An interesting update this week! worst behavior is a surprise in particular, and Boney M. on the playlist :cheeseblock:  Not sure why they're clinging to that MK track so much, it's been there for months and he's charting with a completely different song now!

great they added Ella&Tom
Unfortunately they're playing the Luca Schreiner remix!

Yeh they cant have an acoustic artist with real instruments on their station clearly

Yeh they cant have an acoustic artist with real instruments on their station clearly

Afterglow and WITHOUT YOU both stand out as acoustic tracks with "real instruments"

(I don't blame them for wanting to keep the vibe generally upbeat, I do wish they wouldn't resort to the remixes so much but they don't do it for every song)

Blimey! Capital fm are getting on my nerves now!! Luca shreiner will be the death of me - excuse me for being a bit dramatic. Capital is a pop / Chr radio station I do not understand why they resort to rhythmic remixes for songs that are doing better with their original version which most people are familiar with and to top it all off the originals wouldn’t sound out of place at all. What’s next? Will they moving regular pop songs to radio x regardless of if they are rock/alternative/indie/metal/punk? But then they also do not play urban songs on capital and leave them for capital xtra so their direction is very confusing! THEY NEED TO SORT THEMSELVES OUT!!
Yeah I have to agree I find it frustrating that they insist on playing Luca Schreiner remixes when they're always less popular (and worse) than the original versions!

I didn’t actually realise they were both on there as their normal selves Tbh just always think of the remixes of Adele they put on there. Always annoys me the way they don’t play a bit of indie music!

it's a pop station, nobody that wants to hear indie music will play Capital, so not surprising they never playlists indie songs

good to have KOL finally in at least R2 even if it's the C-list and just 1 week before the album

Never going to happen as Global have Radio X for that.

Speaking of, here's their current playlist from earlier in the week:

Biffy Clyro - North Of No South

Foo Fighters - Shame Shame

Foo Fighters - Waiting On A War

Jake Bugg - All I Need

Kings Of Leon - The Bandit

Nothing But Thieves - Impossible

Rag'n'Bone Man - All You Ever Wanted

Richard Ashcroft - Bring On The Lucie (FREDA PEOPLE)

Royal Blood - Trouble's Coming

Royal Blood - Typhoons

Tom Grennan - Little Bit Of Love

Tracks get on average 5 spins a day (no more than the Radio 1 A List really)

Exactly, and there are whole stations designated to indie music, and R&B + hip-hop music. No harm in a station that plays almost exclusively pop.

Never going to happen as Global have Radio X for that.

I'd actually listen to Radio X if they didn't play the same old songs between the new ones, it gets nauseous!

Absolute Radio 20's is a good one for current indie music, they don't have a set playlist but in the last hour they've played:

Kelly Jones - Dakota

Celeste - Love Is Back

Declan McKenna - Rapture

Green Day - Father of All

Kings of Leon - The Bandit

You Me At Six - Suckapunch

Passenger - Sword From the Stone

The Killers - Blowback

Gerry Cinnamon - Ghost

Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over the Country Club

Tom Walker - Just You & I

Nothing But Thieves - Impossible

Glass Animals - Heat Waves

Liam Gallagher - One Of Us

Royal Blood - Typhoons

The Snuts - Somebody Loves You

Catfish and the Bottlemen - Encore

AC/DC - Realize

Well, you say that, but up until about 15 years ago, Capital and other local stations happily playlisted commercial rock and indie alongside pop and dance. I'm not sure what happened really.

I'm a pop lover but I do think it's a shame that there's so little space in the mainstream now for guitar bands. It would just give a bit more flavour to the charts.

That Nothing But Thieves record is a perfect example of a recent rock track that should've been a massive radio hit - if only the likes of Capital were willing to be a little less safe. I don't think a song like that would make their listeners turn over.

I'm sure part of the reason Mr. Brightside continues to do so well is because mainstream music fans aren't being exposed to new rock music as much anymore.

They rarely get onto playlists like HHUK which make hits, but if bands like Nothing But Thieves, Catfish, IDLES etc can still sell out arena tours (probably making more money for the label than streaming-reliant acts) - they don't need to spend money on playlist positions.
