Gaga fans will be happy

Bruno/Gaga up to #14 now, and up to #1 in the US, why the much better performance in the US?

They're both US artists and have gotten more support on streaming and such. The song also started going viral on TikTok which usually impacts the US quickly first. Plus it has a massive format appeal on radio in the US so I expect it'll likely be a big airplay hit which will help it challenge for #1 at some point.

If they were on HHUK from day 1 I think their UK numbers would've been a bit better. On the plus side the music video views have been good so far which has helped lift the songs initial UK start despite a slow start on Spotify and Apple. I need to double check Amazon later but I do know it started quite strongly there Saturday when I checked.

Edit: Managed to look at Amazon and they are #14 which is really good! Will likely be top 10 on there soon.

Shame they waited this long for icdiwabh video… could’ve pushed single 3 by now ugh

I would rather have a 3rd single in Autumn with a spooky theme music video for who's afraid of little old me to tie in with Halloween.

with such low streams, sure Sabrina can go to #1 with her next single/focus track on Friday

I wonder if with the help of low streams and Burna Boy, Coldplay can do well with 'We Pray' next week?

See numbers like this and it makes me wanna re-evaluate the whole chart run, as well as a lot of other hits. Is the Marcagi snap to reality coming next?

LCHai43.png

(still on Hot Hits UK & Today's Top Hits)

Also noticed some very odd behaviour on Spotify's monthly listener stats. Two days in a row (almost) every artist was down, and now they're all back up, but way over-compensating for that, and with seemingly no logic to who's been boosted the most. All the while, nothing drastic on the Global chart. Re-calibration I guess?

Yes I noticed that Ellie Goulding was in the 90s most listened to in the world with 38.5 mill now she's 65th with 43.6 mill

I noticed it suddenly dropped about 20 places on Monday after being very stable. What does that number relate to exactly?

The number I highlighted is the day-by-day change for the 7-day rolling total. In simpler terms, it's how many streams it got compared to 7 days prior. Tends to be a better measure of momentum than just the daily change since different days of the week tend to fluctuate and miss the bigger picture.

Ah right thank you. The loss would make sense if it had been taken off HHUK or something, but where on earth is it coming from.

Another song that I'm very convinced is being artificially boosted currently is Unwritten. It had started to drop off and then had a sudden boost to recover a lot of that loss.

I am starting to think the Spotify chart is almost completely fraudulent, as it seems any song, old or new can have its streams inexplicably massively inflated or deflated without any clear reason behind it.

Outside is charting in several countries, not sure if that explains it? It has over 1.1M streams daily.

I reckon the numbers are legitimate in the sense that the songs were listened to (a lot of the odd behaviour shows up on last.fm stats and they're not faking that). But it feels like the differential of agency for the streams is less important than ever. The chart gives off the impression that there are a lot of people who pick and choose their current faves to listen to, or have current hits playlists they cycle through, but it's too farfetched on a greater level. I don't entirely doubt that these songs got popular in the first place from user input & curiosity, but at some point they just get taken over by the reaper of algorithmic stream allocation. Makes it hard to get invested in the month to month movement when it doesn't seem to mean as much.

The biggest bummer of it all though is the way it just guts the local flavour. The Australian festival circuit is falling apart at the moment. A lot of people are blaming bad line ups, but it feels like they're just being steered away from local artists on discovery platforms, so there's no value to get from reinforcing line ups beyond headliners anymore. I fear the flow-on effects will only get worse.

Bruno/Gaga up to #13

big re-entry for Taylor-Florida, guess cos of the London show with Florence showing up to do the song

sad to see C&S losing so much steam :/

2 weeks at number 1 is great and I’m sure they’ll be happy with that. It’ll be nice now for Chappel or Billie to get a #1.

Hopefully Sabrina doesn’t gain +100K with the release of her new album on PPP/Espresso gets reset.

Edited by BellyClarkson

Sabrina is pushing ‘Taste’ next as it has a (seemingly) big budget video premiering tomorrow alongside the albums release. Espresso and PPP may be back on SCR but ‘Taste’ will probably be number 1!
I’m not convinced the Sabrina impact is going to be as big as some people are predicting tbh
