Not the first post I thoughtI’d post in here but here’s a tribute to Lyn Scully and fallen icon Janet Andrewartha.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Comedy and drama in equal measure. Lyn will be missed. RIP Janet.

Shocked to read this the morning, can't believe she was 72 either as she always looked so much younger.

Incredibly sad news :( one of my favourite ever characters, Janet was an incredibly talented actress.

RIP Janet. Thank you for playing one of my favourite characters, being a part of my childhood and being one of the reasons I love Neighbours.

And how did I forget this?

 

 

Was there anything iconic this woman couldn’t do?

Tess is the worst actor ever but I love her.

Tess really took a wrong turn off the set of Dallas by mistake.

 

Neighbours really has some of the best (Susan, Paul, Krista, Jane) and worst (Toadie, Nell, Haz, Tess, all of the Eirini Rising residents apart from Harold) actors in soap together in the same show. Each episode seems to be either brilliant or awful, depending on who is in the cast list on that particular day.

Just after discovering Toadie was axed rather him deciding to leave, for what was a legacy character this comes as a surprise.

I was much more gutted when it was announced that Sonya was axed. Toadie is a terrible character these days and has been awful since Sonya died. If we’re being honest, she was the only thing propping him up in the decade before that. Since they decided he had to ‘grow up’ which seemed to mean being an arse to everyone all the time, he’s not been essential for me.

 

I wonder if the feedback Amazon have received about him has been poor. I don’t know anyone who has enjoyed his character since the relaunch.

The pairing with Therese was the final nail in Toadies coffin as it didnt work in any shape or form and it pretty much backed the character into a corner that the viewers are not enjoying any maybe Amazon became aware of that.

It's a shame because really I don't think Toadie's character has stood a chance in the Amazon era. He's been given nothing to do but either cry or be a love rat. Anyone new to the show would never have guessed that once upon a time Toadie was one of the lightest happy-go-lucky characters on the show.

 

The Terese pairing never had any mileage. All of their romance seemingly happened offscreen in the time warp, so all we've actually seen is Toadie and Terese making each other miserable since. And it doesn't help at all that the show drops anvils every single episode that Terese is destined for Paul.

 

Maybe they'd have had some scope to send Toadie back to Melanie had they not wrecked any audience goodwill left for that pairing with the cheating storyline.

 

I wonder if there are other factors at play. We're presumably coming up to renewal discussions; have Amazon demanded a budget cut? Most of the newer recruits (Haz aside) have been seemingly well-received, so perhaps they're feeling more confident in starting to let go of the "Big Four".

They’re now saying Toadie is going down a route that is natural for his character at this point. I’ll admit he’s more interesting now than he’s been in years.

 

Toadie is mainly only known for his longevity these days. He’s stayed with the show so long and that’s probably because he’s aware of his limitations as an actor. He’s very good at being the fun, comedy character but is incredibly weak when delivering anything emotional and just becomes shouty.

 

And the writing has let him down big time over the past fifteen years-the Susan Bower era decided to make Toadie ‘grow up’ which could have still happened with his fun side in tow. But they made him a jerk to most characters whilst simultaneously still universally loved by all of them (the Kennedys suffered similar in that era but definitely recovered once it was over). Callum and Sonya were the saving grace but they’ve disappeared over the years and Toadie’s issues as a character are now more prominent because of this.

 

The fact the character has had FIVE wives is ridiculous. It suits someone like Paul but not pillar of the community Toadie. Yes, Steph barely counts but she still does. Yes, he only married Mel because the show was ending. But it still happened. Yes, the Terese marriage was purely for shock value of the show returning but unfortunately that still counts and, along with the idea Mischa Barton could sell the show, was a huge misstep in the relaunch that we’ve thankfully finally recovered from. Terese is a fantastic character and Rebekah Elmaloglou is one of the shows best actors but even she can’t sell this.

 

So as much as it’s a shame to see a big character going, the show does need to move past keeping characters just for the sake of it, especially when they’re not working anymore. With Amazon involved I’m not sure this was a budget decision. Sonya, Mark and Sheila were all let go at the ten year mark when the show was struggling financially but I don’t think that’s the case now. Terese could have face a similar fate and they’ve brought Harold back so I’m not sure money is a huge issue though Ryan’s salary would make room for new cast.

 

I sound pretty negative but I’ve not got it in for Ryan Moloney or anything-I actually met him back in 2007 and he’s a great guy but the show needs to rest Toadie.

My husband watches this on catch up and since he has been ill off work today we spent hours watching it... lol! It's so bad but actually kind of entertaining at the same time. :lol:

Looks to me based on the camera work, big obscuring objects and Wendy’s now bland wardrobe that Candice Leask must be pregnant. I hope they don’t screw up Wendy and Andrew to facilitate this.

 

Kiri appears to be consistent with the characterisation she had from 2022. She’s extremely high maintenance and cannot accept a partner who is even slightly less than perfect. Good riddance.

Kiri seems a very warm and friendly character on one hand, but extremely judgy on the other. I don't like the 'one more mistake for the rest of your life and I'm off' kind of mentality.

 

I'm assuming the Quinn situation - and whatever it looks like it's leading to (hopefully not cheating, but maybe some reflective time out) - will temporarily create a break for Wendy and Andrew, especially if Candice is going on maternity leave.
