Decent numbers all round. Kendrick broke a lot of hip hop spotify records too today.

Blimey I can’t believe post and Morgan have gone straight in at no1 even more baffling it’s pulled those numbers, that’s insane. Could be on for a 2nd country no1 hit this year.

 

This year is utterly mad for the number of songs that have taken off I’d say we’ve had the equivalent of the last two years combined and it’s only May. There’s been plenty of songs in recent weeks which if they’d been standalone hits last year and 2022 would have easily have spent 7-8 weeks at no.1 if not more.

It's very much country pop to my ears. For what it's worth, the genre on iTunes/Apple is listed as "country" too.

Billie's two #1 singles have been soundtrack singles, one of which only hit the top with the help of physicals. Not saying she wouldn't have a chance of #1 with a song that particularly connects but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion either.

for me the Post Malone song is 100% bubblegum pop, same as Sabrina-Espresso, cannot see anything country about it

The production has some very obvious country tinges to it in my view. Wikipedia lists its genre as "country pop" too so I don't think it's such a silly suggestion that it's got significant country influences.
Yeah I would say it’s modern country pop, doesn’t sound that different to Morgan’s recent hits and I’d argue most modern country pop is quite similar in sound these days. Tbh I think the line between country, pop and other genres is more blurred these days anyway.
If Post and Morgan cross 1M again tomorrow, at least 1/4 of them are from me. Cannot stop listening. Haven't been obsessed with a song like this in a long time. I'm not even a Morgan Wallen fan :lol:

Oh we're really doing this then. What a crazy month it's been for Post Malone.

 

This is only the second time that we've had two non-Christmas songs by different artists doing over 1 million streams in a day on UK Spotify ever then, after the one day 'Sprinter' and 'Who Told You' were both over a million last year. A possibility that both Posty and Sabrina could yet have more days with over a million as well. (Definitely now looks like 'Espresso' was destined to hit these numbers regardless of autoplay, still think its initial surge to 900k+ looked very sus but I can buy that its 'genuine' popularity has increased enough over the past couple of weeks to cancel that out especially with the weather we're having right now which the song is perfect for).

 

Also 'Not Like Us' is at its highest daily numbers to date despite falling 3 places to #6 :drama: where did all these massive numbers come from, did someone wake the monoculture up again? x

 

+ if 'Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me?' can overtake 'Down Bad' that would be wonderful thank you x
