Posted March 8, 20241 yr Not necessarily your favourite song or the one that performed the best. But lyrically speaking, which of her songs do you think has the best writing? A couple of my favs below. What do you think? sRxrwjOtIagryLGxpjwAhM Edited March 8, 20241 yr by Dexton
March 8, 20241 yr Author I guess a follow up to this would also be: what is your favourite line in her songs?
March 8, 20241 yr My three favourite written songs by her are: Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve + Bigger Than the Whole Sky + Enchanted All Too Well is an obvious go to too, but I think in terms of lyrical content and emotion… these are my picks! “Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts, give me back my girlhood it was mine first”… INSANE!!
March 8, 20241 yr All Too Well is the obvious answer but I might be biased with that one, I think for pure emotional gut punch I’d go Marjorie. So simple but so effective and there’s heart in every single word.
March 8, 20241 yr cowboy like me is one for me! It’s so underrated on this forum i remember it leaving really early in the evermore survivor but I think it’s top tier Taylor lyrically.
March 8, 20241 yr Love Story. Very cute, romantic and girlish. Favourite line "I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings" from Paper Rings.
March 8, 20241 yr cowboy like me is one for me! It’s so underrated on this forum i remember it leaving really early in the evermore survivor but I think it’s top tier Taylor lyrically. I agree, in my opinion it’s her best written song! Such a beautiful story. I could genuinely go on for hours analysing it 😭
March 9, 20241 yr I love The Last Great American Dynasty lyrically. Great example of her storytelling imo. I do love all too well for this reason too - even if it is an obvious choice. Best lyric: There goes the maddest woman this town has ever seen She had a marvelous time ruinin' everything"
March 10, 20241 yr Author All Too Well is the obvious answer but I might be biased with that one, I think for pure emotional gut punch I’d go Marjorie. So simple but so effective and there’s heart in every single word. Marjorie  folklore and evermore probably take the cake when it comes to Taylor’s songwriting talents. Even if either of them aren’t your favourite album it’s hard to argue they aren’t lyrical finesse
March 12, 20241 yr tolerate it as one... my favorite lines: While you were out building other worlds, where was I? Where's that man who'd throw blankets over my barbed wire? I made you my temple, my mural, my sky Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life Drawing hearts in the byline
July 18, 2024Jul 18 Ignore your favourite songs (unless her best written really is your favourite song ofc) but what song of Taylor's do you think is her best lyrically? One that keeps standing out to me is 'this is me trying' and I think it's the one I think of first when I'm pondering this question. Particularly the 2nd verse... "They told me all of my cages were mental So I got wasted like all my potential And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad I have a lot of regrets about that I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere Fell behind on my classmates, and I ended up here Pouring out my heart to a stranger But I didn't pour the whiskey" I love the "So ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere" line especially!
July 18, 2024Jul 18 Cowboy like me is a standout on evermore, and actually in her whole discography lyrically - it tells such a vivid story and bonus points because it can be interpreted differently - some see it as a love song while others (me) see it as a breakup song!
