June 3, 20241 yr Yes there will be a prediction game for the tournament up and running soon. I see it, thank you. A chance to post my sorry predictions again. :P
June 6, 20241 yr Curtis Jones and James Maddison have left so 26 from 31 players and given the positions it’ll most likely be Trafford, two defenders and two attackers one being Toney or Watkins
June 6, 20241 yr Author Both can be good on their days - not consistently good enough for England though.
June 6, 20241 yr Grealish & Maguire also kicked out, pretty baffled at the Maguire one Must have been a more severe injury than they were letting on.
June 6, 20241 yr No surprise Jack Grealish got left out of the final squad for the Euros. I said it last year that he'd be living off winning the treble with City for the rest of his career, also Jeremy Doku has well and truly put him in his place this season. Edited June 6, 20241 yr by Houdini
June 6, 20241 yr The full squad has just been announced: @1798753717824495826 Dunk over Branthwaite is not surprising but really disappointing. I'm a bit worried with no Maguire now. I personally would have rather had one more midfielder instead of Toney.
June 6, 20241 yr Hmm, won't lie I can't believe Southgate took Dunk over Branthwaite/Quansah. Maybe he wants him as a Conor Coady role, and in the grand scheme of things I don't think it's too big an issue as I suspect he will be 5th choice. Suddenly our defence looks really weak and inexperienced though - we're going to be playing Guehi & Stones as our first choice CB, which is a bit mad.
June 6, 20241 yr Guehi has been his go-to more recently, and has started the last three England games he's been fit for. I think Grealish is the only one that's particularly surprising, I still think he can offer what we need, and he's perfect for bringing on when winning, and we've now got loads of left footers that like to cut in in attack, but with Gordon and Saka both struggling for fitness, probably makes Bowen more necessary to be an option to be the forward who'll run in behind. Ultimately, as ever with England squads, the debate is all about players which will play <25 minutes all tournament. Oh no, he's picked A, B & C to never get on the pitch instead of X, Y & Z, what a disgrace Southgate... Edited June 6, 20241 yr by RabbitFurCoat
June 6, 20241 yr Whatever happened to Rashford? Out of form, who knows really. He's a good player, but he is so streaky and I don't think he's ever performed at the top level consistently.
June 6, 20241 yr I feel like Dunk is going to be first choice. He’s started the last 2 games. Same here he’s picked for his premier league experience same as Maguire was and the other options are inexperienced. Either way England aren’t winning with that defence.
June 7, 20241 yr I feel like Dunk is going to be first choice. He’s started the last 2 games. I hope not, feel like he's always been shaky when playing for England. Would have Guehi or Konsa over him any day. Whatever happened to Rashford? Hasn't been seen since May 2023. Same here he’s picked for his premier league experience same as Maguire was and the other options are inexperienced. Either way England aren’t winning with that defence. Agreed, not a cat in hell's chance.
June 7, 20241 yr Well England are the favourites. Maguire has been solid for England but he’s not flawless he made plenty of mistakes and was slow as hell so Konsa or whoever might even help in a way, not big on Dunk either. Shaw if he can be fit for the knockouts and walker are fine. The midfield and attackers England have the best names by far. It’s all about whether Southgate can get it right. No team looks great from 1 to 11.

No team looks great from 1 to 11. I think we're false favourites though - set up by the fact we have an "easier" group on paper. Clearly we have a good attacking team and good players but our defence is incredibly average. We're likely to be playing a half-fit Luke Shaw, John Stones who hasn't regularly played football for 3 months, Walker and Guehi. Our attack is good, but it's useless without the right support structure. I really like Watkins, but he just does not fit the system Southgate plays imo. Kane is by far our most important player.
