If anyone needs further proof Trump and his advisers have no idea what they are doing, see today’s latest quotes. 200% tariffs so people can buy US champagne that doesn’t exist 🤡

It’s not for that reason. It’s to hurt the EU who are specifically targeting Republican states

He literally said that it’s so people can buy US champagne, which of course, does not exist.

Honestly I read that and cackled. It’s the perfect demonstration of how just utterly Thick him and everyone involved in this charade are. Champagne is a Product or protected origin and so literally only can come from France. He’s gonna go after our food and drink sectors but like for much of the stuff there is no equivalent to the actual real deal and so all it’s gonna do is triple the price to the consumer and spike inflation

I don’t mind taking a light economic hit to watch American exceptionalism burn to the ground

In what way are they targeting specific states?

It’s been stated they went after things from Republican states to damage Trump. Kentucky Bourbon for example

Which wouldn't have happened if he hadn't put a dumb worldwide tariff on metals! Stupidity entirely of his own making.

Trump's now saying "they don't need anybody". Wonder if those odds of a US recession are going to keep on going up? I still think picking a war with Canada is the dumbest thing this administration can do. His whole arguments are batshit. I struggle to really understand how Canada selling the US cheap oil so they can sell their oil at higher prices is a bad thing. To expect a country 10x smaller than you to pump in money is plan lunacy.

LMAOOO at Putin setting peace term, well surrender terms, for a bloody ceasefire!!! It's a ceasefire! That's ir.

Tariffs are economic suicide, thats why sane nations done do them. Trump is hoping to cause the chaos of the 20's which led to the global depression of the 30's which led to fascists heaven, as it inevitably always. Ironically, the US wont be there this time to help save the world from invading fascists.

because while everyone is obsessing about trade wars, and threats of invasion - which might come down the line, but not just yet - Trump and his cronies have moved to Phase 2, which is to attack the media that doesnt bow the knee, to personally attack democratic pillars like Marc Elias, who keeps all governments from destroying democracy via legal action, and of course he's started attacking the judges and courts claiming he has the powers of a God and anyone who is against him is guilty of exactly what he is trying to do. Straight out of Mein Kampf and every other Fascist How To book.

Meanwhile democrats are still just moaning and bleating about the 2026 midterms as if that is going to do anything. Trump & Musk have control of the strings of government with no Senate or House oversight, refusing to comply with court orders to show exactly what they are up to, and Musk on twitter is now attacking the families of judges who try to save the Constitution. As always with Trump, they dont have a f***ing clue how to deal with him. To believe there will be a free and fair election is very naive, and as i have said before having the moral highground is a waste of time if you just sit back and watch democracy dying feeling morally superior that you are right and trying to get the truth through a quagmire of incessant daily lies and propaganda. That's also part of the fascist playbook.

Americans are going to have to ask themselves how bothered they are about having a democracy, and a lot of my friends in the USA (and Canada) loathe the Orange "Jesus", and what you are willing to stand up for. Bear in mind the Maga's stood up for what they wanted (the end of democracy, whether they were too stupid to realise or not) and got rewarded with Trump taking control 4 years later. When you see your grandparents, forces veterans, kids struggling to survive illness and poverty in the not-too-distant future and all branches of the US state under the control of a maniac, and oppositions getting targeted under fake charges and imprisoned it might be too late to do anything about it. Europe meanwhile, has to face life as the frontline of global democracy, and adjust to that and put a stop to any lies and propaganda spewing out of Russia, China and the USA. If it ain't a provable actual fact, then it's a lie intent on undermining democracy.

Am I being histrionic? Well, it's been 2 months, and it's happening in front of our eyes on a daily basis, and Democrats are like a bunch of headless chickens thinking "good, by 2016, everyone will be suffering and will turn on Trump" which in terms of a strategy is no strategy at all, much like the last election relying on old-fashioned "just tell the truth and that'll work". The internet has changed everything, time to accept that and do something about it.

US deports hundreds of Venezuelans to El Salvador despite...

Their arrival comes less than 24 hours after a federal judge blocked a law Trump planned to use for the deportations.

A bold move that shows the safety of Americans will not be undermined due to a judge

Why the actual f are you supporting fascism though??

The head of the executive has just ignored the judiciary. That is atrocious and constitutionally unsettling. And illegal.

If we're talking about the safety of Americans - Venezuelans are also Americans btw - should we start with the fact they have a CRIMINAL PRESIDENT WITH 34 FEDERAL CONVICTIONS?! One with the intellectual capacity of a toddler. That seems pretty unsafe for them.

They’re not regular Venezuelans escaping Maduro…they’re gang members. Not only is it a strong message and deterrent but it’s simply the obvious common sense thing to do. The bigger question is why a judge would try and block it? Surely the judge should be investigated to see what’s going on? You can dislike Trump many reasons to do so but he was democratically elected by the people.

ALLEGED gang members. ALLEGED doing a LOT of heavy lifting there, btw. All US citizens are privy to due process. That is ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS. Trump is just being heavy-handed, as Biden's policies were actually FAR more efficient in deporting criminal people. Trump's numbers are lagging behind, due to extremely bad and ecpensive publicity policies, and so ge elects to deport without due process. Pathetically weak, really.

The judge blocked it based on the constitution. They had every right to due process. That is why. It is the law. When you work well within the confines of the law, with well-developed policy, then you have better results, ala Biden.

The judges who REALLY need investigaring are the ones who let Trump off the hook, and justice Thomas. Also, being elected, by whatevee % , does not give the executive power over the judiciary. They are supposed to be separate branches.

I can't believe I'm having to say this: When a democratic leader ignores the independent judiciary, it is a bad thing. They are there to put checks on power and ensure that the law is consistently and properly followed from adminstration to administration. It's a classic authoritarian strongman move to sow distrust in courts, tell their supporters that their decisions are suspect, and finally, when they have enough power, blocking them and concentrating all power into their own hands.

It's not a bold move and it is despicable to say so, as that's just cover and an excuse for an anti-democratic, power-hungry wannabe dictator.

Reading some of the bullshit in this thread reminds me of why I dipped out in the first place.

How some of you manage to reply without losing your absolute rag I don't know.

"Oooh, Trump was DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED which is fine, that essentially gives him a license to do whatever he wishes and nobody can question it, but a judge following the rule of law, now THAT sounds suspicious..."

100%, I can't reply at all because I know if I do, I'll be stating some home truths and getting banned. 🥲

Well I mean your contributions tend to be wildly biased delulu. Didn’t you say you thought Trump and Elon illegally found a way to steal the election?

Judges in America are often politically biased and appointed by Presidents to their roles so you get some very sketchy judgements often overruled by different circuits.

Call me crazy but I tend to side with victims of bad people not bad people. The modern day human rights approach of punishing the victim twice and putting the rights of the criminal above all else is not something I have any time for though it’s very normalised in the UK.

As it happens Trump called for that judge to be impeached and a Supreme Court justice disagreed https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8j0vwpkwkxo

The only delulu behaviour here is your endless paragraphs of brain rot parroting and excusing literal fascist wannabe dictators. Clown.
