June 19, 20241 yr I can't say I am huge on any of the artists working with Dr Luke recently. I am also one of the biggest Kesha stans ever so her "lol" tweet broke my heart. What makes it all the more disheartening is that Katy, much more than the other artists mentioned in this chat, is a global superstar, a massive name. She could've worked with a new upcoming producer and given them exposure. Or a niche producer that would help her sound evolve. She is a huge name that has conquered a lot in the pop world and didn't NEED to do this. The other artists who are up and coming going to Dr Luke seems less damning and disappointing because they probably don't have the ability to take risks away from what they know considering the points in their careers. Also Katy is a major contemporary and peer for Kesha. The two started their careers in tandem and they've been in the game together for ~15 years; their circles have been the same for a lot of that so it's all the more disappointing. With many of the other artists this is not the case. My hype is next to none now. I will listen with an open mind and try to enjoy what I can but it will now be tinged with disappointment which is a hard emotion to shake.

June 19, 20241 yr I don't get the issue here. Dr Luke wasn't actually convicted of anything (rightly or wrongly, us from the outside will never know unless we see otherwise), and I'm pretty sure Katy has said things alluding to not having experienced any of the allegations*. Why would she choose not to work with him based on one person's experience, when she hasn't experienced the same thing herself despite working with him ALOT? He was never convicted: for all we know, Kesha could have exaggerated the truth as a way out of her record deal... We have no way of knowing that at the moment. Maybe I've missed something? Rob (don't wanna single you out, and I think that the intention of your post is more around the choice being misguided, rather than a dig at Katy for working with him) has even said he happily stans Kim Petras who is literally always working with him. I just don't get it. Katy is being dragged for working with him, others are being let off... It just makes no sense to me lol Either way, the tiktok clip sounds horrendous! That's the reason my hype has flattened! * I could be wildly wrong and making this up, but I'm sure I read something at some point. Thank you very much for this post and I feel very similar. And indeed, this amount of hate towards specifically Katy Perry seems targeted. Overall I genuinely don’t know what happened, and going after people who worked with a certain person is itself problematiqúe and feels like a witch hunt. That said, I hate the snippet and hope it is indeed not the right one. 🙂↔️

I haven't seen the lyrics on that dress, but I wouldn't actually be surprised if the awful clip we first got was actually part of the song: it does sound like it would fit in... And if it's say, the opening lines of a verse, it means it's building into a relatively explosive chorus. Goes to show a clip will never show the full picture! (Maybe they selected that clip from the song because they knew people would jump on "it's so bad", getting people talking about it/making tiktoks etc...? If that's that case, faur play, it's DEFINITELY working!) I can’t imagine it going down well if she did address it. I’d imagine she’s likely being advised not too maybes. I struggle to see any reason why she would mention anything, whether advised to keep quiet or not. Her team have probably assumed that it might come up in interviews: I doubt she's gonna say "yeah, I worked with him... f*** that liar Kesha!!!1!!1"... I imagine it'll be more along the lines of "they're the only ones that know what happened there, I haven't heard of any other rumblings, I feel bad about how Kesha feels, but *I've* never had any issues when working with him". I'm not an abuse defender, but I can't jump on someone that hasn't been convicted without smoke from a more than a few people - Kesha knows to stay clear, and I would hope if other have experienced the same, they come forward! I'll continue to listen to Kesha, Katy, Dr Luke, anyone, as long as the music's good in the meantime!
