Have you not heard of checks and balances? Do you think a president should be able to disband opposition parties simply because he has been elected? Do you also think a British PM should be able to do whatever they like?

Republicans hold all 3 branches. People voted by the popular vote for Trump. If he can’t implement tariffs then what is the point? There is no bigger incitement to violence and extremism than telling people their vote is worthless and they’re powerless to change anything.

In this country it is becoming a problem that whoever wins it’s pretty much identical policies. Yes. I don’t know why anyone would be happy with that situation. Do you want a world where the truly powerful have ways to maintain the status quo no matter what and have various levers to block any attempt at changing anything? Seems to be your position.

Given that quite a few Trump voters have since admitted that they didn’t vote for all the crazy shit he’s doing, perhaps it’s a good thing there is a system designed to keep the president in check?

So there should be no check on what he is doing is actually legal within the constitution?

Separation of powers. The president has always had limited scope. That is the whole point. It's meant to stop fsscists like Stephen Miller from taking over x

They spend billions campaigning for President so some jobsworth judge in Oregon can decide tariff policy? Seems absurd to me

It being blocked tells you everything you need to know about Trump and the policy itself, not this supposed inconvenience of there actually being people there to stop him and others from doing more damage than he already has lol. You can spend billions on a campaign to become president and, funnily enough, make a positive difference in the world and introduce policies that won't end the way this embarrassment has.

Tell me you'd be making this much racket if it was a dem policy being blocked x

Maybe but surely if the house, congress and presidency and people all want something a judge shouldn’t be able to block it especially something like tariffs. I guess it’ll be up to the Supreme Court again very biased handpicked often activist judges to decide.

How can you say a judge knows it’s a bad policy so is blocking it 😂 the whole point of a democracy is you vote for things and if they’re bad policies then you get voted out and replaced by someone implementing different policies. It shouldn’t be for a judge to decide what policies are good or bad

The Supreme Court IS the handpicked, activist court!!! lol One of the Trump trials in Florida LITERALLY had a hand-picked, Trumpian, Trump appointed, activist judge!!

The court's role is to make sure the other branches don't overstep. It's their part of the checks and balances.

Could you ever imagine a UK leader doing this? Putting the UK workers first. Giving $5000 and implementing tariffs to keep manufacturing strong?

Trump: US to doubles steel import tariffs to 50%

President Donald Trump says the increase in tariffs will protect America's steel industry, along with an expected partnership with Japan.

On the negative side he said he doesn’t feel sorry for Biden’s cancer diagnosis and pondered whether he’d pardon p diddy. His personality can be truly terrible but he is showing other leaders how easy it is to stop China undercutting.

China will always undercut because they are still developing their industrial base whereas America is a service based economy. That’s not evil China doing it that’s capitalism!

Haha Liam, you are so blinded on this topic. It's Friday again so shock, the TACO has made an announcement, just like other fridays. Nothing peaks more like protecting jobs than selling US Steel to a Japanese company.

The US Steelworkers are loving it. Democrats ones quoted in the article supporting it.

Let’s go to the UK where Port Talbot is shut down and the Welsh feel abandoned and now you’re seeing they are becoming a reform stronghold. You have to respect your industries and workers. The UK let China takeover and run the industry into the ground while at the same time letting China undercut and import in cheaper Chinese steel. Just think how crazy that is. Do you know how stupid a country has to be to allow that to happen?

The UK is left with no industries or manufacturing and a bunch of underpaid unhappy or unemployed people and a rising welfare bill. All stems from stupid decisions like this. Trump is showing how it could have been prevented.

Excuse you, the media may make out like we’re becoming a Reform stronghold in Wales but Plaid are leading the polls right now.

The UK government not caring about Wales is nothing new, please stop using Wales to prop up your pro-Trump propaganda.

This was the recent vote in a Welsh by-election and most others been similar

also the last few polls I saw had reform overtaking Labour there by far and looking strong there though this is the only one I can find before reforms polling went through the roof

Just because you’re Welsh doesn’t mean you’re in touch with the majority of Welsh people and just because you don’t like something doesn’t make it propaganda

I’d expect in more in touch with the Welsh people than you are. You’ve selected some polls that support what you say yet have ignored others. You do that all the time and anyone can do that to fit what they want to say. Reform are a serious threat in Wales right now, I’m not ignoring that, but Reform do not care for Wales and have outright stated plans to strip us of OUR culture (the absolute irony of it.) Even if Reform get in in Wales, it will not go well for them.

And I’m not calling it propaganda because I disagree with it, I do so because that is how you operate in these threads. If Starmer suddenly started doing everything Trump is doing from tomorrow, you would perceive it to be bad or copying or not genuine or some other kind of criticism because it’s not the actions you hate, it’s Starmer. If Trump started implementing similar policies in the US to Starmer, you’d be saying how great it all is. That has been the way you have posted for a long time and one of the reasons that people don’t take you seriously here.

You make a lot of assumptions most of them wildly false. I don’t really care to get into your arguments about whether reform is good for Wales it’s just a fact they’re hugely strong in wales and favoured to be the biggest party there. You sort of said that yourself. Originally I was explaining what happens when you abandon industries and workers and often it’s financially draining a lower standard of life for people and more extreme parties getting power. Hence the need to protect them and tariffs are a major way to do so I think Port Talbot would still exist with tariffs and just because it’s trump illustrating that shouldn’t send your mind into a spin. The rest is just false assumptions, your own bias seeing imaginary things and so forth

The evidence is in all of your posts, it’s hardly imaginary.

Unless I’m wrong and you’re not biased at all, it’s really just everyone else who is biased.

Why would I be biased and what purpose would it serve? I’m going to say what I believe and not be affected by the environment I’m in always. In some quarters that’s a good thing and others maybe less so.

I could ask you the same thing about myself and other posters.

I’m saying what I believe and you’re the one calling it ‘imaginary’.

Yeah you made up a hypothetical situation and assumed what I’d say or do and then asserted that as fact. That’s purely imaginary. You have the unique ability to be on the wrong side of pretty much every issue I’ve ever seen you comment on so i don’t know what you’re really expecting from me. I’m going to see things how they are and you’re going to see things how you want to see them. Different personalities.
