Taste is on track to become the US sensation’s third UK Number 1 single in less than 6 months. Taste follows the success of Sabrina's previous two chart-topping singles; Espresso and Please Please Please, which topped the Official Singles Chart for a combined total of 12 weeks earlier this year. This brand new single, a killer pop-rock kiss-off to an ex and his new partner, carries a killer melody with chugging, jagged slacker-rock guitars. It's music video, inspired by camp classic Death Becomes Her, also stars Scream queen Jenna Ortega. Plus, two more tracks from new album Short n’ Sweet could end the week inside the UK Top 10; former chart-topper Please Please Please (5) and the disco-y Good Graces (10). Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are expected to reach a brand new peak with Die With A Smile up one midweek (6). Sonny Fodera, Jazzy and D.O.D are one step closer to a Top 10 breakthrough on Somedays, currently expected to rise to Number 11. Finally, Teddy Swims’s slow-burn hit The Door is predicted to enter the UK Top 20 for the first time on Friday (18).
August 25, 20241 yr Sabrina’s label would be stupid to deny Taste #1 by requesting resets for Please Please Please and Espresso Edited August 25, 20241 yr by Hadji
August 25, 20241 yr Sabrina’s label would be stupid to deny Taste #1 by requesting resets for Please Please Please and Espresso They won’t be requesting it, it will be an automatic reset providing it gets a 25% increase for both tracks
August 25, 20241 yr Sabrina’s label would be stupid to deny Taste #1 by requesting resets for Please Please Please and Espresso if those two gain enough they’ll be reset automatically regardless of what the label wants I expect Taste will end up being a number one single anyway - even if PPP regains it this week
August 25, 20241 yr but actually isn't there a rule that the label can ask for a change? I think it only affects the 3rd song. think that labels can potentially decide on the 3rd charting song? so they could say we don't want espresso to be the 3rd song...
August 25, 20241 yr Tuned in for this this week since my planned SyncTube session for the day didn't pan out. 'Taste' is maybe marginally better than 'Please Please Please' but it's still another really boring track from her, I don't understand how these songs are following 'Espresso' to #1 which I also am not a huge fan of but at least can see why it's a big hit. On a more positive note I did quite like 'Good Graces' at least, has a bit more life to it, a bit Ariana-esque. Shame it'll presumably not actually be in the final chart since 'Espresso' will likely be reset. Hope Gaga/Bruno can challenge for top 5 by the end of the week but not sure how likely that is.

Yes think they could but I understand it would mean “Espresso” would be chart ineligible for 6 months, and would they really want to do that to what is clearly her biggest and signature song?
August 25, 20241 yr I would guess Espresso can be ahead of Good Graces even on ACR this week - the streams on Spotify were 533k vs. 288k already on Saturday.
August 25, 20241 yr Fascinating to see how this turns out and whether OCC decides to change its own rules or find a loophole we didn’t know exists. Otherwise with that current position, I can’t see Please Please Please not being number 1. Surprised to see it so far ahead of Espresso though - unless OCC have already enacted a ‘you can remove your track number 3 from the chart’ rule.
August 25, 20241 yr It's times like these I wish we could see a no ACR and 3 track only rule of the chart.
August 25, 20241 yr It would be pretty annoying if ‘Espresso’ lost its consecutive chart run due to the album release, hope it stays in there!

I think it's more the sales of the tracks are extremely close , think there was something like 4 thousand sales being the difference between being 8 or 20 on this week's chart
August 26, 20241 yr I think Oasis could have a few climbs in the charts this week, time flies should see a nice climb.
August 26, 20241 yr I was looking at the chart rules pdf and the rule is actually that a label can request track 4 to replace track 3, if track 3 is not top 20. That's the rule. So on paper Espresso couldn't be replaced cos it's top 20. But yes, as mentioned by Julien above, if replaced Espresso would be banned from the charts for 6 months. Actually the rules say you can also request to change the 2nd track, with similar rules. ii) A UK rights owner/licensee may elect to exclude the third bestselling single by an artist and replace it with their fourth bestselling track if the third bestselling track is outside of the Top 20 chart positions. Tracks excluded in this way cannot become chart eligible again for a period of six months. iii) In exceptional circumstances, a UK rights owner/licensee may elect to exclude the second bestselling single by an artist and replace it with their fourth bestselling track if the second bestselling track is outside of the Top 20 chart positions on the Accelerated Chart Ratio. Tracks excluded in this way cannot become chart eligible again for a period of six months.

Feel the same. Espresso is zero my thing but I can see why it's the song of the year and what an earworm it is. But PPP, it's not it. You can tell Jack Antonoff is involved and he probaby removed all the joy it originally had! Taste is much better.
August 26, 20241 yr I'm the opposite. Please Please Please is completely up my street, and so are Taste and Juno. But I'm much more into that 80s inspired pop sound than the Say So-esque production style of Espresso, which I still enjoy - and completely see why it was massive - but don't seek out to listen to as much myself as the others. I don't think I'd have bought the album based just on Espresso personally but I did based on the other songs and am glad I did, I love it. I don't see any issue with Jack personally, I like his production style, and he produced the song in your signature for one. Edited August 26, 20241 yr by gooddelta
