Starting on May 1st, entries which reach Accelerated Chart Ratio permanently three years after it's release date will need 1000 streams to count as a unit. the OCC have announced. This is being done to address the increasing Christmas song deluge year on year and to spare the situation where Wham's Last Christmas could be Christmas Number 1 year in, year out.

That time of the year again

Just realised after googling for 10 minutes

For now, yes. Although after Last Christmas has been Xmas #1 for the third time in a row the OCC may end up doing something or other.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Been said before but would be more ridiculous if Wham wasn’t at no1 given it’s popularity!
While changing the chart rules will come at some time i think for now the christmas songs we all love we will remain the big players on the November and December charts.
