October 25, 2024Oct 25 Great news! Still need to check out her first album, but 'American Teenager' is incredible.
November 11, 2024Nov 11 'Punish' is a stunner - consider me hyped for the whole album, wow at those track lengths! *.*
January 10Jan 10 Definitely an ambitious album but I can't say it's an album I will return to again. A very difficult one to go through from start to end (which is intentional) so I appreciate the vision, but I'll be sticking to Preacher's Daughter.
January 11Jan 11 Definitely an ambitious album but I can't say it's an album I will return to again. A very difficult one to go through from start to end (which is intentional) so I appreciate the vision, but I'll be sticking to Preacher's Daughter. Agreed, she definitely set out to do something and fully achieved it but it was absolutely not something I enjoyed listening to or want to listen to again. But honestly good for her for just still doing whatever the hell she wants and not chasing more and more popularity which would have been so easy for her. She did say on Tumblr the fan theories she made this deliberately to alienate people as she was getting too popular aren’t true she just wanted to make some drone music so that’s what she did
January 12Jan 12 I did wonder if I'd be in the right headspace to listen to this, as the inspiration for 'Punish' is very dark, but turns out that and 'Amber Waves' are the only tracks that she kept from the original 'deviants' concept that was planned. Instead, the unpalatable factor was moreso the dense, long instrumental drone production that often feels like a horror movie, but I was into it for the most part - 'Housofpsychoticwomn' was giving me heart palpitations in the best kind of way  apparently she's not very familiar with the work of David Lynch which surprises me as I could totally imagine some of this stuff soundtracking his work, from what I know so far. Random thoughts: - I was following along with all the lyrics while listening to this and got a jumpscare flashback to A Level sociology when reading that 'Pulldrone' was inspired by a Baudrillard theory  - Loved the transition into the beginning of 'Onanist' and the vocals are gorgeous on that one. - Lol at the acoustic-driven 'Etienne' providing a soothing breather... until the pretty masochistic spoken outro, instantly followed by 'Thatorchia' which was making my skin feel itchy for the first 5 minutes *_* yeah, that one is closest to 'unlistenable' for me but I did really like the shoegazey final couple of minutes, so I'm conflicted. - 'Amber Waves' was a beautiful choice of closer. I think that, 'Punish' and 'Housofpsychoticwomn' are my initial holy trinity. Mmm a lot of this is very haunting so I'll need to be in the right mood going forward but I picked a good time for listen #1 as the intensity was generally hitting for me. Maybe it can be my Halloween soundtrack this year.
January 15Jan 15 Author Onanist defo another highlight in this album on top of Punish. This is the sort of stuff I would come across in Fresh Finds Experimental so it's a wild listening experience for me!
