1994's Christmas number one - and still one of the best, in my honest opinion - is celebrating its 30th anniversary next month with a special 7" vinyl reissue on "ice clear" vinyl:

It's the festive favourite that denied Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You of 1994's Christmas Number 1, and now East 17 have announced plans to celebrate 30 years of Stay Another Day.

Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy and Terry Coldwell's seasonal staple has been covered by the likes of Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue and Jorja Smith over the years, but it's time to shine the spotlight back on the original in aid of Nordoff and Robbins.

The Ivor Novello award-winning track, which spent five weeks atop the Official Singles Chart, enters the 2024 Christmas Number 1 race with an anniversary reissue on 7-inch 'ice clear' vinyl.

For purchases made via stayanotherday.co.uk, London Records will be donating £1 to Nordoff and Robbins Music Therapy.

East 17's Tony Mortimer says:

"Through this collaboration with Nordoff and Robbins, I really want to raise awareness of how music can offer hope, expression and healing to people everywhere.

"This 30-year anniversary is more than just a celebration of a song - it’s a call to remember the profound impact that music can have on our lives, particularly in moments of struggle.

"By raising money for life-changing music therapy, I’m also looking forward to making a difference to young people who are living with mental health problems.

"Together, we can ensure that the power of music continues to uplift and support those who need it."

In support of the partnership, Tony will perform a special rendition of the track at the Nordoff and Robbins Carol Service in London on Tuesday December 10.

I loved East 17 and bought every one of their singles and albums... but Stay Another Day is not one I would ever seek out to listen to.
Im glad to see this getting a bit of a push, i dont love it but i like it and it would be nice to see it chart a bit higher this year.

You're joking, aren't you? It's one of the best tracks in their discography! Obviously won't be going anywhere near #1 but hopefully it can chart a little higher this year than usual.

I prefer 'House of Love' and 'Let It Rain' but I still think 'Stay Another Day' is a good ballad with atmospheric production.

I didn't realise until a few years ago that they were still going. Only one original member though but they seem to get gigs on the legacy circuit.
Stay another day and it’s alright are their two best tracks.

I'd be swapping out "Thunder" for "If You Ever" with Gabrielle personally...

I really love Each Time from the E-17 era - which debuted at No.2 on this day 26 years ago :drama:

But otherwise agree with Stay Another Day, Deep, It's Alright and If You Ever. Other than that I wasn't fussed.

Had a bit of time this afternoon, so thought I would put the 16 singles they released as the original four-piece in a rate.

Stay Another Day doesn't make my Top 10.

3. Steam

4. Thunder

5. Around the World

6. Deep

7. Someone to Love

10. West End Girls

11. Stay Another Day

12. Hold My Body Tight

13. If You Ever

14. Slow It Down

15. Do U Still

16. Hey Child

Not a Christmas Song :nono:

That's 90s and early 00s for you anything that had a bit of snow in the video was classed as a Christmas song

I mean definitely more so if it was released either late November or December. But I genuinely miss those days when you had pop bands going for a slightly wintry theme with a ballad near to Christmas!

Of course people will berate that they get annual replay on what music channels are left now but it's no worse than passive streams of Mariah and Wham for nigh on six / seven weeks.

Hold My Body Tight is fav of mine.

If You Ever is number 1 tho!

I'd MUCH rather hear this played on repeat during the festive season than the likes of Mariah and Wham!

  • 3 weeks later...

Out of curiosity I went and listened to all their top 10 singles as I couldn't hum any single one of them bar SAD. And good grief, what a load of crap seriously! The only one I didn't mind was actually the aptly named It's Alright.

SAD I do like as a song but it's never a Christmas song in my book.
