The EDL have targeted Brighton several times before. The first time they were roundly ignored so they came back and started causing trouble in Kemptown and attacking gay people. 3rd time they came they were faced with a large contingent of locals facing off against them. They returned with ttwice the number a few months afterwards and were basically run out of town with the police having to protect them.

Oh yeah, then they cancelled the next one they announced in 2015

Brighton really doesn't like fascists. Even the ones that live here know to keep their mouths shut and their heads down.

Would have been funny to see them try it on the weekend just gone, with Pride in town.

  • I’m not sure giving the public more information right there and then would have changed anything. The morons still would have rioted no matter what information was at their disposal.

I fundamentally don't understand the point Liam is trying to make. Why should the general public know detailed facts from ANY ongoing criminal investigation in real-time unless it is a warning of a d

I've been sent a list of a number of towns and cities on the list for Weds night at 8pm, including Brighton. The counter protest is already mobilising.

I mean I'm glad that there are counter protests but I wish it would all stop.

the solidarity + peaceful protest from the local community in Birmingham today quite comfortably overwhelmed the (perhaps surprisingly small) amount of far-right idiots. the fact people are willing to come out in numbers to stand up against fascism and Islamophobia is at least indicative that the national opinion is massively against the horrors we're seeing in our towns and cities at the moment. that's something to hold on to - I don't think things will stop immediately but I do imagine over the next days and weeks the riots and 'protests' will start to wind down into irrelevancy once more. :)

Sadly the one near me ended up descending into violence. I don't know if there were police about.

About 400 arrests since the riots began last week as per BBC News.

As do we all, but if nobody stands against them they'll only be more emboldened. At some point they need to be faced down. The sooner they see they're not welcome the sooner they'll go back in the shadows. It won't make them go away completely but it will allow the public to get back to some kind of normality and for the police to concentrate on identifying the ringleaders.

oh no  I saw clips of the counter-protestors by Bordesley Green McDonalds earlier and it said there had been no violence on either side. a real shame that didn't stay the case :(

It seemed okay for a while, but they slashed a car's tyres and ended up in Yardley where they attacked a man in a beer garden.

This is one of those things I should really switch off from but my fear seems to have taken over.

Supposed to be immigration centres and immigration solicitors next isn't it?

I read that he was the landlord just trying to protect his pub.

First sentence imposed for the riots.

18-year-old James Nelson from Bolton has been jailed for two months for causing criminal damage in the Bolton riots. He was also ordered to pay £4,999 compensation by December.

Yeah, about 50 of them from all over the country. Many are just advice centres and lawyers' offices.

Quoting this before you coward edit it away again.

'Legitimate concerns', good lord. The peaceful protests are by-and-large the anti-racists, and non-white people are being attacked for their skin colour, nearly exclusively done by white people. You xenophobe.

That last paragraph is disgusting, I'm not even going to go into why as I'm sure you know. Nobody should be scared to leave their house because of their race or religion.

Oh my goodness, words fail me.

I usually know what to say but just wow…
