My summary of the Trump Presidency so far is 6/10

Started well. Good on tariffs. Reduced border crossings by 90%. Some very good executive orders

Very much lost the plot on certain Middle Eastern issues

Started arresting people and trying to deport people for protesting

Betrayed many of his own voters from Venezuela & Lebanon

It’s all become a bit messy with no coherent direction and the results aren’t great

I just think he believes he has 4 years left and wants to cause chaos lol

I don't disagree with everything you say but giving a literal fascist dictatorship that is destroying everything America stood and claims to stand for "6 out of 10" is unhinged.

America is trillions upon trillions in debt. What they were doing wasn’t sustainable and despite the debt most citizens were poorer overall than they were 30-40 years ago. A drastic new vision was needed. The last month has been a little too toxic. Firing so many people(many of whom were veterans or his own voters) deporting people for protesting Israel. Deporting wrong people to El Salvador and not fixing it quickly. Breaking the ceasefire in Gaza. Not making good progress with Russia/ukraine so he lost 2-3 points.

Republican presidents typically cut taxes for the wealthiest, increase defence spending and make minor cuts to spending elsewhere. How does that make sense?

It’s just a reaction of America in late stage capitalism as all its markets move to China and he’s trying to rebuild a sinking ship!

But putting tarriffs on the foreign businesses that provide the raw materials that allow American businesses to proceed to the next stage of construction doesn't do anything to benefit that - all it is is a move that appears 'strongman' because Trump doesn't understand what a tarriff is or how it works, apart from that it sounds like punishing 'America's enemy'...

Sir Keir Starmer’s attempts to strike a free trade deal with the US are at risk over a free speech row.

In a highly unusual step on Sunday night, the US state department issued a statement saying it was “concerned about freedom of expression in the United Kingdom” in relation to the case of an anti-abortion campaigner.

It said it was “monitoring” the case of Livia Tossici-Bolt, who was prosecuted for holding a sign near a Bournemouth abortion clinic reading: “Here to talk if you want.”

A verdict in the case is due on Friday.

The state department, responsible for US foreign policy, would not usually comment on the domestic policies of another country.

A wise decision. Elon cannot understand things like social security. I think DOGE seemed like a nice idea but he was just cutting useful departments and calling it stopping fraud and acting like it was saving money. Deep red states were having thousands of people losing jobs and Elon was boasting about it like an excited child. He is much better suited to his own sphere

Him potentially stepping back, I doubt, and if he does it's not his decision beyond flighty boredom (or possibly the businesses he's supposed to be running giving him ultimatums); that article talks about Trump looking to move him out now he sees how toxic he is. Everything he has touched in the Trump government has been a disaster, over and above how destructive the whole administration has been.
