Oooh I like the idea of this contest

I have confirmed a song I was considering for BJSC - but as it is 18 years old it fits better here!

It was introduced to me by someone who used to be on Cool Clarity & I recently re-discovered it.

Top 100 in the UK Charts? :( That's a bit.. harsh! There are plenty of one-week top 75 bops that a lot of the forum would have forgotten about/don't care for that we might want people to rediscover! </3

(But on a srs note - I've thought of about 3 songs that I wanna send, but can't coz they reached the top 100 for a week or 2 (no higher than top 60!))

The Top 100 rule does seem a bit harsh, especially as it isn’t that easy to find out if something peaked in the #76-100 region.

Anyhow I’ve submitted something. :)

The 20th Century forum song contest allows top 40 hits, I feel like we should at least allow top 75 or top 40 as long as the song is mainly forgotten, the rule exists for the Pop forum as that's based primarily on current pop, but it's much harder to find for older hits.

(I will try and find something regardless, but that would certainly make it easier x)

Personally I’d be okay with loosening that rule, though don’t want to speak for Wardy and the other mods lol.

Sorry I'm out at the moment but when researching I took the rules from PFSC as a guideline and added a couple of extras.

I'm not trying to be restrictive, so if we feel that it would be better to reduce or remove that rule then I'm open to amending it (and contacting the existing participants with this new direction once it's decided).

Sorry to have messed up. :(

You haven’t messed up - it’s just a possible refinement, and those who’ve entered already can have the opportunity to switch. :)

I agree. I think BJSC and others can sometimes be a BIT too restrictive. I understand why, but still!

Ok, so I've changed the rule to allow songs that didn't chart inside the UK Top 10 in line with the contest run in the Retro forum. I hope this is more acceptable for everyone.

Music world is more wide than UK top 100 chart. There are many amazing local pop acts in almost each European country.

I thought about the participation, but don’t have any interest with changed rules.

I think outside top 40 is ok actually as a lot of those songs go unheard. I never think any of these contests should include anything that went top 40, but that's just me.

Anyway, I'm going to participate - love the name of the contest  And have a cool song I recently discovered that this seems good for.

That’s exactly why the rules were changed though? A bigger range of potential songs?

Yes you wouldn't be limited to sending a UK charted single now, it can be from anywhere it just can't have reached the UK Top 10.
Nobody’s implying that music that didn’t chart in the UK Top 100 is less valid - it just happens to be what most of us grew up with. And I’m sure many of the entries with still be non UK hits in any case.
