I just can't see a Hozier track doing anywhere near the numbers required to compete with a Swift lead single. I don't see it happening.
Well... it's gaining more and more momentum right now and if it truly is "the next 'Stick Season'", then it won't be slowing down anytime soon.

No one knows for sure what will happen. Hozier may be on 80k and at it's peak at that point.. who knows.

I agree, I love both but prefer Taylor, and I think he'll block her sadly. There are 4 songs around 8M WW streams and him at 5 gaining like crazy, around 7M per day, that's all time high for any period of time, expect Christmas of course, the competition is beyond crazy when she's coming with TTPD I must say, not good for her.

Also this. She has massive hype and people twnd to lisyen to the same stuff as their friends, so for now she's fine. Overexposed, but fine. She'll be no.1

That Hozier track might be gaining momentum now - in two weeks time it could easily be losing that momentum, giving Swift a good chance to get the No 1 album and single both here and in the US. Nobody's in the same stratosphere as her in terms of reliable shifting units and that's going to be completely evident in a few weeks. I find it laughable anyone thinks a flash in the pan Hozier song is gonna even contend with the GOAT.

If it were "flash in the pan" it would not have reached #1 on Spotify on its 12th day, it would've been dropping by now like Eat Your Young did. Thinking it won't challenge Taylor is one thing, calling it "flash in the pan" is another...

The Hozier track is clearly not behaving like a flash in the pan hit lmao.

The Taylor songs are actually far more likely to peak immediately by her past record although that’s obviously not a given.

Maybe not flash-in-the-pan but I don't think it'll top the charts for long if does top them. It might get a week or two at number one. I just don't think it's gonna be a long-lasting hit like Stick Season as some in this thread are suggesting.

On a better note - at least it looks as though we're going to have a few competitive weeks at the top with Benson Boone, Hozier, Artemis and Taylor once she drops all in with a shot of taking the No 1 spot. After a relatively long period of pretty guessable No 1s that's good.

This AntiHero and Cruel summer aside she doesn't tend to stick around the uper echelon ages single wise, is It over Now is one of the worst performing number 1s of last year

Statements like these could leave you with egg on your face in the future, a bit like the guy who recently offered to give everyone £20 if Dua Lipa's single made the top 5.

Oh I think it's much too soon to be comparing it to something like Stick Season, I do agree with that, but I don't think there's any evidence to suggest it's going to drop back any time soon. Quite the opposite, actually, considering its rapid ascent!

I think Hozier's currently in a similar position to Djo a couple of weeks ago, where the #1 may be a little out of reach (as things currently stand) due to Apple not marrying up with the big Spotify streams yet (Too Sweet is #7 on Apple, around the position where End of Beginning was a couple of weeks ago when it was in the conversation for #1). Artemas even more so - #19 on Apple right now (and even that is a vaaast improvement on a few days ago). Of course both are on an upward trajectory so there's plenty of time for things to change!

Hozier now up to #1 also on Amazon

and up to #6 on Apple, slowly getting there

Hozier extends his lead, he's up to 630K now, while Benson is on 556K and Artems is at 510K

Never thought I'd see Hozier number one on Spotify. Well done that man
Yaaaas Hozier! Up to 43 with TMTC too. :cheer: I feel like it could return to top 10 in time.

crazy that Hozier started the tracking week doing 350K and now he's on 630K in less than a week

and being track #36 on HH who are still pushing tracks like Guetta & Zara lol

630K without HH basically... Goodbye Taylor, this will be on 800-900K in no-time. Wrong time to release for sure in general (so many songs smashing at the same time, in a weird way) but she couldn't know that.

I adore Hozier and Take Me To Church so much, elated to see him finally get a second big hit after all this time.

It made me want to look at the odds thread when I sent Take Me To Church to BJSC in 2013 (it only finished 11th, more than a year before it started to break out in the UK). I apparently had 'hilariously misplaced self-confidence' that it would do a bit better than that, having predicted it to come 5th :o To be fair, Bra was right that it wasn't a winner, but the 4 million UK sales was a good consolation prize, as well as my prediction that it would be a big UK hit.

At least I'm not the only one with hilariously misplaced self-confidence this contest then :heehee:

(Hozier will probably do better than your last 4 entries but it's really not a contender to win surely - though I'm always wrong about these things so don't mind me).

I may be COMPLETELY wrong here but I really have this gut feeling that it's going to break out Gotye/Lorde style in the next 6 months (not that their BJSC 'success' should really inspire me that it'll do well in the contest!). It's shaping up to be a massive hit in Ireland and I think it *could* spread from there (over to the UK/Radio 1 at least). It will stand out on the radio and it has a video that will definitely get people talking. I've noticed it quickly climbing iTunes in Ireland (#8 now and the EP was #1) and I'm sure it will be #1 there soon before other countries start to pick it up. I could be completely wrong but I'm sometimes right (Pixie Lott, Example, Caro Emerald :P). Weirdly I've noticed two people on Facebook mention that they love the song in the last week, a girl I dated about 6 months ago who I definitely didn't show the song to and Gossling (a former BJSC entrant of mine) so it must be getting around somehow already.

Wow good call! I’m so happy it’s looking to have a bit of a revival. One of my all-time favourite songs from the 2010s if not my actual favourite.

I had hoped Artemas would snatch a stint at the top, but Hozier and Taylor will block it out I'd imagine. We could be on for some weeks of very high sales though?
