Listening to Christmas songs NOW is a very Anglo-American thing, hence they are not a threat to DWAS at #1 on GLOBAL Spotify until the Christmas week I suppose (unless DWAS loses a lots of steam for some reason).

And of course something else non-Christmas related might explode.

I don’t know why as you’d think Thanksgiving would hold it off in America!

Spotify and Apple shouldn’t be allowed to promote it so much at this time, it should be held off until 1st dec.

Really great first day - album almost entirely top 50. Did the day 1 update as a number of tracks were missed from the spotify update.

Day 2

22. "The Emptiness Machine" 204,900

40. "Heavy Is the Crown" 155,335

51. "Two Faced" 138,611

80. "Over Each Other" 110,969

Honestly not too big of a drop. Likely a little smaller of a drop when taking into account "Good Things Go" is not top 200 now. The places dropped look fairly big due to Christmas taking over as well. Will likely see another notable fall in tomorrow's update for Sunday but hopefully we'll see some of the tracks rebounding come Monday!

The album is still top 100 on Apple Music despite the Christmas takeover:

19. "The Emptiness Machine"

32. "Heavy Is the Crown"

36. "Two Faced"

38. "Cut the Bridge"

39. "Over Each Other"

54. "Casualty"

56. "Overflow"

63. "Stained"

64. "From Zero (Intro)"

72. "IGYEIH"

73. "Good Things Go"

Unfortunately Kworb's youtube chart hasn't been working for over a week now so can't tell what UK-boost the songs may have gotten there ("The Emptiness Machine" & "Heavy Is the Crown" both saw big boosts Friday/Saturday on youtube globally although dropping away a bit now).

In intrigued what their sales will be, no idea what to expect, wouldn't be surprised with anything between 30k and 70k

Is Ed/Elton on SCR?

Won't be this year as it's 3 years old

It's a tricky one - if it gets a 25% increase on the same week it did last year that would technically be before its three years old, so it would get reset for that week. Whether the OCC would then keep it on SCR over Christmas or shunt it straight back to ACR the week after, who knows.
Was it released like on the 6th Dec?

3rd December - but last year it got reset on the chart released 01/12, which would be 29/11 this year. We'll see what they do.

Yeh will be interesting, I can def imagine Ed asking for a reset albeit he has another song this year though hard to know whether it’ll take off or not.

Knew it was the first week of Dec as Taylor released CTF late the year it was released too!

Songs by British artists are losing out significantly compared to last year with the exception of the Pogues (for obvious reasons) and Step into Christmas (for which I'm not sure why). Shame Wizzard didn't show up given I think they have better playlisting this year than last.

Edited by Maestro

Sam down to #20, Lola Young-Messy finally top 200

The Americanised playlists are annoying because people so many people are so passive with the way they listen that it forces the UK charts to reflect this playlist.

Why can't Spotify push a separate playlist on the algorithm as the lead one for the UK? They have Christmas Crackers but it's quite far down the search when I type 'Christmas'.

Apart from Wham! there are no British artists in the first 20 songs on the dominant Christmas Hits playlist so we end up with the situation above and the actual classics known in this country being slowly pushed out.

It's also a language thing. You share the language with the US so that's unfortunate. On our playlist here there are plenty of local Christmas hits in local language.

Edited by Sour Candy

just checked Denmark and it's crazy, there are like 30 Xmas hits in the top 100

including Mariah and Wham both top 5

but the good thing is that half of the xmas hits are local songs in Danish

have to say I much prefer the situation in Southern Europe

with Spain still having Zero Xmas hits

and both Italy and France only having Mariah and Wham who re-entered yesterday in the low part of the top 200 :)
