Posted August 21, 2024Aug 21 Let's do a positive one! There are so many awesome shows from the early 21st century. What are your favourite underrated ones? I'll start. Sugar Rush - amazing C4 show with a killer soundtrack. The two main stars, Olivia Hallinan and Lenora Critchlow went on to star in Lark Rise to Candleford & Being Human respectively.
August 21, 2024Aug 21 I'm currently watching one on Disney+ which I didn't know of at the time, it's called Burn Notice, set in Miami, and this guy whose been burned by his former employers has to solve whose out to get him. Seems pretty good so far, but I'm only two seasons in.
August 21, 2024Aug 21 I'd say My Wife and Kids. Enjoyed watching it but doesn't feel overly talked about in comparison to other shows of that ilk.
August 21, 2024Aug 21 I did a top 50 sitcoms thread way back which I should update really, as there's been some crackers since then like Ghosts and my current fave that isnt that well-known, What We Do In The Shadows. Very funny. Most of my fave drama shows are popular or cult anyway, but there's some from the 90's which only got shown on SKY and so are forgotten utterly these days, despite being very good - sitcom Parker Lewis Can't Lose was groundbreakingly inventive (Malcolm In The Middle clearly influenced), Space: Above & Beyond from the X-Files team, soldiers vs aliens in space. Earth-2 (pioneers on a new mysterious planet), Strange Luck (inter-twined incidents that happen during an episode and plot, and Early Edition, tomorrows newspaper inexplicably arrives at a flat each morning, and the hero gets to try and change terrible things from happening after it becomes apparent if he doesn't everything in the newspaper comes true.
August 21, 2024Aug 21 Utopia, beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted and actually a hell of a lot to say about society (prophetic in some senses x). Utterly criminal this only had two seasons and then a shitty American remake.

The big 3 of Disney Channel at the time is Even Stevens / Lizzie McGuire / That's So Raven (with a special mention for Proud Family & Kim Possible bc of Circle of Stars) now a Disney Channel staple that doesn't get talked about as much as the sitcoms? Has anyone ever heard of Life With Derek? CxNZYNMoMZ4 (side note: blended families were such an overused archetype in the 2000s lmaoooo)

I also think 'Being Human' deserves to be here too (well the first 2 series anyway!) There was a show called 'Dead Set' where it was Big Brother but with Zombies done by Charlie Brooker (I believe?) which was incredibly underrated! As a child there was a CBBC show called 'Jeopardy' (a kids show about UFO's/Aliens) and it was incredibly terrifying for a kids show!
