Posted June 13, 20241 yr Released on on this date (June 13th, 1995) 29 years ago, the 3rd album by Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette titled 'Jagged Little Pill'. It went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time with over 33 million copies sold and made Alanis an icon of the 90s and well as winning 5 Grammy awards. 6 of the album's 12 tracks were released as singles, 5 of which were UK & US Top 40 hits. An all-time classic! In the UK the album is Platinum x 10, meaning 3 million copies! Crazier in the US where the album has sold 17 million copies The album holds so many classics, Ironic, You Oughtta Know, Hand in my pocket, You Learn, Head over feet and also some jewels that were never singles like Forgiven the UK reception was pretty slow, with the first 3 singles only making the top 30. Ironic "only" making it to 11 is a travesty! the album also started slow but finally made it to #1 and managed 11 weeks at the top, + 12 weeks at 2, overall 35 weeks in the top 5 and 222 weeks top 100 ,
June 13, 20241 yr total classic. You Oughta Know was pure vitriol and a statement of intent that made me sit and take notice. Ironic, ironically wasn't about irony, but has become Iconic. :)
June 13, 20241 yr 'Head over Feet' love the melody 'Ironic' is iconic, not a fan of 'Hand In My Pocket' but 'You Oughta Know' is good. Edited June 13, 20241 yr by TheSnake

June 14, 20241 yr Fond memories of my mom playing this CD in the car, even with us kids in the backseat. One day we grabbed the CD case, read all of the lyrics and that's how I learned most of my swear words 'Hand In My Pocket' is my favorite, but all of the singles are 10/10!
June 14, 20241 yr Author ^hahaha that's hilarious also for me I always associate Alanis and this album and these songs to MTV I have all these memories of spending afternoons and evenings glued to the TV watching videos on MTV and Alanis and songs like You Oughta Know were on rotation 24/7 MTV went downhill somehow but for a while it was great not sure how it ended up being a tv channel with mostly reality shows and zero music
