Just had a look at the Christmas takeover presenters and saw Rio Fredrika is one of them. She had the weekday mid-morning slot on Capital for a couple of years, there’s definitely some other aspiring radio presenters who would’ve loved a slot on Radio 1 Dance for a few days!

  • For anybody interested, the Official Chart of the Year will be happening this year on Boxing Day from 2-6pm. It is with Dan Draper this year who I think is a new name to the chart.

  • It is an odd choice but I think Tom Grennan will feel bigger to young people.

  • Listening back to Jack Saunders’ show from last Thursday and he announced it already… Gorillaz.

Radio 1 just censored the word ‘damn’ in Christmas Wrapping, Britain is not full of bible thumpers and Britain is a liberal country that never censors that word on the radio

Merry Christmas

Odd because I swear the clean version of Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso is “my give a damn’s are on vacation”.

Merry Christmas to you too!

Would guess they just play whatever clean version is sent to them by labels (unless there's other content they need to cut out), they usually don't censor damn/goddamn. Want to say the official radio edit of Denial Is A River cuts it out too, think a lot of edits nowadays have the US bible belt in mind. Merry Christmas!

Some great pairings in Ore and Swarzy and now Lauren (Redfern) and Emil today. Perhaps the daytime schedule could have a bit of a refresh to accommodate some of these? I noticed that Emil has now left Absolute Radio, he'd be perfect for R1 permanently

Tuned in towards the end of Oré and Swarzy’s show and I agree they sounded very good, I think the daytime schedule needs a full-on refresh next year along with a daytime show for Sam and Danni. They’ve definitely earned it!

Give Sam and Danni the Going Home show tbh

Agreed.

Whatever happens Jamie needs to go, he clearly can’t commit to Going Home. If they have to keep him on somewhere, then maybe give him some pre-recorded specials or something would be better for him and the station.

meanwhile i’m doing my own anthems countdown runthrough and radio 1 didn’t censor “my girlfriend’s bitching” in She’s Kinda Hot by 5SOS?

BBC Radio 1 Most Played 2025

2026 has arrived and get what else has come with it? You guessed it! The annual review of the most played songs and artists on BBC Radio 1 during 2025.

As usual, I used the Radio 1 Last.fm page to be able gather the data which can be searched publicly. The numbers cover a 24hr/365-day period from the 1st January-31st December meaning live shows including daytime, evenings, repeats and simulcasts with Radio 1Xtra, Radio 1 Anthems and Radio 1 Dance are included. Some songs and artists numbers will be combined because they may have been listed as a separate song or artists and some things like live performances of their songs or an official remix that they are pushing as their main release will also be included though not all remixes will be combined. I will mention where I combined songs or artists figures for transparency and for more accuracy. I do find it more difficult to combine artists because some collaborations are listed as a different artists so in this instance, I implement a 15 page rule than anything that goes beyond page 15 on Last.fm is not included.

As ever with technology, there may be missing or inaccurate data due to issues with a play not being recorded or technical issues with the scroller but hopefully I can present a good enough reflection of what the data shows. Any feedback is welcome as to what I can improve in the future, I think this is about my 6th year posting this and hopefully I have done a good using the data as best as possible even if it is sometimes awkward to use at times!

With that rambling out of the way, here is the most played of 2025 and a Happy New Year to everyone, here's to another year of Radio 1!
