold albums are No Strings Attached (September 2000), Celebrity (May 2002) and Greatest Hits (December 2022)

Yes, it is annoying when, in quite a few cases, it's hard to discern the top album because more than one of them have the same certification. Edited February 23, 20241 yr by Hassaan
February 23, 20241 yr All Night is The Vamps' biggest! It was certified platinum over two years before Can We Dance (and it's more popular on Spotify still so I don't see that having changed). 5 Seconds of Summer Biggest single: Youngblood (3x plat, so 1.8m+) Biggest album: 5 Seconds of Summer (plat, so 300k+) BTS Biggest single: Dynamite (plat, so 600k+) Hard to state their biggest album as several are gold. Rixton Biggest single: Me and My Broken Heart (plat, so 600k+) Three albums, two credited to Push Baby but they didn't chart. Let the Road, the debut, is uncertified. Union J Biggest album: Union J (silver, so 60k+) None of their singles were certified but You Got It All peaked the highest (#2), while Carry You had the longest chart run (a whole 3 weeks top 40) so hard to tell which would be the biggest. Jonas Brothers Biggest single: Sucker (2x plat, so 1.2m+) Two albums certified gold on the same day according to BPI so anyone's guess which is the higher seller.
February 24, 20241 yr Author Thanks for the additional sales. :) Rule The World is on Wikipedia as 1.8m - not sure how reliable that is though. It's correct - just checked and it was certified as 3x Platinum in January. Back for Good is still 2x Platinum (as of December 2020). Are you sure about the One Love sales? Seem very high.Just double checked - I don't know where I got 1.4m from but it turns out it was actually 400k. Edited February 24, 20241 yr by Hassaan
February 26, 20241 yr I can’t believe One Direction have the biggest boy band single according to this list. They are completely overhyped. Just another one of Cowell’s money making machines. Edited February 26, 20241 yr by neill2407
February 27, 20241 yr What Makes You Beautiful pre-dated the streaming era and has sold over a million pure sales. Of course 1D in general do well on streaming but let's not undermine how huge they and in particular that song were - in fact, their continued impressive streaming in over 8 years (!!!) since they split is a testament to just how big they were, and WMYB remains their most widely recognised (can't be hindered by the fact Harry still performs his own arrangement of it on his tours). Of the songs on the list, among a similar demographic to me, I'd say only I Want It That Way, Uptown Girl and Year 3000 are on a similar level of recognition (and even then, Uptown Girl isn't necessarily known as a Westlife song). Obviously other people may see it differently depending on who they talk to / the demographic they're part of / etc. Whether you like 1D or not is subjective, but WMYB was a huge hit and the start of a cultural phenomenon that arguably hasn't been matched by any other boyband on this list (Take That at their peak aside, perhaps). Calling it "teenagers' streaming" is downplaying their huge impact among a fanbase that will largely have grown up with them - and if they were teenagers when WMYB came out, they absolutely aren't now, so why do these songs still get huge streams I wonder? (PS: All Night is The Vamps' biggest seller as per my previous post!)
February 27, 20241 yr Good to see rule the world as high as it is, i love the song in general and its also my fave Take That song.

I highly doubt it even sold 1 million pure sales, let alone physicals… thats way below certain top singles from other boybands
February 28, 20241 yr Author (PS: All Night is The Vamps' biggest seller as per my previous post!)Amended! I was a bit slow on that one.

I highly doubt it even sold 1 million pure sales, let alone physicals… thats way below certain top singles from other boybands It’s a fact that it sold over a million in pure sales! It achieved it in October 2016. https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/o...ng-song__16568/ 1,010,042 was a confirmed pure total in September 2017 - https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...evealed__20459/

I wasnt too far though ;)
March 3, 20241 yr It was due to teenager’s streaming. You cant really compare 1Ds music is dull though. There have been many far better boybands who have sold far less such as the wanted, Lawson and even Backstreet Boys. I don’t really class Take That as a boyband anymore but their music is in a completely different league to one direction. Edited March 3, 20241 yr by neill2407
