Since we have a thread already for noughties TV that would not pass today, why not have one for 2000s tv shows we would all like to see return? B-)

 

1. Desperate Housewives - this is the first that springs to mind. Such a brilliant series from start to finish - now that its been 20 years since it first began, it would be nice to see Wisteria Lane now with an older Brie, Gabby, Susan and Lynette (unsure if the actress is still in prison though?). I honestly feel like it could be a success.

 

 

 

2. Pop Idol - even though talent shows don't seem to have the same pull as they did pre-2012, I think a Pop Idol revival could generate a lot of interest - especially since it never flopped, instead just axed for The X Factor, and there's probably some nostalgia value there. What was better about the format compared to XF was the judges being impartial, rather than having the eventual winner's boss sit on the panel.

 

 

 

3. Bad Girls - this was must-see back in the day and probably some of the most shocking things my 8-year-old self watched. :melb: The storylines, the characters (played by some brilliant actresses) and writing - all were on top form. It's weird it was axed despite still being popular and there's never really been a British female prison drama since.

 

 

 

4. Footballers Wives - this was sexy, camp and entertaining tv at its best! Again, I probably shouldn't have been watching this at a young age but thank God I did. Tanya Turner was THE bitch, Jason, Conrad and Kyle were hot af and even lesser characters like Hazel just brought so much. Series 3 was the peak in my opinion! Unsure whether it would work now but if it ever came back I hope they'd keep some of the original cast.

 

 

 

5. Top of the Pops - there hasn't been a regular music show like TOTP or Popworld in ages. Maybe the genre is dead but would be nice for current artists to have a platform to promote new music.

Harry Hill's TV Burp, though sadly would not happen.

Too late now, but I always wanted a follow up series of Sugar Rush (the C4 series, not the Netflix one!)

 

Would also love to see something like Gimme Gimme Gimme with a special (although one of the main cast passed away - Beryl)

Yes! I used to love that series! Totally forgot about that. Agreed, it probably wouldn't work now (same with HH TV Burp).

UK TV is really missing stuff like Footballers Wives and Bad Girls, glitzy and/or gritty female led shows that had a camp edge, the right amount of drama and glitz, must watch TV each week. I feel like we get endless say crime dramas but shows like those are such a 00s UK thing that I think is definitely a gap in the schedules right now.

This video clip popped up on my YouTube feed earlier, and I watched it back in full, remembering the time I saw it live on terrestrial TV, and whilst the show was nearing its end, it did spill into the early 00’s, and I loved to see the transformations to the legendary stars!

@Liam totally agree. Today's TV is so tame and dull compared to back then. I guess all the good shows are on streaming now.

 

Omg loved Stars In Their Eyes too! Nostalgic TV right there. I loved the kids edition too and as an Xtina fan especially loved this:

 

 

 

Also, Aston from JLS was on there as a kid impersonating MJ.

This is another one I'd like to see back but IIRC there was a voting scandal involving the show so maybe it's too tarnished but it was good fun nonetheless.

 

 

 

 

And speaking of singing shows, there was a short-lived show called Just the Two of Us where celebs would be partnered with famous singers and essentially duet for votes. Featured celebs such as Beverley Knight, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her mum Janet Ellis, Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet and Natasha from Atomic Kitten!

 

One that isn’t music related, but I am going back to the 90s era really, but again I think it spilled into 2000/2001 and that is the snookering game show Big Break (with a catchy theme tune :P);

 

 

I could see a revival with someone like Michael McIntyre presenting as he’s a BBC regular now. :lol:

They've brought back Stars in their Eyes twice - first with Harry Hill in 2015 and then as 'Starstruck' with Olly Murs in 2022.

I remember the Harry Hill one which looked awfully low-budget but Starstruck passed me by. I assume it was a flop?

Loved Goldenballs! They should bin Deal Or No Deal and bring this back.

 

The Weakest Link has been revived with Romesh Ranganathan hosting.

Bad Girls and Desperate Housewives for me (without Susan tho x)
Desperate Housewives but it's Eva Longoria and a bunch of other newbies and Eva acts as the sage who mentors them through whatever tumultuous bs their neighborhood goes through

 

Danny Phantom would work VERY well as a live action but I don't want them with the CW after what they nearly did to Powerpuff Girls 😵‍💫 😵‍💫 😵‍💫 whichever team worked on the ATLA live action would suffice
