September 9, 2024Sep 9 We have the same fave Beatles song Jay, here comes the sun is mine too! Emma Bunton murdered it on My happy place 😂
September 9, 2024Sep 9 7. Queen: *Whispers* Greatest Hits houses some of my least favourite songs ever... maybe I shouldn't specify which ones, in case I cause some anguish! :kink: I will highlight liking Killer Queen and Somebody to Love though. Spill the beans! I don’t think anyone’s that sensitive, plus I’m going to be rubbishing some of your faves in the next few days. :D Nothing really matters to me. :P

September 9, 2024Sep 9 Amazing climb. Shame they couldn't get past a certain other male/ female group which are still in the running Edited September 9, 2024Sep 9 by ElectroBoy
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Yes! The tribute act loses out to the OGs ;). The OGs are Better Best Forgotten :P
September 9, 2024Sep 9 I'm still shook Steps are this high. They have some fun songs for sure (and I prefer their last couple of albums to their earlier stuff tbh) but they're definitely punching at #6.
September 9, 2024Sep 9 The OGs are Better Best Forgotten :P It’s no Tragedy, One of Us was bound turn a Deeper Shade of Blue, but I guess The Winner Takes It All! Edited September 9, 2024Sep 9 by chartjack2
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Author Well their artist forum was all over the rate from the off and they were third for a while (even led after the first set of votes thanks to Leonardo).
September 9, 2024Sep 9 I really admire Steps’ longevity and their spirit. They have a few songs I really like: “Scared Of The Dark”, “One For Sorrow” and “A Deeper Shade Of Blue” might be my top 3. Claire Richards is a great vocalist and I saw her live when I went to see a recording of the “Popstar To Operastar” show. But overall they have nowhere near the consistency of material or the emotional power of the band who obviously inspired them.
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Spill the beans! I don’t think anyone’s that sensitive, plus I’m going to be rubbishing some of your faves in the next few days. :D Nothing really matters to me. :P  I look forward to it! Don’t Stop Me Now is the main offender. I don’t even know what it is about it but… *shudders* :kink: I dislike McFly’s version even more! I can’t say I’m keen on We Will Rock You or We Are the Champions either 🤫
September 9, 2024Sep 9 I've got a lot of love for Steps, delighted to see them so high. I actually like a lot more of their 2017-present material than some of their heyday hits - although I still love One For Sorrow, Last Thing On My Mind, It's The Way You Make Me Feel and many other hits from their initial run. The more recent stuff has been surprisingly high quality, well produced and performed pop and they are always brilliant live, they don't mime and they do the full dance routines still. It's no wonder that they can sell out their own tours every few years and don't have to rely on the '90s pop fest' kind of circuit with 30 other acts that keeps many of their contemporaries going. Also it helps that their line-up has never changed so there is that consistency - it's all five of them or nothing (apart from H & Claire's ill-advised spin-off). Producing seemingly joyous pop but often with a darker or more mournful edge lyrically, and with No.1 albums across four consecutive decades is no mean feat. No.6 feels very high but I'm not complaining.
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Absolutely love steps so I’m glad to see them this high, they were my 6th on my rating so exactly where I would have placed them.
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Delighted for steps. They have so many great songs that I enjoy from both the olden and current releases.
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Oh, Steps finally revealed! Could 21 people be wrong? :cheeseblock: They’re a big childhood favourite for me (their heyday years cover me being aged 9 to 13). The colourful, cheesy & poppy sound and image really grabbed me. I think what gave them a slight edge amongst their late 90s/early 00s pop peers is that lyrically their songs were often rather forlorn, yet they were disguised by their feel-good presentation! When they split at the end of 2001, I kind of put them back on the shelf, so to speak, and I hardly listened to them for the rest of my childhood. Their reunion in 2011/2012 happened when I was 23/24, so enough time had passed for me to feel nostalgic and enjoy seeing them on tour for the first time. As far as I was concerned I was satisfied if they left it at that point. I didn’t anticipate their comeback in 2017, marking the beginning of a few years releasing new albums and singles. I think they really nailed it with their sound for the comeback, understanding what makes them “Steps” and embracing that, but modernising it. Their new music really solidified them as one of my all-time favourite pop groups! I know we have different measures of what makes a group “authentic” and without getting into that too deeply, I’d just say that Steps have their niche and they’re excellent at what they do!
September 9, 2024Sep 9 Author So some facts about the top 5: There are 12 thirty pointers to be given out between four acts, meaning that 1 act left never got maximum points from any voter# All acts attracted at least 25 voters All will be revealed by the end of the week!
September 9, 2024Sep 9 I think ABBA will be the ones without any 30 points but possibly come 3rd/4th overall
September 9, 2024Sep 9 What I notice about Steps is that most of the people who voted for them gave them a lot of points!
September 9, 2024Sep 9 What I notice about Steps is that most of the people who voted for them gave them a lot of points! Spotted that too, I think 20 of their 21 voters gave them +18 or more? For me this rate has hit its full jump the shark moment after a few close calls lower down, not really sure what to say any more!
