Capital occasionally play non-singles by popular artists (Harleys in Hawaii by Katy Perry, Oops by Little Mix, several tracks from Ed's Divide album too, and recently Lil Nas X's SUN GOES DOWN), that doesn't change the fact that these aren't officially promoted singles. Visiting Hours isn't the official second single and Radio 2 adding it to their playlist doesn't change the track's status...!
August 21, 20215 yr It's all just semantics though isn't it? The definition of what is and what isn't a single is often quite blurred these days. And we have the power to decide. August 21, 20215 yr I agree that the definition can be blurry (especially where Radio 2 playlisting is concerned, they usually stick to official singles only), but when an artist literally says "it's not a single", I think that's as crystal clear as it gets :lol: Spotify playlisting doesn't really mean much to be fair, when Need to Know and Ain't Shit are both on Hot Hits while Doja's current single You Right isn't.

August 21, 20215 yr Author We all know how quickly charts, airplay and single releases can change. Just because Ed has a single planned for a few weeks time doesn't mean it won't be scrapped or changed to a buzz single. Who knew Radio 2 would cause a stir this week :kink:
August 21, 20215 yr I'm not sure why people are so eager to try and categorise Ed's releases as not being what he has directly said they are. First the kerfuffle over whether '=' is his 4th or 5th studio album and now this. I agree it's, to some extent, down to interpretation what you want to consider to be a 'single' (or a 'studio album') if you insist on being contrarian (I like being a contrarian myself from time to time so I can't really complain xx) but like Joseph said I would think that this case is about as transparent as it gets, it can't be too often that artists explicitly state 'this is not a single, my next single is coming on [insert date]' :lol: (I'd understand some cynicism if he was retrospectively calling it a buzz single following it underperforming or whatever but it's not even that, he said before the song was even released that it isn't the next single - was the same with 'Afterglow' as well)
August 22, 20215 yr ‘Visiting Hours’ is just a promo single the same as ‘How Would You Feel’ from Divide was and that debuted at number 2 and got a few plays on radio at the time if I remember rightly. There’s no way Ed would have released the proper 2nd single on a Thursday anyway.
