Trump's nomination to head the FBI is an all-out believer in the idea that the 2020 election was rigged. He has promised to "bring to justice" those who were involved in the non-existent fraud.

Joe Biden pardoned his son in what must be the most blatant misuse of a pardon I’ve ever seen. It seems some people are above the law. He repeated said he wouldn’t pardon him. Outright madness.

Why is it you always seem to find the most bad misuses of XYZ to be done by left leaning people?

I wouldn’t say I found this story, it’s a major story. You can’t overlook abuse of power just because it’s from left leaning people, that’s just political tribalism. I do think there is a lot of moral superiority with people who call themselves left wing and often that doesn’t translate in actions. Look at Gaza recently. Worst stuff I’ve ever seen and Starmer Harris/Biden just gave hot air.

I saw Nate Silva had a similar take and I believe he is more left leaning himself. There is a reason why both major parties in the US and UK end up being two sides of the same coin constantly, that’s because a lot of people get sucked into the tribalism instead of the principles.

Republicans elected Epstein's best frienf and seditionist. The left is now morally superior, and let's face it ... it always has been.

Not in the sense of discovering the story.

In the sense of. Maybe I haven't seen enough of your posts or am getting a biased vignette but it feels like you judge more harshly things done by Labour/Democrats while turning a blind eye to similar actions done by Trump or Tory leaders like they are just baked in to the system.

It's a revealing of implicit biases, not just Liam sota but anyone who talks about this, and indeed lots of Americans who voted for Trump, blind with rage about something that Hunter Biden did, somewhere, as a totem of distrust of government, because they've bought into Trump (or, if they don't support Trump like I suspect LS, they've bought into the idea that the establishment is wrong and someone else needs to fix it). He's fixing things, you see and so can't be bad, ignore his many personal failings. Doesn't help when the media gives the same leniency to the right-wing or admonishes the left-wing for not being better.

not that Biden, Harris or Starmer are left-wing but that's neither here nor there. Well, I do see that there's a point of moral superiority coming from neoliberal consensus centre-left people, but their governments bring better outcomes on the whole so I'll afford them that. Then if they want to get elected in the future they need to embrace the populist left and not treat them worse than the supposed fascists the American centre left are happily handing the government over to. So on that point I do agree with Liam sota, but focusing in on the same specific point that every dumb small-government conspiracy theorist has been doing the entirety of the Biden administration as a way to make that point is not it.

When in reality Joe Biden probably did this because of the whole right-wing rage, his son was probably going to face incredibly punitive punishment because the right-wing vortex has villianised him and he had the power to protect his son. And that's all there really is to this specific case.

Looks like he's started his State visits early. In Paris today for a meeting at the Elysee Palace with Macron and Zelensky. Then on to the re-opening of Notre Dame Cathedral where he'll also have a short meeting with Prince William.

The Republicans seem to have to have masterfully created a political crisis for America yet again. The US government is heading for a shutdown again thanks to a GOP spending plan that even the GOP is split on  With even a slimmer GOP majority come January, this is probably not the last time that this'll happen over Trump's upcoming term. On the brighter side, Mike Johnson's foreseeable future as speaker seems doomed due to this + more GOP-induced crises such as this bodes well for Dems in 2026 in the House elections (Senate looks truly impossible tho).

It fsiled due to Elon Musk shouting fashy sruff about it  lol: True oligarchy over there now. It is GRIM.

The HOR are about to vote on the bill once again with the bill unlikely to pass thanks to nearly no changes whatsoever from Johnson. Rosa DeLauro delivered an incredible speech as well a few minutes ago which reiterated how the GOP are utter scumbags - removing funds for research and treatment for childhood cancer in the new, partisan revised spending plan etc.

Edit: Plot twist.... It seems as though the bill is about to pass amazingly :o Democrats seem to have come together to save the government from shutdown even though the spending plan is not bi-partisan whatsoever lol

Edit 2: The house has passed it, truly astonishing considering the circumstances

Trump has renewed his desire to claim Greenland for the USA. Denmark has responded by increasing funding for the defence of the territory. He isn't even President yet, and he has cost each Dane £200 per year.
Right now there is a huge right wing civil war over visas. Elon Musk wants a lot more visas for skilled tech mostly from India and this is seen as a betrayal by Trump’s base. A lot of them cancelling their blue ticks over it

No shock at all. The first of many times this will happen.

So the richest man in the world supports a policy that will make him even richer. The number of people surprised by this must be about the same as the number of people who think Liz Truss was the greatest PM ever.

Many on the US forums can't see him lasting the full term. He'll either assassinated, die from too many Big Mac and fries or be 25'd out. If he goes doolally Vance and the Cabinet will get him out. He'll never go voluntarily Some think he was just used to win due to his popularity with Vance the heir apparent.

All of those scenarios are probably quite likely, the first two more than the last I would say. There is a slight chance that he may step aside and let Vance take over as President so he doesn't have to partake in all the typical Presidential activities etc. In that scenario he would still be President (by whispering his commands into Vance's gullible ear and him executing them) but Vance would hold the official title.

Still, it is hard to see a dictator leaving office without death being a factor.

Trump seems fine to me, I don’t see why he won’t. He is quite active and those people have unlimited resources and the best medical care you could need. There are senators in their 90’s for a reason
