BBC Radio 1 to air Calvin Harris homecoming

BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1 Dance will broadcast Calvin Harris live from Hampden Park across the UK on Saturday 1 August.

The Glasgow performance will also be shown on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with coverage available through BBC Sounds.

Calvin Harris: Live from Scotland will feature a set spanning the Scottish DJ and producer’s career, with the broadcast produced by BBC Studios Music Productions alongside Sony Music Vision and three six zero.

BBC iPlayer will begin its dance music programming at 6.30pm, showing highlights from Radio 1 in Ibiza before coverage of the Hampden Park concert.

The performance forms part of the BBC’s Summer of Music 2026, which includes programmes featuring Charli xcx and Sam Smith, documentaries about Madonna, Wham! and David Bowie, and coverage from Radio 1 events in Ibiza and Malta.

Calvin has appeared at Radio 1’s Big Weekend seven times, including the Glasgow event in 2014 and a headline performance in Coventry in 2022.

Jonathan Rothery, Head of BBC Popular Music TV, said: “There are few artists who have shaped contemporary dance music quite like Calvin Harris.”

Jonathan added that the BBC was pleased to bring the Glasgow performance to audiences throughout the UK.

The concert will be directed by James Barnes, with Alison Howe serving as executive producer for BBC Studios. It was commissioned by Jonathan for BBC Popular Music TV.

SIX presenters set to leave Radio 1 in schedule shakeup

Daytime programming changes are coming to BBC Radio 1 as six presenters are set to depart.

Rickie and Melvin will leave Radio 1 after seven years, along with Dean McCullough, Nat O’Leary, James Cusack and Swarzy.

This means new presenters for early breakfast, mid-mornings and weekend breakfast.

Mylo and Rosie will take over weekday Early Breakfast every day from 4am until 7am, having first appeared through Radio 1’s presenter development initiative in 2025, and previously a big hit in West Yorkshire on Pulse 1.

Charlie Hedges and Jeremiah Asiamah will host Radio 1’s Live Lounge from September, weekday mornings from 10.30am and 1pm.

Charlie said she and Jeremiah could bring a chaotic energy to the programme, while also sending her “love and respect” to Rickie and Melvin.

Jeremiah described the appointment as a full circle moment after listening to the Live Lounge while travelling home from college in 2017.

Rickie and Melvin will leave Radio 1 after seven years, along with Dean McCullough, Nat O’Leary, James Cusack and Swarzy.

Rickie and Melvin said: “Presenting on the station has been an unforgettable experience, and we are incredibly grateful to the entire team and, most importantly, our brilliant listeners.”

Vicky Hawkesworth will be joined by Charley Marlowe between 10.30am and 1pm from Friday to Sunday, while Emil Franchi becomes the presenter of Weekend Breakfast.

Lauren Layfield will host The Official Chart: First Look from Birmingham each Sunday between 4pm and 7pm. It will be the first Radio 1 programme of its kind to come live from the city.

GK Barry will also present a series of Radio 1 programmes during the year, beginning with a six-week run from 10 September at 1pm.

Sunday evenings will include Shanequa Paris and Oré Olukoga on Life Hacks, followed by Sian Eleri’s Chillest Show. Alyx Holcombe’s Indie Show moves to Tuesdays at 11pm.

The station’s new presenter showcase will move from Friday Early Breakfast to weekend mornings between 6am and 7am.

Mylo and Rosie say: “It’s really hard to put this feeling into words. Elated doesn’t quite cover it. We are two best friends who have shared a childhood dream of one day working at Radio 1 and we can’t quite believe it’s become a reality. We don’t think it’s sunk in yet, will it ever? The listeners of Radio 1 have welcomed us to the family with open arms and to have our own show and be able to talk to them every morning on Early Breakfast means more to us than they will ever know.”

Aled Haydn Jones, Head of BBC Radio 1, says: “Charlie and Jerry taking the reins of Radio 1’s Live Lounge marks an exciting new chapter. I can’t wait for listeners to experience the energy, chemistry and unpredictability they’ll bring to one of the station’s most iconic shows.

“We’re also delighted to welcome GK Barry and Charley Marlowe to brand-new programmes on the network, where they’ll each bring their own unmistakable humour, personality and wit. I love that The Official Chart: First Look becomes its own show and as a first for Radio 1, will be coming live from Birmingham, hosted by the brilliant Lauren Layfield. Mylo and Rosie will be the perfect soundtrack to the early mornings, and Emil Franchi takes over Weekend Breakfast with the warmth and energy that makes him such a natural fit.

“The new schedule brings together the world’s best DJs with the very best new music from the UK and beyond – and it all starts this September.”

GK is only doing a "series of shows across the year, kicking off with an initial run on 10 September at 1pm for 6 weeks".

Disappointed to see the chaos with Going Home is set to continue. It’s about time Aled put his foot down with Jamie and told him he’s there or he’s not. If they have to keep him, get him to record some shows for Anthems so they’re not so reliant on him.

Also - interesting to see The First look chart 4-7pm on Sundays making it longer than the main chart show on Fridays.

yeah this is like the first thing they should be dealing with!

i have to assume there'll still be a lot of chat in there, it feels weird tho (and i'll miss shaniqua if she doesn't make the transition)

NAT NO no

Swarzy will stay on 1Xtra i take it

Not them actually breaking up Rickie, Melvin and Charlie 😭

DICKHEAD DEAN IS GONE cheeseblock

also James already out? he just joined?? Nat hasn’t been here for long either.

Going Home not changing at all like Vick doesn’t need to be dumped. I agree with Jamie overtaking anthems tho (preferably pop so we don't lose Lau Redfern)

also what the hell is happening with Shanequa?

that’s matt and mol’s spot.

also life hacks after the first look is so 😭. Glad we’re keeping shanequa tho I would have been livid if we lost her after just 2 years of her joining the family. Nat leaving still wrecks me though.

Any Capital presenters leaving???

does this say capital discussion? don't be stupid 🫩

ok if indie is moving the tuesday then which specialist slot is going? i guess that the long first look is going to be a showcase for new chart music as well as a rundown but i'm not convinced we need 3 hours of that? sunday starting to look like a mess tbh, i liked sian after the chart update

My thoughts on the new schedule:

Charlie and Jerry - It's clear to me that Radio 1 really values Charlie as one of their top presenters, which, in my opinion, she is. I'm shocked to see her paired with Jerry though, I don't think they've ever presented a show together (other than Big Weekend or Ibiza broadcasts). I did think when Jerry covered Mollie on her maternity leave last year that they were getting him ready for a permanent slot.

GK Barry - I think I'm definitely in the minority of Radio 1 listeners that actually enjoyed her shows last year. I'm a bit confused about her slot though, as the press release says she'll be starting on 10th September at 1pm for 6 weeks, so no Matt and Mollie on Thursdays for 6 weeks then?

Vicky and Charley - I've enjoyed hearing Charley cover on Radio 1 in the past year and I think she fits the Group Chat format very well. Her big social media following could bring a few new listeners to the station as well. Pairing her with Vicky is a good choice as well.

Mylo and Rosie - I'm a HUGE fan of these two and I'm so excited for them to get a permanent slot, as well as the Early Breakfast show being extended by an hour!

Lauren Layfield - I've loved her since her work on Capital but I do think it's a bit strange to have the Official Chart: First Look longer than the actual Official Chart.

Emil Franchi - The more I hear him on Radio 1, the more I enjoy him and I think he will really suit this time slot.

Shanequa and Oré - I enjoyed hearing them on Life Hacks a few weeks ago and I think moving Life Hacks to the 7-9pm slot is a really good decision.

My thoughts on the presenters leaving:

Rickie and Melvin: I really enjoyed hearing both of them on Radio 1 and I'll miss them a lot but I think now is the perfect time for them to move on. I think they're most likely going to Radio 2.

Dean McCullough: I never enjoyed him on Radio 1 and I think he's definitely going to Hits Radio.

Nat O'Leary: A big shock for me. I always thought she was the strongest out of the Nat and Vicky pairing and would've been moving to daytimes in the future. I think she'll being going to KISS to replace Sam or if someone leaves Capital soon (Kemi or Aimee are most likely I feel) she'll go there. I'm very disappointed about this.

James Cusack - I'm definitely in the minority of Radio 1 listeners that didn't enjoy him but I think he suits commercial radio more. I think he's off to a Global station, I'm not sure which one though.

Swarzy - I've never really heard her but feels weird to see her leave just as the Oré and Swarzy cover pairing has started?

There's so many different scenarios as to why they've chosen to leave but maybe Dean, Nat, Vicky and James were told they wouldn't ever get a slot on daytime and so all of them bar Vicky chose to leave?

I think Kemi or Aimee could be leaving soon and Nat replaces them.

Ah good spot, without any actual changes it would be Martha getting the boot but maybe that's yet to be confirmed or didn't feel like an important announcement to make.

actually it looks like it’ll be sian’s future artists tuesday show getting the boot instead.

The motherquake that would be Nat and Esi back to back. The world would stop. 😭 and then on sunday you add tatum to the mix. Oh it would be OVER.

The press release said that Martha’s show is moving to Radio 1 Dance only so she isn’t leaving completely. She’s actually being used on Sunday evening on the Ibiza weekend which will be nice to see her utilised more
